WR get out now: STONES CONTENT Last night (6th July) was the Hyde Park (first of two), never seen The Stones before and followed the hype closely regarding the 50th anniversary as I really wanted to see them and let's just say, I GOT SATISFACTION. 8:30 sharp, the boys started assembling on stage and boom, into Start Me Up, through a great set with a fantastic sound. The talented Gary Clark Jr (supported them and Clapton when I saw him last month) joined them to do 'Bitch' and Mick Taylor (his first gig with them was Hyde Park back in 69) joined in on Midnight Rambler and on the encore. Ronnie & Keith rocked the guitars, wonderful riffs, twangs, rhythms and solos throughout the show. Mick J picked up the guitar as expected on 'Miss You' and also 'Doom and Gloom'. The band were good too, the female vocalist was giving it all on 'Gimme Shelter' and a firework finish with 'Satisfaction' was a nice touch. Highlights: Keith and Ron sneaking a cigarette during band introductions. The fact that 3 songs from 'Some Girls' were played, I love that album! Especially 'Beast of Burden', didn't see that one coming. Would have loved Bill Wyman to play bass, but you can't always get what you want. Mick was in great voice and the boys in great sound, hope I can catch some more shows. FULL SETLIST: 1. START ME UP 2. IT'S ONLY ROCK AND ROLL 3. TUMBLING DICE 4. ALL DOWN THE LINE (request poll winner) 5. BEAST OF BURDEN 6. DOOM AND GLOOM 7. BITCH (with Gary Clark JR) 8. PAINT IT BLACK 9. HONKY TONK WOMEN 10. YOU GOT THE SILVER (Keith Richards on vocals) 11. BEFORE THEY MAKE ME RUN (Keith) 12. MISS YOU 13. MIDNIGHT RAMBLER (with Mick Taylor) 14. GIMME SHELTER 15. JUMPING JACK FLASH 16. SYMPATHY FOR THE DEVIL 17. BROWN SUGAR ENCORE 18. YOU CAN'T ALWAYS GET WHAT YOU WANT 19. (I CAN'T GET NO) SATISFACTION

^^ Nice writeup, Jordan and sounds like you had a great time!! I did 3 of their shows on this tour and *really* enjoyed them all - once those and two Paul shows were over, I'm like: what the heck am I going to do with the rest of my year now?! Fwiw, the female vocalist touring with them is the marvelous Lisa Fischer - by all means, if you - or anyone on here - have the opportunity to see the documentary "Twenty Feet From Stardom" that's doing the rounds right now, DO SO!! She is one of the featured singers in the doc, along with Darlene Love and Merry Clayton (the vocalist who originally recorded Gimme Shelter with the Stones). Incredibly fascinating film for anyone who loves/lives for music. And since you mentioned Gary Clark, Jr., just bought tickets for his show at the "world famous" Apollo Theater here in NYC in November!! I've seen him w/ the Stones and at the Clapton Crossroads Festival but this'll be a solo show and what a perfect venue for him - can't wait.

Just had a great time with Sir Paul in DC (22nd row center at start, and ended up approx 10th row during the second encore as people in front were leaving)! Later this week will be my 20+ time seeing Ben Folds, along with 20+ times for Barenaked Ladies. This would have been an unbeatable double bill in 1996 -- hehehe -- but BNL will be more nostalgia than anything else since they split with Steven Page. Still to come in the summer of oldies (but goodies): Huey Lewis and the News (in Atlantic City) and then (whatever is still left of) Styx (the band that got me started playing my own music) in AC. If I have any money left, Matthew Sweet will cap off the summer in a small venue in Philly. Love. My. Summer.

Paul aboslutely KIlled it in DC!!! I could've had free tix for Huey Lewis at Harrah's but the date didn't work out...that's a really great venue if you've never been. Is Styx over at The Borgata? They usually come thought here every year...never saw them though!

Yes...Styx is at Borgata. We decided to go to that and Huey Lewis well before planning a weekend in DC w Paul. So glad I did because I need something to look forward to now that Paul is away from the east coast. Tommy Shaw (and James Young) are still with them, so it should be fun. Problem with AC shows ( I saw Ringo's all star band there in 2004ish) is many people are on comp tix, and they don't like it when you stand. Me...I enjoy live music so much more when standing!

Agreed, I got comp tix for Buddy Guy/Johnny Lang thru my grandparents at Harrah's last year. It's a pretty cool thing except it's sort of general admission so you have to beat the crowd of comp-ers to get decent seats. The Music Box Theatre at The Borgata is by far the nicest venue in Atlantic City.

Goldfrapp last night, felt ill with the heat but new album sounds pretty darn good

I've got my first of three Beach Boys (Mike Love and Bruce Johnston) concerts tomorrow. Also, Brian Wilson's tour with Al Jardine and David Marks kicks off tomorrow. If anyone has been following the feud, it recently reached a point where Mike Love said he does want to work with Brian Wilson in the studio again and Al Jardine basically said tough shit. So I can't wait to compare youtube clips etc. Sunday afternoon. I won't be seeing Brian and company this year, but I would certainly go if they came to MD/DC area. The closest show is Saturday in Atlantic City, but I wasn't about to sell my fifth row center seats for Mike & Bruce 15 minutes from my house!
-
I was very impressed with Mike and Bruce last night! A very solid show...they took an intermission (they must've gotten accustomed to it after Brian insisted on one last year). But they did 42 songs in 2 1/2 hours show. The regular hits, but a fair amount of songs I had never heard...Summer Means Fun (Bruce and Terry!)...Good To My Baby...Dance Dance Dance...California Dreamin (Mammas/Pappas)...WILD HONEY!...and an unreleased song fro mtheir upcoming Made in California 6-disc boxset next month called "Goin To The Beach" from the "Keeping The Summer Alive" sessions. It certainly was not better than last year's reunion, but it was definitely a better show than the other time I saw them (which was great too!)...and I've still got two more coming in September!

Nice one WR, will check some YT videos soon (of both tourers). Bruce Springsteen last night, what a long show huh? 3 and a half hours approx, Bruce's voice sounds great but the main thing for me was that not enough hits were played, I'm a casual fan but I still enjoyed the show. Bruce is one person who definitely gives the hardcore fans what they want huh? 3 songs in he was down the front taking sign requests (not the first time in the show) and made a big pile of 'em. If it was up to me Born to Run and Born in the USA would be played back to back with additional hits/covers/stuff played in the encore(s). What a showman though! He didn't stop. I like how the work crew were just waiting at the side of the stage ready to disassemble it. The stage has a long catwalk thing and he was spending a lot of time with the guys at front, shaking hands, them touching him/his guitar etc. The last two songs were beautiful, everyone else had gone but it was just Bruce, his acoustic and harmonica playing 'Janey don't you lose heart' and 'Thunder Road'. ALSO this was a surprise, Eric Burdon of The Animals came on to sing 'We've Gotta Get Out Of This Place' with Bruce. Overall: The E-street band rocks, the whole production is wonderful too, more hits in the set and it would have been fab. I would have loved to hear 'The River', 'Atlantic City', 'Glory Days', 'Streets of Philadelphia', 'I'm on fire' etc.
