Just missed getting tickets. $40... a steal. Gutted. Anyone think he'll play another NYC show before he retires?
I sent you a PM around 1:00, wish you would have let me know how you did around that time. I could have helped!
How? PM me!!?

Matchbox
We Can Work It Out Paul told us that his original Hofner bass was missing....He joked that some guy has it in a secret room somewhere... He also joked with the couple who got tickets from Jimmie Fallon. The show was outstanding, though it was very hard to see Paul if you weren't in the front area. I think the 2007 show at the Highline may have had a higher stage which made it easier to see Paul and the floor was much wider there. Irving Plaza is more confined, the stage was set at floor level and there were more people there to account for the crowding. But we got a fantastic show..Paul loved being there, and happily interacted with the audience. We were so lucky to be there! Thanks, Paul!Great to see you!

Was there a metal detector screening? How heavy was security? Just a little concerned with the small spaces- was unnerved when there was ZERO frisking in Albany. EDIT: I mean f r i s k ing!!! Haahahahaha!

Good seeing you too, forget 64! Hope you had a good spot for the show. We were more toward the center back which made viewing difficult, but we were so grateful to have gotten in! Paul thanked SNL people during the show, so we'll have to see which segments of the concert are used tonight...maybe for the 7-8PM red carpet pre-show?

I just read a concert report from Tom Frangione, a writer for Beatlefan magazine, among other things, and I saw this interesting tidbit: "The remaining tickets were distributed to fan club members selected from the paulmccartney.com website registry... For those of us selected at random from the website registry, calls were made the night before the show from the Crowd Surge ticket office, advising of the show and that Paul wanted some real fans to be there (recalling the old Wings Fun Club modus operandi). No other details such as the show time or venue were shared; all we were told is that a follow-up email would be forthcoming. A few hours later, the email arrived, providing only an address to pick up the wristbands (we could bring a guest and get two) between 4 and 9 pm, meaning the show would be a late one. Upon arriving at the hospitality suite to get the wristbands, guests were each given a single long stem rose, and an envelope with foil hearts and some chocolate kisses. Photos were taken of couples in front of a holiday themed backdrop complete with teddy bears, balloons, hearts and flowers. Most importantly, the venue and instructions to line up at 9:30 were also provided." I realize that they can't do a lot of Valentine's Day themed stuff they did for every show (obviously), but has anyone ever heard of Paul's people selecting people for gigs via the website's registry?

Awww...how special! No...I think this is a new idea! I'd like it more if it were in my hometown...but hey...glad everyone had a great time.

I guess the fan club members contacted were all in the New York City area??? How very special for them. So it was standing room on the floor. Were there seats on the upper level. Is that where the celebrities sat? Were the fan club members there or on the floor? Just curious. So very happy for those that got to attend.

There was a couple on line who said they got a call and follow up email from crowd surge, and that's how they got the tickets. She said she wasn't registered with PM.com. She also didn't remember when the last time was that she bought tickets from crowd surge

They got a random call from Crowd Surge, they don't remember the last time she bought tix from Crowd Surge, and they weren't registered with the website and still got tickets? That doesn't make any sense.

Yes, I heard a similar story from a fellow. How he got a phone call out of the blue on Friday from a woman at crowdsurge asking if he'd be interested in attending the secret concert in NYC. He told them yes and he got an email with the details. He traveled a long distance Saturday but he made it to be there! Paul asked the audience "How many of you are from New York City?" Got a roar response. And then he asked how many are not from New York City and he got a sizable response to that too. He welcomed them, too. Speaking of getting tickets, here's a NY Daily News story http//www.nydailynews.com/new-york/couple-scores-extra-paul-mccartney-ticket-daily-news-article-1.2115919

Sounds like it was a fantastic show. Can't wait to see some clips tonight on the SNL special, if they truly are showing a part of it! -Rubber Soul13

See, he can throw the chestnuts in whenever he want. This are the songs which would shake up a regular gig every now and then, no reason to only bring them out for special occasions like this where only a very select lucky few fans can hear them. Very frustrating.
The extras were soundcheck favorites.
Yes. These are probably easier (dare I say lazier) changes that can be "flown in." I've been at actual soundchecks with more ambitious choices: Letting Go, Flaming Pie, Bluebird, Junior's Farm, Miss Ann, Whole Lotta Shakin', Ram On, Penny Lane etc, etc, etc. He could have expanded a song he does quite a bit and given it a full blown test run: Big Barn Bed. I was half expecting a Come and Get It, She's a Woman or some other songs they've done before in concert. These are pretty easy to wheel out I'd have thought. And moreover quite amazed he didn't trot out On My Way To Work, Alligator (both rehearsed often, soundchecked and OMWTW played in concert.) Still...carry on.

Phoning it in. If even for "impromptu" gigs like this he wheels out the "been there - done that" ... well, good luck mate.
Yep, it is disappointing. I like 50's rock as much as anyone but this show was a great time to throw in a different song from "New" or some solo song he has never played before live like "Take It Away". Shows like this are when you can "wing it" (lol) a bit more because it is impromptu show and tickets are cheap.
All true, but really, for only $40? For that price, and in this size venue, I would be deliriously happy with this set. I'm sure that a big reason this was planned was to warm up for the SNL special tomorrow and the Far East tour coming up. I'm sure it gets Paul and the band's blood pumping.
That is part of my point, tickets were only $40 so you don't have to worry about disappointing people because they paid hundreds of dollars. Fine, play the Beatle hits but instead of "Matchbox", do something different from"New". I like "Every Night" as much as anyone but he had done that on tour, try one of the songs I mentioned as an example. My goodness, impromptu show should be time to just do whatever you want.
Yep.

I bet board members who were there will have a lot of exciting stories to tell once they wake up. Meanwhile, here is a review by the New York Times: http://nytimes.com/2015/02/16/arts/music/paul-mccartney-offers-guileless-romance-at-irving-plaza.html
"He drew on every decade of his long career." Yes, except the '80s, '90s, and '00s. "the Beatles? brilliant Beach Boys parody ?Back in the U.S.S.R.? Hmm, I'd call it more a pastiche, and it's also mainly a pastiche of Chuck Berry's "Back in the U.S.A."...
Yet, more examples of how of journalism has devolved into undisciplined bullsh-t.
