Corrections: Oscar nominations will be announced Jan. 22 (so not too long to wait!) and "Bohemian Rhapsody" is now the top grossing music movie of all time, so far. Over 800 million bucks and counting box office worldwide.
Still, the Lady Gaga "A Star Is Born" remake is the better-reviewed film, although bested at the Golden Globes by "Bohemian Rhapsody." Lady Gaga did win Best Actress and Bradley Cooper Best Director at the prestigious National Board of Review in New York. Sam Elliot won Best Supporting Actor there for his performance in "A Star is Born," and I'm so glad.

Ed Sherran will come out with an "all male version of Lady Marmelade" LOL, will it be about male hookers? I guess that's not really funny...sad that anyone feels they have to resort to that...my bad

Sting will have a residency in Las Vegas...he seems a bit too serious for Vegas. Some of his songs...or maybe not (?).
-
Shania Twain will have a residency in Las Vegas.
Gwen Stefani will be a judge on The Voice again next season; Adam Levine quit. Levine is one of the producers on a new summer T.V. series featuring undiscovered songwriters in competition.

I was surprised when I happened to see some of "The Match Game" on t.v. and John and Chrissie Legend were playing that game ! Chrissie, especially, seemed she was having fun. It looked like a come down for John Legend to me, to go from playing Jesus in "Jesus Christ Superstar" on t.v. and from being a judge in the popular high-rated "The Voice" but I guess he digs being in different levels of pop culture. Experiencing different levels.
I cringe when I hear Taylor Swift's new song "Me," it sounds like an awful, horrible song, not much of a real song, to me (but I've just heard it a couple times) and I didn't like parts of the official video. (I did like that she showed her cats in it.) She used to come out with some truly catchy tunes years ago. Swift's new song about gay rights "You Can Just Calm Down" has an obnoxious title, I think and some of the lyrics are irritating. Some critics are wondering why she's jumped on that bandwagon now, after many years of silence, but at least she is now. The tune is a little bit catchy. But not nearly as good sounding as some of her early ones. I saw two gay guys online seem to like the video, especially when Katy Perry appears; so although tacky looking, it must be a pretty good vid.

Taylor Swift is a bit bottom heavy now and her thighs look almost like thunder thighs, yet she appeared on the recent VMA show in one of her costumes that's like a fancy one piece bathing suit entirely showing her thighs and legs. The camera adds at least ten pounds too. I wonder who advises her on her stage costumes.

If you listen to her latest album, a song called The Man is about how women are judged so differently than if they were a man.
So I think she wouldn't really care very much...if she was a man, no one would be commenting about "thunder thighs". I bet she doesn't care...she is one of the the most successful artists there is, and she seems happy.

I knew that wasn't cool I remarked on Swift's physical appearance as if that's really important. And not P.C., not feminist. I guess it was a reflection of Taylor Swift being irksome to me at times, in some ways. Irritating me. An action of mine sort of similar to the time a Southern guy and I went on a Net British people's chat site and started lamenting, "Help ! Help ! They's tryin' to take our 'Flag' away from us !" About the Confederate Rebel flag, and we went on and on about it, freaking out those Brits, but it was a piece of online performance art from us two 'taking the mickey' and having a laugh. It certainly wasn't cool or P.C. (This was years ago, before the most recent appropriate, true and righteous uproar and activism against racism and the Rebel flag and Confederate statues, etc.) I'm not always completely totally cool and P.C. online. Now and then, I somehow find it a bit irksome to read hippie dippie gushing love and peace talk about getting high, legalizing marijuana, being cool, spreading love, etc. But not ever about an anti-war stance. I never ever get irked by that. I always agree with that. "Only Love exists" and "Only Love is Real," etc., while hopefully ultimately true, isn't what's going on now and if we live and write as if it is then we're not trying to improve and rectify wrongs enough in "the real world" and taking action enough. I've even had fantasies sometimes about actually beating up, pounding on a certain Orange One who somehow attained worldly power and I've always been totally anti-violence.

And beat and pound on Mitch McConnell and various GOP and other powers behind the throne, as Cheeto is a puppet prez manipulated by these and Putin. I really hate Shake It Up and Bad Blood and Me and some others of Swift's and her meek weak wispy singing voice. She came right out and admitted she was politically silent in early years due to the Dixie Chicks speaking out effect on their career.
-
But Swift can make up for her smarmy ickiness when that manifests by garnering a lot of votes for the Dems. The current political climate makes me more Street Fighting Man than All You Need Is Love, although the latter is desirable as well in the big picture and in the long run

I hear you Susy, a lot of non violent people are suddenly getting smacked in the face. I grew up with a lot of Jewish kids whose parents lost all of their families and possessions and their country. I've heard all the heartaches stories and seen the tattoos on my friends parents arms. From a young age, I've understood why people bundle up their children, to leave everything behind in the darkness of the night. Trying to keep their children safe they try to find a country that will accept them. This country of immigrants always had the Statue of Liberty in the harbor, over Ellis Island. Land of the Free and Home of the Brave.
Nowadays it's reminding me more of Vietnam and Agent Orange days. My friends came home completely shell shocked and were unable to get out of a chair. They saw too many children, used as pawns, sent out with explosives on them. They used the children!
Speaking of the Confederate flag. One thing, when I went down south, I was shocked at the number of those flags EVERYWHERE! That war was over 150 years ago... I don't understand that, alot of people called me Yankee too? What is up with that? Are they waiting for the 2nd coming of General Lee? I am joking about the General Lee of course, but what is up with that in regard to race, women, white supremacy, slaves, dominance and voting rights...or what after 150 years? Is there a solution?
This anger focus, is a diversion game, it seems to me...
I'm very anti violent too, I imagine we are playing into someone's plans if we start fighting each other in the street, like the cronies said.

