Mod Post Hi Guys, We're spotting posts mentioning enthusiasm to hear or obtain "leaks" or pre-release copies of the upcoming album "New". Please note we cannot allow any posts that mention material unofficially available prior to the formal release date. This might be links to downloads or pointers to sites hosting unreleased material in any form whatever. We may be required to remove posts even suggesting that such has occurred. This includes posts containing personal reviews of material heard through such sources. Whilst we do not doubt the integrity of fans here and are sure they will reward Paul correctly for his efforts by purchasing copies - even multiple copies - of the new album, this site will become the look-see place for profiteers that have no such intention. So even goodwill posts for the benefit of other true fans may damage Paul's efforts commercially and, in consequence, affect sales and chart success. So please, if you learn of any early unauthorised release please don't share that info here. You will have ample opportunity to discuss and celebrate the new release at the appropriate time. Thank you Martin
Thanks, Martin. It would appear we are going to NEED to buy multiple copies of "New" just to get all the songs whether we want to or not. That should help Paul commercially. There is the 12-song version, a 14-song version and 15 and/or 16-song versions. Maybe some word should filter back to Paul that it might be nice to have just one version of the album with ALL the songs. Why should loyal fans be treated in this manner? We don't want to hurt Paul commercially, but we would like to be treated a bit differently by him as well.
well said!!

Here we are on page 71. We've finally reached Paul's age! A Philadelphia music critic previews the fall releases. He's a little lazy in his description of Paul's album (since we know that the song "New" is not an indication of the whole album's sound!). "Paul McCartney, New. (On sale Oct. 5.) The still-cute-at-71 Beatle follows up Kisses on the Bottom, last year's loungey album of silly love-song standards, with a full-length set of originals. Recorded with a foursome of young producers including Mark Ronson, Paul Epworth, Ethan Johns, and Giles (son of George) Martin, New's title track suggests that this time out, we're in for a friskier Macca, always reliable with forgettable lyrics and memorable melodies." Favorite Thing, I have lived in the Philadelphia area my whole life and just read this small preview this morning in the Philadelphia Inquirer. Glad you posted it. The writer is Dan Deluca and he's the paper's music critic. It was part of their "Fall Music Preview". This guy always infuriates me and it just didn't start with this preview although I will begin here. First of all, I hate critics who describe Paul as the "cute Beatle" as if he gets by on his looks rather than talent. I will let that slide because many other critics use the "cute one" phrase also. It's a pet peeve of mine. It is the last sentence that really annoys me. Like others, he lumps Paul's music into one neat niche...great melodies but no substance. As I mentioned, this isn't the first time he has said virtually the same thing (more on that later). I hate the fact that he just puts Paul into this box without really delving into Paul's tremendous Catalog. He is like many other rock critics who just know Paul for his Silly Love Song, Let 'em In, My Love Pop style lyrics. It is easy for them to use those examples and just say that Paul can't write lyrics. Many of these critics go on to imply or say directly that John gave the Beatles their real substance. The fact is that Paul is a very prolific Pop/Rock writer who constantly works at his craft. He has many songs that have very good lyrics and others where the melodies dominate and he just instinctively puts in words that sound good. Paul's Jet is a good example. Who the hell knows what the lyrics mean but it is one hell of a rocker. I shouldn't let these critics get to me but it is their lack of respect that is so annoying. I have to remember Bob Dylan's comment about Paul..."He is the one living music artist that I'm in awe of". I think Bob knows a little more about songwriting than Mr. Deluca does. Paul's last concert in Philly was in 2011 I believe. I was there as always and it was a fabulous show. This was the tour where Paul added 1985, Letting Go, Venus and Mars/Rock Show etc. It was also the first time I heard him do "I'm Looking Through You, And I Love Here, Two of Us, Ob-La-Di and a few others live. As we were leaving, all the people (young and old) around me were going on and on about how great the show was. The next day in the Philadelphia Inquirer, Mr. Deluca begrudgingly said that McCartney delivered the goods. At the same time, he had to point out a couple of his Solo "lightweight" songs he didn't like like Let Em In and My Love (two songs out of 36 I might add). If any artist that Mr. Deluca personally likes did a show even close to the caliber of Paul's, he would have gone on and on about how great it was. I guess I just have to realize that not everyone (including some critics) likes Macca. I'm sure what these critics say really don't bother Paul and I have to remember that fact. The important thing is that millions of people know how talented Paul is and that is what is important.

