NYC, NY - Irving Plaza - 14th February 2015 - ARCHIVE

This sounds like a great show. And a great idea. It shows that if Paul McCartney really wants to, he can play small venues for less money. IF he wants to.

Sounded absolutely fine to me -Rubber Soul13
Me too!

Just missed getting tickets. $40... a steal. Gutted. Anyone think he'll play another NYC show before he retires?
I sent you a PM around 1:00, wish you would have let me know how you did around that time. I could have helped!

What a great show! No special guests on stage, but plenty in the crowd. Chevy Chase, Bruce Springsteen, David Spade, Chris Rock. I thought the setlist was fine. It looks "same old, same old" on paper, but it always feels new to me when I'm hearing it live! Though as long as he keeps playing Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Five, I'll always be satisfied. I hope everyone else enjoyed themselves as well!

I don't know if it was already posted on here but they gave that poster out when you left. No merchandise booth's at all.

Wow, just wow!

I was glad there weren't any special guests, I went to see him.

I was thinking the same thing! Also I didn't see anybody handing out those posters as I was leaving. Darn! Oh well.
-
See, he can throw the chestnuts in whenever he want. This are the songs which would shake up a regular gig every now and then, no reason to only bring them out for special occasions like this where only a very select lucky few fans can hear them. Very frustrating.

Sorry to hear that. As soon as he ended I was by the exit and bolted out so I could get my car out of the lot and beat the rush. There were 2 girls with boxes on a table right by the exit. That's where I got it.

From that Village Voice guy's Instagram: http://instagram.com/p/zG8kImiZz6/ Rose petals during "My Valentine," I presume?

Phoning it in. If even for "impromptu" gigs like this he wheels out the "been there - done that" ... well, good luck mate.
Yep, it is disappointing. I like 50's rock as much as anyone but this show was a great time to throw in a different song from "New" or some solo song he has never played before live like "Take It Away". Shows like this are when you can "wing it" (lol) a bit more because it is impromptu show and tickets are cheap.

Yes he can but this was a great opportunity to do something different besides some 50's rock. I would have been impressed if he did different song from "New" or some solo song he has never done live like "Take It Away. "That Was Me" which was only played in Paris I believe would have been cool also.

All true, but really, for only $40? For that price, and in this size venue, I would be deliriously happy with this set. I'm sure that a big reason this was planned was to warm up for the SNL special tomorrow (oops, tonight!) and the Far East tour coming up. I'm sure it gets Paul and the band's blood pumping.

That is part of my point, tickets were only $40 so you don't have to worry about disappointing people because they paid hundreds of dollars. Fine, play the Beatle hits but instead of "Matchbox", do something different from"New". I like "Every Night" as much as anyone but he had done that on tour, try one of the songs I mentioned as an example. My goodness, impromptu show should be time to just do whatever you want.

Yes, he certainly could have, and I would love it if he did exactly what you're saying. In this case, "what he wants" is apparently to do a set that he knew he could nail, and that the band already knew. He seems more likely to pull out odd solo tracks in a loose, acoustic setting; now THAT is a show I would pay hundreds of dollars to see.

I'll be honest, I think there are some fans that should just take a break. Have gotten so jaded and negative about everything around McCartney. Has it occurred to anyone that his setlist may reflect 'what he wants to play' and not 'what he thinks he needs to play'. He certainly doesn't just phone in performances. I think he largely plays what he wants to play. There are some changes i'd like to see but frankly, i'm glad he still goes out and plays. Not many of his contemporaries still play as much as he does. I love the small theatre idea, but i think it is unlikely to happen because it means working up more songs and I think he is simply too busy to think about doing that. Just think in the last year and little more he's done an album, worked with Kanye, working on a movie, worked on a video game, working on a classical guitar concerto. There's only so much time. And while when I saw him last year I got the cheap seats as that is all I could afford, i don't begrudge him his concert prices. They are not out of line with other artists of his stature - and just becuase he has alot of money doesn't mean he should be touring for free, or for a discount for his fans. I will also add that I do hope he hits some of the places he hasn't played the last few years - Australia and Europe would top my list there. Happy Valentine's guys. RamblinRed

Really, you think it is being "jaded" and "negative" to wish Mr. McCartney did some songs from his solo career. Actually, I think Mr. McCartney should be happy that someone "jaded" like me actually wants to hear songs past the year 1970. BTW - this "jaded" and "negative" fan is one of those that is buying his solo releases and heaven forbid I would love to hear some more of it live - lol I truly understand Mr. McCartney plays what he wants but myself and others just wish we could hear more of his great music than just songs from 40-50 yrs ago.
