What's Your All-Time Favorite Beatles Song And Why?

If I Fell ...is one of my other favorite beatle songs...that is also...my favorite beatle song...if that makes any sense

Didn't know where else to put this so sorry if it's the wrong spot. They just played this on our Breakfast with the Beatles & it is a very quirky version of It Won't Be Long...take a listen. Hey Jude - because of the positive lyrics, the amazing melody, and the life the song has been living for so so many years on so so many concerts - i can hardly imagine a crowd being both collectively and individually happier than during Paul's live performances of Hey Jude.

Stipulating that, of course, this is completely impossible and that there is no "best" Beatles song, the one that has always been magic for me is "Let It Be." From the very opening chords, it just gives me shivers. FYI, to my ears the definitive version is the Glyn Johns mix that was released as a single, not the Spectorized album version. The version on Let It Be Naked is a close second.
I thought the single mix was done by Sir George?

Forgot to say! .... Probably I Feel Fine, or Day Tripper. The playing and singing are just particularly great on these

My understanding -- which may be imperfect -- is that while Sir George is credited as producer, this and most of what was at one point going to be an album called "Get Back" was mostly assembled and mixed by Glyn Johns. Then, of course, Phil Spector was brought in and pi**ed all over the album version of Let It Be and The Long and Winding Road. If any obsessive fan out there can clarify the details, please do! But my point is that the original single release will always be the definitive version in my eyes, though Spector's abuse of the album version was relatively mild compared to what he did to TLAWR.

Spector may have p*ssed all over the album Let It Be, but the tapes were given to George Martin first who said basically this is a bunch of cr*p-- I can't do anything with it. Lennon and Harrison looked up Spector who at least (by hook or by crook) made an album out of the tapes. I think what he did to All Things Must Pass (the album) was much worse.

All a matter of taste. I actually don't mind the Spector production on ATMP. It feels more like something the artist wanted, rather than something imposed after the fact. I vividly remember first hearing The Long and Winding Road when Let It Be first came out and thinking, "this somehow doesn't sound like a Beatles record." It wasn't till some time later that I learned the story, but it just sounded off to my 14-year-old ears from the very first listening. But we seem to have wandered off topic...

I was aware that Johns did the original mixing for what was the original get back album. I've got the 1st and 2nd mixes in the house. The version that was released as a single is certainly different to the version on the Glyn Johns mixes . It is more polished, and has a different guitar solo from both the John's and Spector mixes. I'm pretty sure that it's George Martin that's responsible for that. Sorry for going off in a tangent - I just find it quite interesting

Maybe Rocky Raccoon for originality, at this moment. Lots of songs in the running, for me, but not Let It Be, Penny Lane, Eleanor Rigby, nor Yesterday.
-
Favourite Beatles song ? An obviously extremely diffficult decision. I could probably put a case for about 20 or 30 but if pushed I would go with Let It Be. Close contenders in no order : While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Penny Lane, The Ballad of John and Yoko, Hey Jude, Norwegian Wood, Yesterday, And I Love Her.

I Should Have Known Better. (For today anyway ) I love the harmonies. It sounds fantastic, and for me one of the best tracks from this period.
-
...hey, hey, hey...and I DO, (harmonica: da, da, da, da, da, da,) Yeah, I love that one, too, dcshark. Did I say "Hey Jude" wasn't one of my favs? Naaaaaa. It is. I have so many favs .... it is hard to keep up with them.

"My other favorite Beatle song!" is a common phrase used around here when just about any Beatle song comes on. It may be a little complex for some to understand.
