Sgt. Pepper re-issue
-
Rumor that "Penny Lane" and "Strawberry Fields Forever", originally planned to be on Sgt. Pepper, but issued as a single instead, will be included in the 50th anniversary re-issue. http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/two-iconic-beatles-songs-finally-9970665 http://bestclassicbands.com/sgt-pepper-reissue-2017-3-6-17/

There should be no changes to Sgt Peppers. I would suggest a 3 disc set as follows: Disc 1 mono/stereo versions Disc 2 outtakes/alternative mixes from the recording sessions Disc 3 DVD with the George Martin Making of Sgt Peppers documentary and any other relevant videos. Plus a booklet with lyrics and production information etc. Strawberry Fields/Penny Lane should not be included as they were not on Sgt Peppers and are now a part of the MMT album.

I know it shouldn't bother me, but it does. It's Sgt. Pepper's Stephen.

I stand corrected Nancy and will attempt to not make the same mistake.

Thanks mate! (Can I call you mate? I love you Aussies! I'm a huge Hugh Jackman fan.)

This has to be more than just two non-album tracks tacked on. Perhaps in the upcoming week's we'll see what is really revealed. Apple is doing a great job delaying any sort of Let it Be movie release. But thank god for the bootleg world to satisfy that appetite. Any other band would have a Super Deluxe Edition of this album filled with outtakes and demos. I do hope this release includes the 1992 special on the making of on dvd - but again the internet world has help me obtain a great copy from a 2009 vH-1 rebroadcast. A remix would be the only curiosity I would have for this release. The 2009 stereo and mono mixes sound great already.

There should be no changes to the album. Maybe a deluxe version with the single record included as an extra. I would love to see a 50th anniversary surround sound remix.

Happy to be called mate even though I am English by birth. Have lived in Australia since 1964 (coincidentally the year The Beatles came to Australia) so definitely an Aussie.

Hugh Jackman's parents are English and immigrated to Australia where he was born in 1968 and he calls people "mate" all the time, so I thought it was both an Aussie and English thing. No?

I think you're right there. Probably one of those terms that "traveled" when people came to Australia.

Brilliant! I agree wholeheartedly with this decision. This is the way John & Paul wanted to release the album, until Mr. Epstein & the men in suits got in the way. SFF will probably end Side 1 & Penny Lane will open Side 2. I believe that was the original design.

I heard that Australians call each other "mate" because it's short for inmate. But "Penny Lane" and "Strawberry Fields Forever" are on Magical Mystery Tour.

Only the American version.

Hold the phone. Are you saying that when people in Britain buy the CD, they're getting the 6ish song EP and not the full album?

I meant the original version released in the U.K. in 1967 that was an EP. Today they can buy the remastered MMT which is really the American album on Capitol. I got it in 2009 with the rest of the (British/Parlophone) CDs.

MMT was available in Britain only as a double 45rpm EP from 1967-1976 when they released the American version of the album with the singles including Strawberry Fields and Penny Lane. They kept the American MMT as one of the core catalog when they issued the CD's later. The double 45 rpm vinyl EP was reissued again as part of the MMT Deluxe Box Set with the restored film on Blu-ray and DVD in 2012.

So "Penny Lane" and "Strawberry Fields Forever" are on the Magical Mystery Tour CD. That's what I thought.

The problem is if they try and re-write history and include SFF & PL on the album, then they're going to have to knock off a couple of tracks that originally took their place !!! Lovely Rita & Good Morning Good Morning for the chop anyone?
-
I love Lovely Rita. I would gladly 'chop' Good Morning, Within You/ Without You, and especially Benefit For Mr. Kite. And to prove I'm not a total McCartney geek, never loved Fixing a Hole.

I'd be happy to get rid of Good Morning it has always been my least favourite song in the album I always skip it.
