DONOVAN on THE HOWARD STERN SHOW 02/05/2014

All right! Who wrote "sky of blue, sea of green?" And what was "Yellow Submarine" all about? I think George Harrison would've love this. There will be a test on this, later Did you ever hear the original lyrics of "Eleanor Rigby?" Original song was NOT titled "Eleanor Rigby?" : Where did the melody "sound" come from for "While My Guitar Gently Weeps?" Kinda reminds you of "The House of The Rising Sun." Not saying George stole it.

I love the story when Paul and Donovan are sharing new songs, a police officer asks who's Aston Martin is park out side, one wheel on the sidewalk and the other three on the road, and the radio left on. The cop notice Paul McCartney of the Beatles, stands at attention to Paul. The cop request if he can park the car properly and turn off the radio. Paul gave the car keys to the cop, and after that, the cop gives the keys back to Paul, salutes Paul and leaves. Donovan asks Paul, "is that's the way it is?" And Paul said, "that's the way it is."

Both songs have a similarity, but it's not the same chords and the return at the sixth bar is also different. House of the Rising Sun (Animals version): Am | C | D | F | Am | E7 | Am | E7 While My Guitar Gently Weeps: Am | C | D7 | F_M7 | Am | G | D | E7 And...House of the Rising Sun is actually a traditional folk song, not written by The Animals. In fact, the wikipedia suggests that The Animals ripped off Bob Dylan. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_House_of_the_Rising_Sun Riffing on traditional tunes in the public domain is fair game, though WMGGW may have been totally original and only coincidental given the similar tone and mood of both songs.

Love this story. Did this happen in the sixties, or more recently?

The 60s.

Good trivia questions in the OP. Can you please post the answers including the original lyrics. I believe Yesterday was originally entitled "Scrambled Eggs" according to a very old interview I heard with George Martin.

Paul & Jimmy Fallon performed an extended version of Scrambled Eggs a few years ago on TV: http://video.repubblica.it/spettacoli-e-cultura/mccartney-canta-scrambled-eggs-la-prima-versione-di-yesterday/57995/56970 In fact Jimmy included it on a comedy album.

It's funny--maybe it's the accent but I thought George Martin also said "scrambled air" in that old interview that I heard. Does Paul start by saying OK "Scambled air," then say "no, scrambled eggs, ...?" Or is it just my lousy hearing??
