"Off The Ground" re-release

You guys realize this is not simply a re-release, right? Paul has re-recorded the entire album "live in the studio", meaning that each song was performed in a single take, no overdubs. I did not see that coming!

I'm serious. It's all over the internet for at least 12 hours now. I can provide links, but they are all either in Portuguese or Spanish. Here is one: http://elcomercio.pe/luces/musica/paul-mccartney-lanzara-reedicion-vivo-off-the-ground-noticia-1705874

O...M...G...you're right! http://www.amazon.com/Off-Ground-Paul-McCartney/dp/B00EEPFQ88/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1391046748&sr=1-1&keywords=off+the+ground+paul+mccartney Digitally remastered reissue of the ninth solo studio album by the legendary Sir Paul McCartney, originally released in 1993. As his first studio album of the 1990s, it is also the follow-up to his acclaimed 1989 endeavor, Flowers in the Dirt. Sir Paul decided to record the album "live in the studio," meaning that the band would rehearse an entire song then record it in one take, instead of recording each vocal track and instrumental track separately. This approach gave a new, raw and direct feel to the work. His increased interest in social issues came to prominence on this album, with the anti-animal cruelty rocker 'Looking for Changes,' or paeans for a better world ('Hope of Deliverance' and 'C'mon People'). This is an important album in the McCartney catalog of music, and is a pivotal addition to all McCartney music collections, and Rock music collections in general.

I see how that can be interpreted that way...but could it simply mean that's how the band back then (with Hamish, Robbie and Blair) approached it? This is already released, right? If so, how come it hasn't been reported by a pm.com boardie as such? Edit***and in listening to the samples provided in the link, they sound exactly like the 1993 versions

According to the news reports it's a re-recording of the whole album. Unless they misunderstood and their source meant a simple re-release of the original album, in which case some major news outlets have embarrassed themselves big time. I don't know the truth, I'm just passing along this story, which is geting a lot of publicity in a few countries.

Duh, oh yeah. You're right. I misread the above blurb as to meaning now, today.

That's good - it means I'm saving approximately $10 by being right

It's not a re-recording, just a remaster. The album has been out of print for several years.

Getting back to the quality of Off the Ground (original CD) I don't consider any of Paul's studio albums in their totality to be weak going back to Flowers in the Dirt. I do think that Paul takes a couple of missteps in OTG especially with C'mon Peope and Peace in the Neighborhood. I agree with others who have said that these 2 tracks are "forced" with Paul trying too hard to make a big hit. Not putting Macca down...even a genius can take a misstep from time to time. I do agree that both songs did fare better in their "live" treatments. This being said, there were many very good songs on OTG. Hope of Deliverence, I Owe it all to You, Mistress and Maid, Lovers that Never Were, Golden Earth Girl, and Winedark Open Sea especially. I understand why some people wouldn't like Biker Like an Icon but I like it. I liked the guitar vibe to it plus I thought the lyrics were good... about a girl who took a serious wrong direction in her life and her family not being able to find her. 'As I said, I think that all of Paul's album since Flowers are similar in that they all have many good tracks on them. I just don't think that OTG is as totally consistent as Chaos, Flaming Pie and NEW.

Really like Off The Ground . Always thought it had a nice live feel, but didn't realise it was . Bought it on vinyl recently and sounds great. I don't know how anybody could have read that Amazon blurb and assumed that Paul had just re-recorded the album in 2013/2014 :

To me, "Winedark Open See" is a classic example of a Paul near-miss. There's a great song in there somewhere, but he never quite found it.

I've always wondered if Paul was inspired by Stephen Caudel's 1986 instrumental album 'Wine Dark Sea'?
-
I always thought the strength of Off the Ground was I Owe it All to You, Golden Earth Girl and Winedark Open Sea. The slower songs. Even now, I reckon they are my fave three from that album.... I have a special affinity with the album because he toured on it in Australia. Went to both of those concerts at the MCG (which is one of the most famous grounds, if not the best stadium for football, in the world.) I kinda cringe, though, at Looking for Changes, Peace in the Neighbourhood and C'mon People.

You're gifted, Nancy!.... Human Beatle almanacs are a gifted and appreciated species, indeed.

I think Appreciate sounds forced, more so than C'mon people, which sounds like a McCartney song.
-
I have the "Off the Ground Complete Works" so I don't need to spend money on something I already have.
