Time Machine to see The Beatles
-
Scarlett - welcome to the wonderful world of wanting to know all there is about Paul and the Beatles. Warning - once you start it'll be hard to stop. I was talking with a friend of mine about why people still love the Beatles so much and one thing (I think) is that after you love the music there are the stories and personalities that pull you in deeper and leave you wanting more more more! It's so much fun to learn about the back stories, the personalities, and all the fun trivia. Back to topic- Carnival of Light was an avant garde experiment that has never been released and that has been torturing some die hard fans for years. http://www.beatlesbible.com/songs/carnival-of-light/

Sorry, I meant to respond to Oobu earlier about "the girlfriends". I knew about Jane and that was it. Before you think to yourself, "WHAT?????!!!!! And you call yourself a Paul fan???!!!" you must keep in mind that on the great continuum of Paul Fans (levels one through ten) I am mid-way between John Q Public who recognizes Beatles songs and enjoys them (level one) and hard-core Paul/Beatles fans that are on this site (level ten). I have always loved Paul, always loved The Beatles, know and love their greatest hits and even some other songs too but in no way can I compare myself to you guys on here. I bow in awe of your knowledge and loyalty. You do realize though that most average folk would consider even being on this forum as obsessive (and I'll include myself in that group of obsessives right now)? The average person not on this forum pictures each of us living in an underground labyrinth of rooms covered with old Beatles posters, playing 45's on an ancient turntable, dissecting lines from obscure Beatles songs and not having any human relationships except those with fellow FabFour-lovers. I could start a thread about this very subject....the rest of the world versus us. I mean, do any of you know people who think this is all a bit weird? And I'm with you guys so I am just as "guilty" of not being "normal" for lack of a better word. You know what makes me think this isn't so bad though? People's obsession with sports. They spend millions of dollars watching grown men chase some kind of leather object around a field and these men may not have ever stepped foot into their hometowns until they put that uniform on. There are all kinds of not being normal is what I'm saying. But I digress. As I usually do. Hey, how about that time machine! (Bringing us back on topic!) Tell me about this Carnival of Light you speak of!
Believe it or not, most of us actually have jobs and interact with other people. I'm sure there are a few "living in their parents basement" types though. And you still didn't answer if you've heard of Francie Schwartz! I will assume you haven't. She was a girl from NYC who walked into Apple on Savile Row in London one summer day in 1968 and one Paul McCartney happened to be in the reception area. She was hawking a screenplay she had written. Well, one thing led to another and she ended up living with Paul for about 4-6 weeks. She is seen on the left (sitting on the floor) in the video of him doing Blackbird:
She also tagged along on the Beatles "Mad Day Out" photo shoot on July 28, 1968: She wrote a book about her various men, including Paul, called Body Count: http://www.amazon.com/dp/087932029X/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=1CFSUDM1663HP&coliid=I1QY64DOXBVW1Y He finally got tired of her and threw her out, called Linda to come visit, and the rest is history! There's also a book out written by one of the Apple Scruffs, Carol Bedford: http://www.amazon.com/dp/0713713348/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=1CFSUDM1663HP&coliid=I30724PXKP5P5J -
I'm sorry, Nancy, I thought I was answering by saying I only knew about Jane and that was it. I was thinking you meant Francie was a girlfriend. They all seem like girlfriends to me. Any woman that was with him for more than an hour = girlfriend!

Yeah, Francie was his "girlfriend" for that short period of time. What kills me is that he had just had his "naughty weekend," as Paul called it, with Linda in late June of 1968. Then he goes crazy after Jane leaves right after that and shall we say "sows his wild oats" with Francie and many of the groupies too. After Francie left, he spent a few days with Maggie in early Sept. before Linda arrived in mid-Sept. Her birthday was Sept. 24th and Paul got the idea for Birthday from that. It was recorded Sept. 18th.

You know, I'm beginning to think it's a miracle there aren't hundreds of mini-Pauls running around. Now I can understand why there weren't any Beatles songs called "Restraint", "Chastity" or "Abstinence".

LOL! Scarlett - It has taken me years to accumulate everything I know about the fabs and Paul and I am still learning a lot - I do not know everything by a long shot. But it's fun to keep learning. I read books here and there, look up info, read interviews, look up YouTube clips, read things on this forum, etc. This is years in the making for me. I am definitely not an obsessive
-
Dapp, I'm glad to hear you're not obsessive.....yet! As for me, I've been here a month with not ever having listened to the entire Abbey Road album before maybe two weeks ago. Now I know the exact micro-second to abruptly stop singing "I Want You (She's So Heavy)" and I never really paid much attention to that song before I arrived here. I'm traveling down a slippery slope, just on the cusp of crossing to the other side. If by next week I know what kind of breakfast cereal Paul likes best, call the National Guard or something.

I think they knew about condoms, and later birth control pills. It was Paul (and Pete) who got arrested in Hamburg for lighting up a condom on the concrete wall of the Bambi Kino! Funnily enough, the Beatles only seemed to get women pregnant that they probably wanted to marry anyway. Cyn, Yoko (2 miscarriages before they were married), Dot (well she's the exception as they were so young-16 & 17-and she had a miscarriage. Paul broke up with her when he was 20 since he didn't want to get married, he said), Linda, Olivia, Maureen. I have over 100 books about the Beatles, but if you want to know everything from before the Beatles were born to the end of 1962, buy Mark Lewisohn's book Tune In. Nobody else needs to write another book about the Beatles! I can't wait for part 2 to come out!

There are. Australia has heaps of them, I'm sure...and mini John's, George's and Ringo's... The Australian tour of 1964...pre pill...

I doubt many of us are "obsessed" (well...) but the Boys have been around for more than 50 YEARS...so some of us went along for the ride.

Well...considering that this is a Macca board, I joined because of Paul.

Thought I had a "scoop" there!

I'd like to have been there when "All You Need Is Love" was broadcast all over the earth to 100's of millions of people using our new telecommunications satellite technology.

I agree, that was my answer too! Must have been a tremendous buzz!

Indeed! I just found your post! "I think it would be the "All You Need Is Love" broadcast. Big production, lots of other big names, positive message. Maybe I could hold one of those signs! Had to be a pretty loose and fun atmosphere. I'm kind of introverted, so hanging out with them alone would probably be too daunting, and I wouldn't know what to say!" I actually saw the original broadcast at the time on television. It was quite the news item. It was a very defining and synchronistic moment in human history for The Beatles to have made that particular song and for the technology to broadcast it to people all over the earth...to have 'come together' then. It was meant to be.

I think another great moment would have been that first press conference after they arrived in America. To see these skeptical, or even hostile, reporters fall under their spell would have been priceless!

I joined because of Paul too, but I was a Beatles fan way before I was a Paul fan.
