Wanted to see Rush this time round but busy on the night they're near me,glad you had a great time
-
And now for something completely different from Rush...I went to the 2013 MPT Sprng Doo Wop Festival yesterday! I took my grandmother for her birthday, and eveyonethere was so concerned for me! They were all asking why I would sit through this and whatnot...it was hilarious! If you've never been to one of these, I'm sure you've seen one on TV. This was my first and probably my last. It was a fun time, but it isn't exactly a concert experience. In order of appearence it featured: The Marcels (Blue Moon), Jimmy Clanton (Venus in Blue Jeans), Kenny Vance & The Planotones, Herb Cox & The Cleftones (Heart and Soul), Percy Sledge (When a Man Loves a Woman), Gene Chandler (The Duke of Earl!) follow wth an "all star encore" The Marcels were very lively and entertaining, sounded very nice too! The house band was kinda rough though. Everyone used the house band except for Kenny Vance and Gene Chandler. Their guys were much better. Jimmy Clanton sounded just like the record too, very impressive. I enjoyed Kenny Vance' set the most because he has such an illustrious history, that he basically just painted out his life for his. Highlight of the evening was hearing him sing "Cara Mia" (I know he's not Jay Black...) Herb Cox's set was nice and VERY lively, a well knit act. Percy Sledge was by far the most engaging of the evening. He was constantly thanking the crowd for a lifetime of musicetc. and told a very cool story about being backstage in Baltimore with Otis Redding and his encouraging words and such. Then the Duke came out! Gene Chandler was hilarious yet heart-warming and a true entertainer. I enjoyed his set ver much, he was the only one to do an "encore" but he really just left the stage to change into his duke attair and hen enter he backdoor t parad through the aisles on"Duke of Earl". Theall-star thing was nice, but it was A LOT of people on one stage and got a bit messy. Sorry that was so long- lots of bands to talk about! Immediately after the concert, my grandmother had to find a bathroom so we followed the signs and ended up down at a rather vacant looking restroom. I just waited out by the steps for her an who comes walking by...Kenny Vance! I got to tell how mch I enjoyed theset etc. and he thanked me and carried on...seemed in a hurry, maybe he was looking for a bathroom! The show was two hours, each performer only did fifteen minutes (in fame) and there was a thirty intermission halfway through.

Eric Clapton last night. Great show, and what a band! Paul Carrack was on keyboards/additional vocals, who has his own successful recording/touring career. KILLER solos from EC. I mean I know you expect it, but wow, the best live guitarist I have seen. Some songs from the set included: Hello Old Friend My Fathers Eyes Tears In Heaven Layla Lay Down Sally Badge Crossroads Sunshine of your love (with comedian Peter Kay) Cocaine Lots of blues numbers too. 9/10 would definitely go again. The camera guy did a wonderful job of getting close ups of EC's playing too.

I've seen him two or three times over the years. I've been watching the YouTube uploads of this 50th anniversary tour, and E.C. seems to be on a roll. His new track "Gotta Get Over" has grown on me big time!

Yeah I've been keeping up with the new stuff before going, and that one is one of the better ones. What a tight band though, female backup vocalists, a lap steel guy, Willie Weeks on bass. Seen some online sources saying retirement on the horizon at 70, he's 68 now so I hope to see some more in that time!
-
Eric Clapton is definitely number one on my list of artists I've never seen live. He's never come close enough! I can't afford a NYC trip for him and sincI've ben interested in him 2007-ih) he has NEVER been to the Maryland/DC area..I'devendo Philly or Atlantic City! Nothin! Glad you enjoyed t so much, this setlist seems to be spectaular and I'm sure they are playing the hell out of it!!!

Robert Plant and Beck added to the summer concert list.... Some other great stuff coming up in the Prospect Park (Brooklyn) concert series as well. Tom Petty and The Rolling Stones next week!
-
I saw Robert Plant in 2011 with the Band of Joy....it was a cool show and I'm glad I got to hear him once live since I doubt I ever will with Zeppelin...don't think I'd go back a second time though. He's the complete opposite of Paul when it comes to his show and style. But I'm sure some prefer that! I just know I'm skipping him on his visit back this summer...

Yeah, I keep holding out hope for a Zep reunion as well but it might be just as well if it doesn't happen - could you imagine how much tickets would go for? I think I'd pay whatever it takes but just the thought of shelling out four figures (most likely) to do so - yowza!! I actually saw "Planty" a few years ago, touring with Alison Krauss behind the wonderful "Raising Sand" album...perfect show. Loved hearing that material live as well as the bluegrassy takes done on Zep songs! Krauss also did a wonderful job with the Sandy Denny vocals on "The Battle of Evermore". His new band sounds quite interesting - it's sounding like it's drifting into Grateful Dead/jam band territory?! - I hope it'll be good. Certainly seems like it's music made to be best experienced outdoors so I'm happy that's in the park.
-
Yes WR, I would have loved Wonderful Tonight and maybe err, the Layla to be done on an electric guitar, but Tears In Heaven and Nobody Knows You etc are just great. Would see Robert Plant & his band if he came near, but a Zep show would be ace.

I'm pretty psyched!! I'm afraid the Eagles may not come around again so I had to get tickets! Saw Tom Petty with my concert buddy Boycie last year, so I'm going again in the States. Have always loved Jackson Brown so that was almost local, had to go... Should be great

Saw Mark Knopfler tonight and had a ball a masterclass in musicianship,Mark was fairly chatty too and the band are a credit to him so many instrument changes it was hard to keep track. Played alot of his solo stuff so that was fine by me with a smattering of Dire Straits rounded off a brilliant night. So onto the next gig in a few weeks Elvis Costello.
-
Very cool! I've never seen Mark Knopfler OR Elvis Costello...don't know if I would either. Nothing on em, and I'm sure they do fine as you say, just have THAT much of a desire.
-
i kinda want to see Bjork next month she has 3 tour days in a row here wel see what happens
