Lennon & Elton at MSG 1974

Anyone attend this Thanksgiving night concert in 1974? quite the historic night there, Lennon's last public concert appearance, correct? I'd like to have seen how crazy that was when John came on
Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds I Saw Her Standing There http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i290/singmyheart_photos/John Lennon/The Lost Weekend/lennonelton6.jpg[/img] [img]http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i290/singmyheart_photos/John Lennon/The Lost Weekend/m34.jpg"/> at the last song John quipped 'we're going to do one more so I can get out of here and go be sick'.. They did a good version of Whatever Gets You Through The Night, a jammy Lucy, and a fun nod to Macka with the rockin I Saw Her Standing There. Elton talked about the concert in his 1976 interview with Playboy magazine: "I was so knocked out by Lennon - everyone was just standing there in amazement. I was halfway through Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me - which I always do with my eyes closed - and suddenly there were all these lighted matches in the audience. Usually they do that at the end, when you come back for an encore, but this time it was right in the middle of the song. And I just started to cry...The rush I felt came from the audience - and from Lennon, who really stole the show. It was magic." looks red in the pics? that's cool, you think it's velvet
: I could see that out of Elton

Thanks for the youtube videos. I've always wanted to see this concert and never have. Now I've seen some of it. Is it availbable on DVD?
There is no video of this, it would be the rarest of the rare. But alas it is audio only. You can buy the record, it's a collectible now. The cover is shown on the Lucy clip.

Was this concert or the bits with John performing with Elton ever filmed?

I don't think there's any video out there.. kind of amazing. but there were quite a few folks with cameras I'm seeing, and a few of them have taken to the web! here's another link I found with a few cool shots from that night. Sort of cool story by the poster, allegedly they had seats right next Yoko and she tipped him off that John would be making an appearance. http://www.bobleafe.com/layout/Results.tpl?cart=12264178229133&artist=Elton%20John&startat=1 this guy copyrighted the photo's which is the only reason they're not up and on here right now

Here's a clip of just Elton performing I Saw Her Standing There at the Hammersmith Apollo in London. Christmas eve, 1974. no Lennon but what the hell
and this one is about as close as I've gotten to video of the Lennon/Elton concert. the nights verson of Whatever Gets You Through the Night playing to a pretty cool slide show.I love this version.. Elton gets it going. really shows how well put together that song is. the harder the performer can rock it, the better it will be. Go EJ

I wonder if this makes John the first ex-Beatle to sing Beatles songs post Beatles. Also something I have long wondered.Elton was supposed to be John's good friend(John'swords ot Phil Spector) then why after John's death we never heard anything from Elton to Yoko? Or Yoko to Elton. The media never ever pressed this. Did whats her name have anything to do with this?

I think I remember reports of Elton visiting Yoko after John's death. Elton John did write a really nice tribute to John Lennon called Empty Garden.

No, George performed Beatles songs at the Concert Of Bangladesh in '71 as well as on his tour in '74.

..and I stand corrected, this was not John's last public appearance.. he did the Lew Grade thing in 1975. I love that I Saw Her Standing There. would have liked to seen John singing that

I've got these songs as bonus tracks on an Elton John single "Made in England" from 1995. Nice limited edition CD in a cardboard sleeve. It has this picture from the first page of this thread inside the CD sleeve in black and white:
Does anyone know if this was the only time these songs were officially released or whether they appeared on one of Elton's albums sometime?

Think he did Imagine with an acoustic guitar at the Lew Grade event? Is that right?

Yes, he did. It's on the Lennon Legend DVD. I think that was in 1975.

I'm going to have to keep an eye out for that Made In England single! that would be sweet to have
I posted this someplace before but it?s a cool summary of that event. What a crazy band he was playing with! http://tittenhurstlennon.blogspot.com/2009/08/john-lennon-imagine-live.htmlIn that Salute to Lew Grade he played Slippin? and Slidin?, Stand By Me (which I don?t think aired), and Imagine. Here?s the vid to Slippin? and Slidin?! awesome version IMO, a sweet intensity to it:

Thanks for posting that Kapoo. Great version, I really enjoyed that, although I'm not sure about John's jump suit!
Such a shame he never got to play live again after this. Here's the Elton John CD-single of "Made In England" that I've got with the MSG tracks on:
According to wiki, it made no.18 in the UK and no.52 in the US, although I'm not sure if the same bonus tracks appeared on the release in every country or not. One of the most treasured items in my CD collection that one.
