I really hope this is all just a phase that is over and done with that song. It's not a bad song, BUT he's working with those kind of ... I don't even want to say musicians, let's say entertainers, I always try to avoid. And I don't like that at all.
No doubt! That's what my grandmother said about Elvis.
And mine said it about The Beatles!
I'm lost. They said what about Elvis and The Beatles?

It's been all over. I don't think it was questionable that he'd be performing.

You cannot compare Kanye to Elvis or the Beatles.

I don't; I am comparing the reactions to Kanye, Elvis and the Beatles;

My personal definitions are: Musicians; people who write, play and sing their own songs and don't feel the need for dressing up on stage and performing a dance routine, but are content with playing their instruments and singing. They are (mostly) remembered for their music. Entertainers: people who let write, are usually not seen with an instrument in their hands, need autotune, playback, a dance routine on stage and stage outfits that barely cover their bodies. They are remembered for their outfits, dance moves, bodies, scandals... For instance, when someone says Beatles, a song starts playing in my head. When someone says Kanye I think Kardashians. I'm not saying that "entertainers" are necessarily bad, they are just not my cup of tea

Didn't mean to offend you; as I said before, I was comparing reactions of 'older' generations to 'new' artists. And speaking for my late grandma, she probably only remembers the dance moves of Elvis and the outfit of the Beatles...
-
No worries, I wasn't offended And yes that's true of course, thats why I said "mostly remembered for their music", people who don't really like The Beatles' music or don't listen to it will remember them for something else, but that doesn't change the fact that they are singer/songwriters who know how to play instruments, don't do dance routines, etc = musicians Also, I'm 23 and not of the older generation reacting to newer artists ;D

He is shown lip-synching the chorus in the video, so whether or not he actually sang on the recording, he'll probably sing in the performance. Or so I assume, anyway.

By your definition Elle Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra were not musicians. Yeah. Right.

I would say they were singers not musicians. Musicians play a musical instrument. Probably separate unions. lol Although Louis & Elvis did play instruments.

Sinatra and Ella were not musicians unless you define musician differently - lol.

I get it, I really do. When we were all younger, everybody heard the same songs on the radio, and we all knew who all the popular artists were. Nowadays, everything is fragmented. We're all in our own bubbles, listening to what we want. An artist from another genre can have a number one album or a number one single on the Billboard chart, and 95% of the people in the country could have no idea who the heck they are, or have some distorted view based on their celebrity status. It just so happens that Paul broke through those barriers, but a lot of his fans haven't. It's a fact. People feel betrayed because they don't know what's going on. I understand the anger and confusion and frustration. This is totally alien to some people. It's not about who can sing or write songs or play instruments, or how they're dressed or whether they dance in their videos. It's about being an adult with the pressures of daily life, with jobs, kids, bills, aging parents. When you're young, especially a teenager, you have time to absorb all this new stuff, but now, you just don't care. And that's okay. And Paul will perform with Kanye and Rihanna and everything will be fine.
