When I was at the Abbey Road crosswalk in London a couple of weeks ago, what surprised me was all the kids that were there. To see where The Beatles recorded and to take pictures in the crosswalk and in front of the studio.
Reading these TV references, it's interesting to realize that The Beatles have now become part of our collective DNA. I remember in the 80's it wasn't so. Or at least it wasn't pervasive like now. Everyone has a Beatles reference it seems. Favorite Beatle, favorite period of the band, favorite album, favorite song. It's like the fade out at the end of Strawberry Fields Forever. It almost goes out completely in the 80's, then it faded back up to full volume again. Only now it seems that the volume is even higher, more than 50 years later!

I first saw The Beatles on television on January 3rd, 1964 on The Jack Paar Show where he showed
a clip of them playing. I told a friend of mine that they combed their hair straight down, and he thought I meant that they combed it straight out. We watched them together on Ed Sullivan a month later and we laughed when he realized what I really meant.

DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow had a lengthy Beatles-related intro to their season premiere. (In the show they time travel all the time to fix anomalies that threaten to mess up history) Starts off like an old newsreel - THE BRITISH INVASION! Announcer says “The newest musical sensation to cross the Atlantic - a group of young men from Liverpool who call themselves The Beatles have just arrived at JFK! (Actual footage of The Beatles getting off the plane is shown. All this is in b&w.) The Beatles, that’s BeAt because that’s the way they keep the beat!” Changes to color and one of the females on the show says to the other, “If you had to sleep with one, which one would it be?” She says, “How can you even tell them apart?” Ray (Brandon Routh who once played Superman in a couple movies) who has his hair combed in a Beatle style and is taking pics of them, says “Well, Paul’s the cute one, George is the quiet one. Was Ringo...?” He is interrupted by Mick who says “I never met an Englishman I haven’t wanted to punch in the face!” Nate says “Relax Mick! If it wasn’t for the British Invasion, there’d be no Rolling Stones, no Led Zep, no Black Sabbath!” Mick says “No Black Sabbath?! Well then we need to protect these mopheads from whatever’s screwing up history!”
On The Kids Are Alright, the main character, a boy about 10 or 11, is reading a poem he won 1st place for (he actually stole it from his mom’s high school assignment he found, but she had stolen it out of a book from some guy who wrote it in 1914) As he’s reading it, his older self is narrating “JFK, The Beatles, Me. So few had the charisma to mesmerize the masses!” (The show is done like The Wonder Years, but takes place in about 1972)
Saw an ad for the upcoming movie Instant Family starring Mark Wahlberg. The song playing is George’s What Is Life.