Yes, I hear ya, BJ. I live in the Philly area also, and I'm familiar with DeLuca; he's knowledgeable, but at times a little too glib and too eager to please the hip crowd (though he does misspell the artist known as The Weeknd elsewhere in his roundup, which doesn't help Dan's hip credentials, I must say). I agree with everything you said, and I was at the last Philly show as well. Looks like maybe 2014 we'll see him again? Let's hope. He skipped many major venues in 2013.

I couldn't have put it better myself, well said. Every artist that's been around as long as Paul has his ups and downs artistically, but it seems Paul's poorer songs are sticks to beat him over the head with unfortunately. Critics seem to harp on about an Ebony And Ivory and Mary Had A Little Lamb and never praise a No More Lonely Nights or Tug Of War, there's never a balanced argument ever as i can see on Paul's post fabs era.

Favorite Thing, You probably remember DeLuca's review after the show. For a show that in my opinion, was for the ages, his review was so understated. Let's hope Paul does come back to Philly in 2014. Maybe we can meet before the show. I'm retired now so this time I may try to do the soundcheck. Never have done that in the past but as a lifelong fan, this would be the time to do it. Getting back to that last show, didn't Paul do Junior's Farm for the first time in Philly. I think he did Junior's Farm but not positive.

Thanks Triplets. It was 2010 and I went to both shows. I remember he changed up on a couple of numbers between the 2 shows. I thought both shows were great. By the way, I always see Paul in Philly and I was at the show where Paul brought the Triplets up on stage. Fabulous!

Got Secret Life of a Party Girl from WogBlog. They were the first ones out with the "rumored" track listing. They have Party Girl listed and since the other 13 tracks have wound up confirmed after Walmart and Amazon France listed theirs, I really doubt that they were luck to guess 13 out of 14. I'd say they probably have it right but time will tell for sure

quick review - the album is HOT! My thoughts----- very generic Save US-10 -- the echoing of screams - lyrics brill Alligator- 10 - reminds me of MAF On My Way To Work -10 - like the lyrics & musical arrangement this will grow on you,... Queenie- Eye - 10 just fantastic! Beatles & Wings vibe-- lyrics clever & Fun so damn catchy-- if someone doesn't dig Queenie Eye- somethings wrong with your ears... Early Days- 7 not to keen on the music.. sounds a bit too country- but I like the lyrics - looking back on life.. New- 7 - listened to it too much Laughing favorite line " Don't Look At Me" & the harmonies give me chills, brings a smile to your face - if they do this live hope they include them harmonies... Appreciate- not sure bout this one yet Everybody Out There -10 excellent fantastic acoustic guitar - love the God references- lyrics love em...Paul is so prophetic " I know what it's like' Hosana-8 like the opening lines- sounds like something off the Fireman I Can Bet- 10 reminds me of solo Paul Mac..Packs a lyrical punch the opening verses = Fireman ending. I really dig this one too.. great beat.. bet this will become a fave with hard core fans... kinda a dark horse off the album~ Looking At Her - not a fav... Road- not sure of this one either Turned Out- 9-reminds me of George Harrison influences in them guitars.. nostalgic song.. Get Me Out of Here 6- slight bluesy vibe- on acoustic Scared- 10 piano - haunting- deep.. mesmerizing...lyrics vulnerable and fabulous.. I Love this song-- One of Paul's best songs ever - in regards to ballads - tripped when I heard this a few days ago... 7 songs I rate a 10-- excellent album.... lots of gems in NEW