"I grew up with a lot of Jewish kids whose parents lost all of their families and possessions and their country."
Me too. I grew up in Israel, where taking away children and locking their parents in concentration camps would be met with universal outrage from the polulation. I am now studying in North Carolina, where few of the people around me are bothered by it. I have not, however, seen any confederate flags.

Paula Abdul has a residency now in Las Vegas and said she's tickled by that, and always wanted one. I think she's real cute. Had some man troubles which used to be written about frequently. I think she'll put on a good show as she can dance as well as sing some.

On a new "The Voice" episode a contestant sang something by Patty Griffin that was hauntingly beautiful and I looked her up on YouTube and many of Griffins' songs are, and her voice is very striking. Kelly Clarkson called Griffin her "favorite singer and songwriter." It's interesting that Griffin and Robert Plant sang together some in 2010 and lived together for awhile. Griffin's from Maine but has lived in Austin, Texas a long time and sounds Southern when she sings. Her mother was French Canadian. I read that Joe Jonas will replace Gwen Stefani as a "Voice" judge next season. That doesn't seem like an exciting selection to me, but I guess he'll turn out to be pretty good on the show. Stefani said she's leaving to complete her Las Vegas residency at Planet Hollywood there. I thought they should have another female 'cause Clarkson will then be the only female judge. I find "The Voice" and "American Idol" interest me and are fun for me. I might favor "Idol" over "The Voice," I think I do, some aspects of it. It's disappointing, though, that in recent years none of the winners have gone on to become big stars and you seldom hear about some of them.

Unless my eyes deceived me, I read somewhere that Macca said he doesn't have any Beatles albums ! Seems rather odd.

Bruce Springsteen's son has become a firefighter in Jersey City, N.J. Bruce and Pattie beamed at the swearing in ceremony, full of pride. Their daughter is an award winner with horses. I wonder what their other son does.
Loretta Lynn is planning a tour for her eighty seventh birthday year; seems like not long ago she was in hospital again with serious difficulties. This lady is a tough bird. She's in the news chatting up her plans and trotting out the old saying that 'country music is dead' bring back the genuine old style country as it has become too cr oss over and 'POP' she maintains. What say you?
Billie Eilish won big at the Grammies, five big ones...I hated the two songs I heard by her on youtube, real debbie downers, so depressing but maybe she's the antidote to Tay Tay Swift sounds, or something. But Billie and Lana del Ray music which I also hate can almost make one wish to end it all as everything is so dire (sobs}. Lana's singing makes my ears hurt. I do need to give some ear time to more Billie songs, having just subjected myself to two. Perhaps I might like a few.
The Brit 'Oscars' the Baftas show is Sunday; hoping cutie Taron Egerton wins 'cause he worked so hard and did a great job in Rocketman, methinks. But I suppose the Joker actor will take all. That movie isn't exactly feel good and not one I'd ever wish to see.

The B-52's will break up the band sometime in 2020, they announced. It will be no more. They have some fun, feel good songs which can improve one's mood and are enjoyable.
Billie Eilish sang a touching effective rendition of "Yesterday" on the Oscars show this year to go along with remembrance of show biz movie folks lost to us.
Timothy Chalumet will play a young Bob Dylan set around the time Dylan went electric, in a new movie biopic of the legend, who also is the subject of a current Broadway show that showcases his songs.

Katy Perry is pregnant; baby is due this summer ! Hers and Orlando Bloom's. She said they plan to marry in June in Japan. But the latest is there's a glitch in those plans; hope it gets straightened out ! She's 35 so it's a good thing she finally will have a child before it's too late. Before it gets harder to conceive. Russell Brand, her first hubby, was appearing in Oz when this news came out and he went into a long rambling discussion of romantic heartbreaks in his life, on stage. After Katy, he did get hitched again in 2017 and has at least one kid.

I'm so happy for Katy Perry. What a beautiful way to announce it to the world! So wonderful, loved all her flowers too!

Elton John is working on a surprising new musical about evangelist Tammy Faye Bakker, has been co-writing songs for it with Jake Shears of Scissors Sisters for eight years, off and on. Elton revealed he chose its subject because Tammy Faye was appreciative of her many gay fans and didn't express homophobia, unlike some evangelists. My sister and I think a plumper Kristin Chenowith would make a good over the top Tammy. Jessica Chastain was reported set to play Tammy in an upcoming movie, but I think she'd be better playing Jessica Hahn, who had an affair with the very sleazy Jim Bakker. The preaching couple ripped off hordes of innocents financially through their t.v. program.
Phil Collins was set to reunite Genesis (no Peter Gabriel, though) for a new U.K. tour, but the pandemic has probably put an end to his plans for the time being, one would assume.
