New in the Charts Thread

Number 3 in the US...behind Pearl Jam and Miley Cyrus. Disappointing sales figures IMO. Pearl Jam 170k Miley 74k Paul 67k Miley was in her second week
Yeah. #3 is not bad (and better than Elton John did), but the numbers are a letdown. Even Pearl Jam came in a little under the estimates.

I agree, Number 3 is not bad, but the album is sooo fantastic and Paul promoted so much for it, I was hoping for at least #2. Oh, well....I can't wait to see the Queenie Eye video!!
-
While I would like him at No1 I don't see all the fuss many of his albums haven't reached No 1, also saying that Queenie Eye wont make a difference isn't strictly true either because looked what happened with Say Say Say back in the 80's soon as the video came out the song went back up the charts and Pipes Of Peace album went back up to 4 so it can happened. I thought that was a great album and should have been number 1 I also loved Driving Rain but look what happened to that

Duly noted.

I've requested both singles at three radio stations in my city, and I've yet to hear anything. I am, once again, reminded of that Johnny Cash Billboard magazine ad that I think Paul should seriously consider adapting:

Danish Macca:
I think that Dylan is at least as big a musical icon as McCartney.
IMO - Nobody is as big a icon as any Beatle especially McCartney. While you can say Dylan is his equal as a songwriter he can't compare to McCartney vocally or as a musician. Even now, you see people with tears in their eyes and smiles on their faces listening to McCartney in concert. I doubt Dylan gets that type of reaction even if you can understand what he is singing. Put it this way, if Dylan showed up in the middle of Times Square to play for 15 minutes do you think there would be the same reaction, I doubt it.

Yeah! He could use oobu's avatar!

No doubt! I'm so sick of American Top 40 radio. They have, overwhelmingly, been dissing Paul's new music for nearly 25 years now.

Only if he asks nicely.

Maybe in Britain. In the U.S., the highest POP charted was #15, even though Say Say Say was a massive hit single.

Amen. It's worst here in L.A. other-than KLOS playing the same Wings tunes (and you can guess which songs) there's not one station that plays anything by Paul even the soft adult pop stations. It's a down out crying shame. But again Los Angeles radio is just bad in general. We do have Breakfast with the Beatles, but Paul's catalog shouldn't be restricted to Sundays 10am-12pm.

New is charting well around the world #2 in Japan #2 in France #6 in Germany
-
I had my heart set on a No. 1. Let's hope that the upcoming "Queenie Eye" video keeps the buzz for the album going. Maybe we'll get our top spot next week.

Many of the new cars today have Sirius as standard for 3 months and then you have to sign up. I have been away from Sirius for a couple of years but why doesn't Paul's marketing people work on having a Paul McCartney station. I remember other big name stations had their own station on Sirius. I have to get a new car and if I knew that Paul had his own station, I know that I would buy a subscription (Maybe get it free for a few months). I would think that this would be very helpful in Paul's sales of albums. People would hear so many different Macca songs. They could have special shows of playing complete albums. Can anyone shed any light on Paul's presence on Sirius. Again, I would think it would help in "NEW" sales if people could hear his new and whole Catalog for that matter. I think Sirius is pretty darn big as an alternate to Commercial Radio which is horrible if you are a Macca fan.

He did have a Sirius channel in late 2010 for a brief period, and I see he was just interviewed on a Sirius station by Dave Marsh, and of course Howard Stern. Wouldn't be a bad idea to do a station again, though!

I know right! If there must be a Margaritaville, Grateful Dead, Pearl Jam stations (Elvis I get), then bring in Paul. It's a far superior catalog of music for a broader range of people to enjoy. Sirius Spectrum channel did play "On My Way to Work" yesterday evening.

Sirius Spectrum (channel 01 has been playing New regularly since it came out. Here's their most-played tunes: http://www.fmqb.com/Article.asp?id=255603

There are great regional variations in the airplay the album is getting. I'd be really interested to know what impact that had on sales. In addition to LA, New has gotten basically no play here in San Francisco (KFOG played it a bit in September, but it never seemed to get on the regular playlist). But in Portland, OR, the major AC and Triple A stations (KKCW and KINK, respectively) have both been playing it. So have a few stations in and around New York City -- most notably WLTW, which has been playing it steadily since it came out. But there are parts of the country not hearing it at all. And yeah, Top 40 radio doesn't play Paul anywhere. Or Dylan. Or Paul Simon, etc. That's life.
