Would like Paul to continue these interesting unexpected collaborations, always did fancy his many delightful (usually) surprises The sullen petulant pouter Kanye and sexpot Rihanna, and now Lady Gaga, she can be such a hoot and a trip...Paul's having fun, and I love him having fun Fie on those who begrudge him his fun, larks and laffs Paul has more than earned his pleasures over the course of a long hard-working amazing career that's even been called part of "the greatest music story ever told"
I agree. Fie on those who begrudge him. Whatever that means!
That great album, Plaming Fie.

Bruce M.:
The new Rihanna video picked up over 1.5 million views in the first 12 hours or so. Combine that with continuing strong sales (#4 on iTunes as I write this) and steady grown on radio suggests it will continue moving up the charts this week and next at the very least. The person who called it a flop (ahem) might consider retracting that statement.
Hope Paul tops the charts again. He needs it.

Was thinking about this last night. It's really amazing the wide spectrum of music Macca has been involved in over the last 5-6 years. Let's start with the Electric Arguments with Youth. That puts you in the experimental/dance/techno area. You have Oceans Kingdom - Ballet Music You have Kisses on the Bottom - Jazz standards with Diana Krall and her Jazz Musicians You have Cut Me Some Slack with Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic and Pat Smear - alt/heavy rock You have the guitar concerto with Jeff Beck that was worked on but at some point shelved. He's working on a classical guitar concerto with Carlos Bunnell one of the world's great classical guitarists. He worked on music for a video game. He's worked on music with Kanye West and Rihanna - rap/hip-hop and dance He's working on an animated film, with it appearing the Lady Gaga has one of the primary roles. And he released a solo album as well and toured alot. That is an amazing amount of musical output and in so many different genre's. It's really amazing to me to see what he is doing in the later part of his career. He's obviously very motivated and full of inspiration. I may not like every thing he has done, but I don't think any of it has tarnished his reputation, in fact I think it is quite the opposite. I'm just happy that in his late 60's and into his 70's he is still working with his inspirations and sharing them with us. He has every right to retire and spend all his time with his family, but he continues to give music to his fans. RamblinRed

He also did a song on Steve Martin's bluegrass album.

RamblinRed Wow, it's really amazing. Well said. Absolutely agree.

And he's danced with a robot! Thanks, Ramblin Red. I don't think Paul is anywhere close to being done!

Darn. Forgot about the Steve Martin song - which is really good by the way. Steve Martin's story about how that came together is well worth listening to (you can find it on YouTube in a couple of his TV interviews - Letterman may be the best one at the time). Especially liked Martin relaying how when he told Macca that he was a bad singer McCartney responded "I thought you were just being modest, but you're right". RamblinRed

Great summary, Rambling Red, and something that really sets Paul apart from any contemporary (of any age)!

Yes his story IS cute. He said Paul asked which part did he want him to sing & Steve stammered & said well...all of it. And now I just remembered another...that one with Ringo. What was it called?

Now this piece, though I'm probably not the first to post it, sounds like Weird Paul. One of the Paul's I know and love. https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=790565470979006&set=vb.790272441008309&type=2&theater

I don't believe Rihanna's fans will ever be interested in Paul's music or attend Paul's concerts On the other hand, it'd be pretty sad to see Paul topping the charts with these collaborations and not with his own music

Sorry, but I have to disagree on this. First of all, the charts are the territory of young artists. Always has been, always will be. You won't see other artist of age topping the charts either. So what's sad about it? It's reality. Second, I think he does topping the charts with his own music. The melody is very McCartney alike. The lyrics are probably not his, but I think the music is typical Paul. And I love it! The guitar play, the singing, it has a great vibe; I love the video and to be honest, I'm a little bit proud every time I hear it on the radio. I mean, the man is 72, and he is hitting the charts! Come on, that's not really usual! And I'm realy enjoying all this. For the record, the song is second in the Dutch iTunes charts.

"On the other hand, it'd be pretty sad to see Paul topping the charts with these collaborations and not with his own music". McCartney's music for the last 10-15 years have received critical acclaim and multiple Grammy nominations. His releases have for the most part entered the charts in the top 10 which is pretty darn good but to expect an artist in his 60-70's to be a huge seller is not being realistic. These songs are not topping the charts because of McCartney, the young people are buying it because they like Kanye or Rihanna. I really don't think McCartney cares about it charting, think he has had plenty of chart success in his career- lol.

There is nothing Mr. McCartney could do to tarnish is his legacy. My goodness, he is a rock icon and was part of one of the greatest songwriting partnerships of all time. He has had massive commercial success with the Beatles and Wings. His solo recording s have received critical acclaim going back to 1989 and RS called TOW in 1982 a masterpiece. Mr. McCartney has been praised over the last 25 years as a fantastic live performer. The work with different types of music and artists you mentioned is quite impressive even if we all may not like everything he has done. Finally, the one poster with 61 posts who thinks everything is embarrassing is basically a troll.

Thanks for posting that one! I have just now listened and it sounds like The Fireman has come back! Cool! You know I might be losing my mind again, but this music is starting to grow on me. W+H=Y. A formula I can understand.
