FourFiveSeconds- new collab. with Rihanna, Kanye and Paul

I get the whole "having a young artist perform with a veteran artist" trip. It never jelled for me. At least Ed Sheeran performed an ELO song with ELO. At least Lady Gaga performed in Tony Bennett's genre and dressed the part and sang the part. There is a certain respect for their predecessors in this. But Paul entering into Kanye's world and making a go of it just looks silly. Especially when Kanye makes an ass of himself dissing Beck. Then, I ask myself as well, "Why, Paul? Why associate yourself with this jerk?" Never mind all the crotch grabbing and lame dancing. Yes, Michael Jackson grabbed his crotch, but he was also the best dancer on the planet, could sing the hell out of a song, even surpass Paul vocally at some turns, and could write amazing songs. And Paul was West's back up musician to boot. If he must do this sort of thing, have Paul and his band play a new McCartney song, then have West join them onstage for something.
Excellent post. I said in another thread I was wondering what Paul and Nancy thought of what Kanye did to Beck. I wish more artists including Mr. McCartney would speak out and tell Kanye to grow up and stop this nonsense !!

I get your point, but I still see it more as Kanye and Rihanna entering Paul's world stylistically than the other way around. Lots of Rihanna's fans are upset that this song sounds nothing like her usual style, saying things like, "When is the REAL first single coming?" Same with Kanye's fans.

Which means it is more confusing than ever! And maybe thought provoking? Perhaps.

________________________________________________________ Excellent post I think Paul's collaboration with Kanye will be very short-lived. Maybe it's already over (the 8 or 9 songs they supposedly cowrote). I also hope that is the case. If it is, Paul has already gotten more out of it, than he could have hope. At least a couple of the songs will get him on the charts again. Rihanna has said some very respectful things about Paul which can't hurt his reputation with the younger market. And as opinionated as Kanye is about other artists out of his genre, it shows how much respect he has for Paul. Now hopefully Paul in 2015 will start working with his own new album. If he has a guest or two for his own album, that would be fine but hopefully it will only be for his new CD. As a big time fan, that is what I hope his direction will be at this point.

Beck handled it graciously, with humility and dignity. Which just proved West wrong even more. West is a jerk. No defense from you is going to change that. He proves it over and over again.
Beck has Class. And manners. But who cares.

All very good points, and positive vibes for the future! It is still a new year, let's see what Paul has up his sleeve.

Anyone who would write that Paul was just standing there sharing the spotlight with Rihanna and Kanye for no apparent reason either doesn't like Macca or doesn't know music... Probably more the former.
I'm afraid that i'm one of those. Though i love Paul to bits and i am a classical musician, I can't help but asking "why ..why?" This appearance won't help the sales of, say, NEW (and i think he couldn't care less) It won't gain him any new fan The song is not a masterpiece worth exposing himself so much The only positive thing i find is that he abviously had a great time there and was in great shape. But i really hope he turns this page quickly :
So you don't like Macca or you don't know music? Which is it?

Listen. Kanye West gets an average of 75 Million YouTube views for each of his songs. The latest Beck tunes from that GRAMMY album get 37 Thousand views. But the views for Beck are rising since the GRAMMY incident. It works out.

What does that have to do with one artist being disrespectful to another artist? http://variety.com/2015/music/opinion/no-kanye-its-you-who-needs-to-respect-artistry-1201428662/

Kanye was not smart enough to be thankful that a Beatle would collaborate with him that he takes a golden opportunity and turns it to crap. Which is why I was right on my initial feelings of not liking him as human being. He has shown his true nature. Makes me want to download Beck's new album. And I will. And it makes me want to listen to this song in by Beck that I have loved for many years: LOSER:

Paul hasnt been a sideman in a band since John was leading the Beatles. It was wierd watching Paul on the side like that on the stage last night.
There's a very strong Ken Ehrlich influence in music these days. For those who don't know who he is, he produces the Grammy Awards show. It was his idea to put together all these random teamings and pairings on the Grammys' in recent years. These in turn have lead to collaborations in the studio such as Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga and other duets albums of recent years, and the Paul, Rihanna, Kanye teaming. I thought it was well done, a good song and excellent performance, and even Kanye didn't ruin it. I really enjoyed it, and in case anyone here really missed it, all eyes in the Staples Center were on Paul.
Paul needs to do a Duets album now. The timing is right & it will probably hit #1 and sell Platinum. He's finally making good marketing decisions this past year, for perhaps the first time in his career post-Beatles.

Beware. Beck's new album is more folk/country than anything else. Very, very mellow. Sounds nothing like his "Loser"-era work.

He's already done quite a few duets - some of which could be compiled for an album: 1. Ebony and Ivory, Paul McCartney & Stevie Wonder, 1982 2. The Girl Is Mine, Paul McCartney & Michael Jackson, 1982 3. Get It, Paul McCartney & Carl Perkins, 1982 4. My Old Friend, Paul McCartney & Carl Perkins, 1982 5. What's That You're Doing', Paul McCartney & Stevie Wonder, 1982 6. Say Say Say, Paul McCartney & Michael Jackson, 1983 7. New Moon Over Jamaica, Paul McCartney & Johnny Cash, 1988 8. You Want Her Too, Paul McCartney & Elvis Costello, 1989 9. Used to Be Bad, Paul McCartney & Steve Miller, 1997 10. A Friend Like You, Paul McCartney & Brian Wilson, 2004 11. The Very Thought of You, Paul McCartney & Tony Bennett, 2006 12. Bring It on Home to Me, Paul McCartney, George Benson & Al Jarreau [I know, this is actually a trio], 2006 13. Heal the Pain, Paul McCartney & George Michael, 2006 14. Y Not, Paul McCartney & Ringo Starr, 2010 15. Scrambled Eggs, Paul McCartney & Jimmy Fallon, 2012

Yeah, I think it's good enough to have these scattered through his career. Personally, a duets album is not on my wish list for him, and I doubt he would do it, certainly not so soon after KOTB. As much as I admire him for branching out the way he is doing right now, I think he will want to do something more rock-oriented after this year's projects. Maybe after all this attention there will even be high demand for his next rock album. Could be good!

Pretty good! I think remixes are inevitable on this track. There's so much room to play around.

I think Beck is taking the high road. Personally, I wish he would have told Kanye to get the f*** off the stage. It would have been nice if other people there that night called Kanye out for this behavior. IMO - the first time he did it to a young teen girl (Taylor Swift) at the time was IMO bullying !!

Beck is of slight stature as well. You don't see Kanye acting like that with anyone his own size or bigger. He's a coward.
