Sometimes it's kind of depressing to see Paul get older

I always compare my own current age to what Paul was doing at that age. For example, I am now almost 49 years old. Paul turned 49 years old in 1991. I was already worried that he was getting to old to gone much longer back then. He had just toured in 89-90 and thought that he might be going to retire. He had turned 40 as I graduate high school in 1982 and I thought that was old. Now, I realize that 49 is just not that old and 40 is really, really young. He was 59 years old when I first saw him in concert in April, 2002 (in Las Vegas). I remember hoping that as I bought tickets, he could still perform a three hour concert at that advanced age. Now that Paul is 70 and still rocking, 59 seems young. Thus, in some ways, Paul keeps me young. I hope that he is performing in his 80s, giving all of us young ones hope for the future. I have followed Paul since my sister had a Beatles album called "Something New" (that included songs from a Hard's Day Night). When my Mom used to dust our stereo, she would take out the albums. I would then identify the four Beatles and Paul was my favorite from that early age. I must had been about 3 or 4 then. Paul has always been part of my life and watching him age has just been part of living my life.
Unbelievable! I've done that my whole life and have never told anyone. I'm 38 now, have been a fan since the 80s. I was around 14 when I first heard the Beatles and thinking how old John and Ring seemed when they quit the band. It was only when I myself turned 30 that I realized how young they really were and how much they had accomplished so early in life. It's funny the little games we play in our heads.

Whether male or female (and all others in-between), fame + money + power = younger mates. Madonna Cher Tina Turner Macca Trump (yecchhhhh!) Not to suggest that the love is any less genuine than those in a relationship who are of the same age. And to Paul's credit, Linda was a few years older than Paul.
She was only 9 months older than Paul audi! (born Sept. 24, 1941)
Yeah, but she was a far cry older then Jane who was only 17 when Paul met her. Granted, Jane was beautiful and interesting but still, I hate 17 year old girls and don't get the fascination with them. (They be b****es)

I work with 17-year old girls, and no, they aren't. Can some be? Sure. But can't we all?

I went to an all girls school. as a result, I hate teenage girls. Never met one with any manners or nicety. Just entitlement and rudeness myself. but then, I do live in a rich neighborhood

I am in my late 50s, remember the early days of the Fabs when it seemed they and everyone else under 30 would be forever young. Whats tougher than seeing him age is hearing him age, had on Oh Woman, Oh Why a song I bought on the Another Day single back in 1971. Hard to hear it on the Ram remix and realize there is just no way he can ever, ever sound that way again. Still, if there was a Nobel Prize for Graceful Aging, he would win given his looks, energy and incredible musical skills which are undiminished, except where limited by an aging vocal range.

My son, who is almost 26, does the same thing--he is astounded when I tell him that Paul wrote Yesterday when he was not quite 23, he was still 24 when they did Sgt. Pepper, and he was his age when he wrote Hey Jude!

Isn't that incredible? Goes for all the Beatles, think about how young they were when they were writing these absolute amazing songs. The kind of pressure to write an anthem for TV for millions and churning out All U Need Is Love. To have that much skill early in life. I've always said it, that's the difference maker in who makes it in music. You have to be REALLY good really young or the scene and all that's required of you kind of passes you by. Most huge stars do strike when they're really young. It's a certain level of that word we throw around 'genius'. Innate ability that's just there.
-
I don't think I have ever done that. But now that it's mentioned. I'm 44 and so was Paul when he released one of my favorite albums.

Paul did that Live At The Cavern Club concert in 1999 when he was my age.

something about the Beatles that has always fascinated me (and Dylan too) is that they were recognized in their own lifetimes from early on. Think about how many weren't recognized until generations after they were gone (Phillip K Dick. I always say I'm going to end up like him)

Perhaps. I relate it to my own experience too. I grew up with a lot of friends who weren't musicians, and I sort of got my bother into it but he was 6 yrs younger than I. So I never really had the opportunity to build and nurture my skills early enough to where I would have been at a point where I would have considered perusing music as a career. And as just a singer/songwriter, looking back, I just think I was about 10 years too slow in my own development. If I was as good at 15 as I was at 25 I could have given it a shot. By 25 it wasn't something I felt was obtainable. And now writingwise, at 35, I'm better than I was at 25. Just developed too slow... Now i have a job, family, a whole life, and music is a hobby. You need to be awesome from the word go to make it. Or at least to make it big. Part of the reason I credit Lennon so much with the initial success of the Beatles. He had that panache and voice right out of the gate, I think more than the others. That's key to breaking out.

Phillip K WHO? Was his last name D i c k or something?

Difficult to see him get older each year? As they say, consider the alternative. Getting older is a natural process and part of life. It's beautiful. And touching.

I regret starting this thread since seeing the Hurricane Sandy concert! I have to admit the Olympics/Jubilee shows did make me lose a lot of faith in his ability but he's still got that something that makes him the greatest!
