New album by Ringo, titled Postcards from Paradise

I kind of like "Spooky Weirdness"; shows them just having a good time messing around in the studio, and it's brief, just long enough to be a cute little postscript to the album.
Exactly! Plus you have other 10 songs. Unlike the rip-off album Ringo 2012 where you get 28 minutes of music including covers and re recordings lol
I actually like Ringo 2012. Granted, it's not as good as Y Not and Poscards... but it has some good stuff. I really enjoy Anthem and Rock Island Line. I love Wings. It's actually one of my favourite Ringo songs. I consider In Liverpool to be an incredibly memorable song. I enjoy Wonderful, I like Slow Down. As short as it may be, I still like Think It Over. I somewhat enjoy Step Lightly and Samba is OK. In my eyes, 2012 was rather short, but still a winner in my books. I judge music by a few things: 1. Can I have a good time listening to it? Will I get bored of it should I replay it? 2. Can I enjoy singing along to it? I will admit I am a bit of a singer when I'm listening to music. 3. Can I play the drums to it and have a fun time? Cause I am a drummer, a drummer that considers Ringo to be... The Greatest. Normally if a song fulfills 2 out of 3 of those areas, I know it's gonna be good. Hence why I'm pretty lenient on the 4th, Old Wave, and 2012, and why I really really enjoy Postcards, and Y Not, and Choose Love, and the Ringo album, and why I really really dislike Rotogravure. Childhood issues aside (Hey Baby), that album just doesn't really do anything for me, apart from a song or two. That's how I work, and probably why my taste in Ringo's music differs to you

My judgement is a bit different... If I hear it and think it's crap, it's crap. If I think it's good, it's good. lol

That's opinion. Can't argue with that Who knows, maybe if I wasn't so bitter towards Hey Baby, my opinion may be different Really, the only time I can argue against opinion is it's for something brainless and illogical... like Ringo being the worst drummer in the history of music. Or him being absolutely talentless. Or him being the luckiest guy in the world. Or any other anti-Ringo comment you can think of

What about this one: "Yoko's singing is the worst crap a human ear can endure"

That's a myth. Like the CIA blowing up the towers on 9/11.

Or Ringo haters having brains. There's a major myth But in all seriousness, it's these kind of myths that irk the hell out of me. I'll bet the first to say that I prefer Ringo's solo career to his time in the Beatles. He was only in the band for 8 years and sang on, off the top of my head, 11 songs. Compare to that 45 years and a zillion solo songs... But it's these stupid Beatles myths that irritate the hell out of me. Ringo being lucky and talentless, John saying Ringo's not the best. Yoko breaking the band up, Paul dying in 1966... It really gets to me sometimes

Yes, the older I get, the less patience I have with morons who mention these myths.

That's another nasty myth.
dcshark:
Here's one that is always attributed to John but he never said this: "Ringo isn't the best drummer in the world. He isn't even the best drummer in the Beatles" It was said British comedian Jasper Carrott in 1983. Thanks to some research by Mark Lewisohn. See interview and article below http://articles.latimes.com/2013/dec/02/entertainment/la-et-ms-beatles-ringo-starr-biography-tune-in-mark-lewisohn-20131202 But he did say: Ringo's a damn good drummer, He was always a good drummer. Anthology P.81

That Jasper Carrott quote irks the hell out of me. I'm sure it was meant to be taken as a joke by Jasper... but everyone uses it against Rich these days because they think it's a legit John quote. Calling Ringo not the best drummer in the world is one thing, but saying he was the worst, and unimportant, and didn't affect the Beatles, or whatever else they say, is another thing. Thankfully, there's a difference between opinion, and ignorance

I wouldn't say that Ringo is the best or worst drummer in the world. It is too general. With so many different genres requiring different techniques to be a drummer. What I know is Ringo was perfect in The Beatles. He was drummer on songs that are so nailed that it is almost impossible for others to create cover versions. Perhaps Ringo was not on par with the others as a songwriter ("Octopus's Garden" is on par with anything), but he was one of four musicians who also made The Beatles a band unmatched. As a solo artist, I think Ringo on drums is less prominent. In The Beatles, he was a drummer who performed a solo cabaret number once in a while. As sloartist he is also a leadsinger, songwriter and artist, on the entire album. If you like "Boys" and "Don't Pass By"... with The Beatles, should one find something to like on Ringo's solo albums I think. I do at least... If some think it is too much, that one song performed by Ringo per Beatles album is enough or just right, is another thing.

Yeah, I'll admit Ringo isn't the strongest songwriter out there... But best or worst... He's certainly my favourite drummer out there

I consider Ringo my favorite drummer as well. What he did with The Beatles is enough to be considered as a favorite on my stereo, although the songs he sings also contributes to the bands fantastic records. Otherwise I appreciate John Bonham, Keith Moon, Billy Cobham, Phil Collins ... There's plenty of good drummers and it's fun to listen to someone who is good at drumming, but the Beatles is my favorite band, their combination of two guitars, bass and DRUMS.

I'm like Ringo quite a bit. I'm not too big on fancy and wild drum solos. I care more about playing and creating drum pieces that fit the song That's the problems with drummers today. They seem to be famed for being fluent and wild, and able to hold a drum solo. That's not the most important part of being a drummer. The most important part of being a drummer is being a contributor
-
Well, I have to admit that I also enjoy a bit of virtuosity once in a while. I'm quite fond of progressive rock for example and have many records with bands like Yes, Gentle Giant, King Crimson, Soft Machine... But the way I see it, is that the more technical drummer who was maybe perfect for the music of Yes, would not necessarily be perfect for The Beatles. Ringo contribute exactly the drum pattern the song needs. It's something that he is great at, to my ears. The Beatles had great songwriters. But I can't hear him 'jam' with Miles Davis. It requires other things from a drummer.

Yeah... everytime I see a Ringo hater, I tell them: Hey, you take out Ringo, and get any other drummer to play the drum portions of Come Together, or What You're Doing, or Here Comes The Sun, or Tomorrow Never Knows, or She Loves You... Do they sound as good? Of course not There's a good chance that the Beatles wouldn't have been as popular without Richie. Without him, they probably would have been just a generic 60s Pop band

I can understand that you don't care about Ringo's drumming if you don't care about The Beatles. If you think they're overrated. There'e plenty of good drummers out there, in rock, in jazz... I've had plenty of friends who don't hear what I hear when we sit and listen to The Beatles. I'm on a trip to the moon, and they are sort of left behind. It's okay with me. It's when I hear people embrace The Beatles and at the same time call Ringo a bad drummer, that I'm ?????

Oh yeah, I know the feeling. "The Beatles were amazing... Well, all of them but Ringo. He sucked. He contributed nothing. He was just lucky!"
