The Beatles Mentioned on TV

A friend told me this one: On The Resident last night, some hot shot doctor says to his partner, “I may be a Lennon but you ain’t no McCartney!”

The Goldbergs 5/2/18 (the show takes place in the mid-‘80s)
Erica tries to form an all-girl band, called The Tangles, their “original” song sounds just like I Love Rock and Roll with slightly different lyrics, and they all dress like Madonna. They play CBGB in NYC and bomb. Erica’s boyfriend tries to cheer her up by saying “It’s all about the sacrifice, just ask The Beatles!”

Sun. May 6th, on Timeless. They go back in time to Mar. 30, 1981, the day John Hinkley tried to assassinate President Reagan. They show Hinkley writing a letter to Jodie Foster, who he was obsessed with. The camera pans over to show he has the book The Catcher In The Rye and a button that says John Lennon.
This is weird. Besides the fact both he and John Lennon’s killer both were obsessed with that book, they looked a lot alike and were born in the same month and year!
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Hinckley_Jr.
John’s murder was also briefly mentioned on another show the other day, maybe Blindspot.

Colony May 9th
This guy is alone at “Route 8” outpost speaking to Dispatch on ham radio. She says, “The psychological health of our drivers is important.” He says, “I’m fine.” She: “I’m spinning some records over here. Any requests, Route 8?” He: “I like the blues.” She: “A bit on the nose, don’t you think? How about Simon & Garfunkel?” He: “Sound Of Silence or Bridge Over Troubled Waters?” She: “Always with the jokes!” He: “Isn’t that what they usually say?” She:”Oh, yeah, what do they usually say?” He: “Right now there’s nobody to say anything.” She: “Some guys might like that, you know. Nobody around to bother them.” He: “I learned to be careful what I wish for.” She: “So then, maybe it should be Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.”

Modern Family May 16th:
The daughter Alex says: People are out there discovering planets and I’m in here doing Buzz Feed quizzes, like “If I were to be a Beatle, who would I be?” I’d be Ringo! Who cares, Manny?

Did anyone see The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon last night (May 17)? Tina Fey was a guest and she and Jimmy played a game where you had to guess what was going on behind you. Jimmy gave clues, and Tina had to guess. They showed actors playing The Beatles doing Hula hoops. Ringo's hoop kept dropping and he had to twirl it on his hand. Maybe someone can find a video clip to post, lol.

Thanks so much for finding that!

On Supernatural May 10th episode, Dean says: Sam, go back there and see what “Helter Skelter’s” saying to the damn kid.
(“Helter Skelter” is Lucifer and “the kid” is Lucifer’s son whose mother was human.)
The show lives up to its title - it is pretty weird and wild, but it just finished its 13th season yesterday and was renewed for a 14th! And, yes, I have seen all 13 seasons (don’t judge me!)

On Comedy Knockout, 3 comedians vie to be the funniest and win. The host says, “What do these celebrity photos tell you?” They put up a photo of Rihanna making an odd face. The first comic says, “When you realize ‘Diamonds in the sky’ is a Beatles lyric and you owe Paul McCartney $8 million.”
On another part of the show 5 people from the audience stand up and the comedians have to guess which one has done some crazy thing or another (like faking that they had diabetes to get through airport security faster) They say funny stuff about the people. One spots this Asian chick and says “#4, I’m still mad at you about John Lennon!”

Tonight on Jeopardy, the final answer was: In 1812 the U.S. endured a literal one of these 2-word terms and beginning in 1964 enjoyed a musical one.
The question of course was What is the British Invasion? I knew that was it right away. One of the contestants had no idea!!

7/25/18 On Ozzy & Jack’s World Detour:
They are visiting this place and as a surprise for Ozzy, this group of young kids around 8-12, called the Louisville Leopards, play his song Crazy Train using xylophones, drums and other percussion instruments. After, they let the kids ask him questions. One boy says “When did you start playing music?” Ozzy: “When I first heard a band called The Beatles. That changed my whole life.” The teacher asks “Have you heard of that band?” and the boy says “Yes, I have” then asks “What about the Beatles inspired you to play music?” Ozzy says “I was walking down the road with a transistor radio and the song She Loves You came on and I though ‘What is this?’ I was going crazy! There will never be another band like The Beatles.”
Later, he and Jack are talking about the experience and Ozzy says “For them to remember their parts and play without being nervous! If I was them and The Beatles were in the audience, I’d have freaked out!”
Also, on James Corden’s show, David Spade was on and was talking about being in England or somewhere with Chris Farley promoting the movie Tommy Boy. Neither were very famous at the time and hadn’t been on Saturday Night Live very long, but David said they went out disguised “Like we were The Beatles or something!”

On the most recent episode of Beat Shazam, the snippet of song they had to guess under the category Movie Themes was Live and Let Die. The guys who eventually won got it correct. They won over $191,000. They took the money and did not try to double it on the last song which was from the ‘60s and they did not know it. (They were only 19 years old)
Also, on the show In Search Of, they were in Liverpool talking about how besides being known as the home of the Beatles, it is known for “time slips” when people walk down Bond St. between the Liverpool Central Underground Station and St. Luke’s Church. What people have said happens is they suddenly find themselves in the past and see old cars, people dressed like in the past, etc. and then they fairly quickly come back to the present. Supposedly this has something to do with low frequency inaudible sounds. They showed St. Luke’s underground crypt which looked spooky!
-
Last night on Salvation, at the end of the show they played George’s What Is Life! My favorite solo song of his!
-
Real Time With Bill Maher of course jumped on the part of the GQ interview where Paul talked about the masturbation session with John and friends. He had one question: Was this when they wrote Come Together?
-
Was watching the movie Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 on Netflix. Main character played by Chris Pratt has a Sony Walkman cassette player. He one song he plays is My Sweet Lord.
-
Last night on Elementary, a cop is being interviewed/“grilled” by the FBI. He says:
”I think these guys have everything but my belt size and my favorite Beatle. It’s George, by the way.”

Modern Family
Mitchell, Manny and Luke are playing pool. Phil comes up and says “Well, well, well, if it isn’t John, Paul and George! Anyone need a Ringo?” Jay grabs a pool cue and says “Actually, we can get by without a little help from you, friend!”
