"APPRECIATE" NEEDS TO BE A SINGLE! IT WOULD GET
-
'Appreciate' would have sounded perfectly on 'Press to Play'. But that was nearly 30 years ago! Now, its just a snore.
-
What are you smokin' Joey? Oh, well, to each his own. Hey, what is that near the beginning of the song? Sounds like a baby crying!

Great groove on Appreciate! Love it....one of the best on the album. Love the echos the sonics...who is drumming on this? The guitar work towards the end is ferocious! The middle bars are a throwback to "bogey music". Anybody catching that?
Abe is listed as the drummer! Lists Paul as playing "Ciguitar," Keyboards and drums too! I freakin' love this song too!
The "ciguitar" would be that cigar box guitar he played with the Nirvana guys, right?

Correct

KCSN is doing their fund drive, and a woman for Concord Music Group came by to donate Paul swag bags for donations. I called in to request "Appreciate," and Les, the host, told the woman that he appreciated her for donating the bags and played the song in her and my honor. ;-D parlance

That and I CAN BET..
Agree with I Can Bet as single, not Appreciate.

Oh, I'm quite happy with 'Queenie Eye' being the single....for numerous reasons!! First, (as a big fan of The Beatles and Paul McCartney) I just think it's very very catchy...once the chorus kicks in...and is very well written and produced! Second, As a gay guy, I can assure everyone it will be a big sing along at the gay bars. I mean, "Queenie Eye, queenie Eye, who's got the ball...not in my pocket...fan the flame...careful what you touch in case you burn**[...O.U.T. spells out, that's out, without a shadow of a doubt**....never blame circumstances if romances seldom came..." I mean. how can that NOT be a big sing along. Take my word for it!! Numerous songs...over the years...have become big mainstream hits because they were FIRST popular in gay bars and gay guys loved them. This will be a sing along just as Adele's funky "...rolling in the deep" was and still is in the bars. We love to sing those funky lyrics and we will love singing those of ....'Queenie Eye'!!!! Now, back to being just a regular fan....it's just a great song!! Thank you Pauls (McCartney & Epworth)....both of you!!!!!
Sorry but Queenie Eye is about a children's game. Paul:"Now this song, Queenie Eye, is based on a game we used to play when I was a kid." I wouldn't try to claim it as a gay song or for the gay crowd. P.S. don't be personally offended. Just setting the record straight.
-
They can interpret the words that way, though, if they want to, can't they? Ascribe their own significance to a line, that means something to them? Especially to the chant "Out." Paul should be alright with that. He's stated before that he likes to see what meanings people come up with, for his songs. It's interesting for him.

Doesn't have to have a gay origin to be claimed by the gay crowd. We're used to taking what we can get!

Personally I dislike Appreciate---But to each their own! If I had to pick a single after Queenie-Eye and New which I both LOVE! The next that I would say are the two best right up there are Alligator and the one starting to become my favorite.... HOSANNA! I can't get this song out of my brain! It is such a haunting and melodic sound to it.

Hosanna has that dreamy quality to it, and the vocal matches the feel of the song, one of my favourites right there. I was reminded, don't know how by the soundtrack to Shes the One that Tom Petty and the HB's did nearly 20 years ago, which is very underrated

This is all too funny!! Certainly not offended, beatlesfanrandy! I really really knew that Paul was referencing a childhood game, I really did! No claim being made on behalf of "the gay crowd". (And your comments were in good fun, so no harm, no foul. ) "We" do, however, like to be a bit campy when given the chance and have a certain sense of humor about ourselves and the world at large; hope that comes across and everyone knows what 'campy' means. Not taking the song literally! It just has words that are fun to say to amuse ourselves in a campy way. I mean how can one not sing...'Out, without a shadow of a doubt'....without giving a knowing smile to each other...in a bar setting or wherever? Thank you, favoritething! And Suzylovespaul: "They" ? Must we be a "they"? Can't we just be part of "we" or ..."people" can interpret it however they want.

"Appreciate" is jaw droppingly good. THAT is your hit off of "New". That has to be a single. It would get you airplay on radio.
ABSOLUTELY!!

I'm not a gay man so I wrote "they" but obviously I was sympathetic. Your posts and favoritething's are so upbeat and cheery and I love yours!

Thank you! And I'm sorry I got your sign-in name wrong...previously. I wrote SusyLovesPaul instead of SuzyLuvsPaul. Your explanation for using 'they' is quite sufficient and very acceptable!!

hee hee, thank you. It's Susy and not Suzy 'cause my Christian name is Susan. Easy to get it mixed up, I know Y'all ought to play "Queenie Eye" in your gay bars, 'cause it keeps saying "Out"--also for the word Queenie I guess, LOL, and I hope you play other songs of his too during your revels. You might have noticed he's a bit of a dandy now & then. There'll be a special sparkly rock star touch to his wardrobe like long fancy capes, for example. He had his concert dressing room tent done up like Arabian Nights at one venue I read about--all those gorgeous colors, textures and designs....Love that he did that!

Of course, Paul wasn't alone in '76 with the sparkles and capes! Tying back to the topic, it's tantalizing to think what a skilled remixer could do with "Appreciate" to get it played in clubs. If Yoko can top the US dance charts (ten times!), anything is possible.

It's funny you say that, because I was wondering today what someone like Steve Aoki might do with the song. parlance

I think it could make it into the clubs as is. It's a great dance tune!
