FourFiveSeconds moves from 15 to 6 on the Hot 100 and sets a number of records for McCartney. http://www.billboard.com/articles/6465909/hot-100-rihanna-kanye-west-paul-mccartney-ellie-goulding-mark-ronson Fastest Top 10 ascent for McCartney tying Ebony and Ivory - Top 10 in 3 weeks longest Gap between Top 10 hits - 29 yrs, 2 weeks. (2nd is Santana at 28 yrs, 7 mths, 2 weeks) Beatles were 5th on that list at 19yrs, 4th, 3 weeks (between Got To Get You Into My Life in 1976 and Free As A Bird 1996) Counting just his solo output, McCartney rewrites yet another mark: he expands his span of solo top 10s to a record-setting 43 years, 10 months and two weeks The song also goes to #1 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop songs. Song should hit the Top 5 last week as the period closed shortly after the Grammy's - so downloads should increase next week. RamblinRed
Still a solid #1 on iTunes, and in the Top 5 on Amazon digital downloads. Too bad it's a flop.

reaction? at first... but then...

Happy for Paul. I enjoy the song. Although only wish this could happen on a Paul solo track, as it is more due to rihanna and kanye. Ps there are unconfirmed rumours of the rolling stones being in contact with taylor swift (obviously joking here)
I guess whatever it takes to get one's name back at the top of the charts. Maybe Stravinsky should have worked with the Beatles in 1964 in order to get back in the public eye.

I like the song, if it's going to hit number 1 it'll be this upcoming week. It sounds very "McCartney" and it's certainly the first new Macca melody that my friends have really given a chance.

Hard to picture these guys wildin', but they turn the song into an a cappella singalong:
Hmm, but I kind of like this one better. No, definitely. -
I agree that Paul wrote the music to the song - the "middle eight" especially is such a Paul trademark. From Kanye's comments, I gather that the way their collaboration worked is that Paul improvised melodies on various instruments and Kanye wrote lyrics over what Paul was doing. Kanye told Ryan Seacrest that Paul brought such a great vibe to their sessions, one day a pumped Kanye started singing, "I'm about four, five seconds to wilding," which became the chorus to "FourFive Seconds." Later Kanye (who'd agree to produce Rihanna's new album) was playing some tracks for her, and mentioned his collaboration with Paul. He played her the songs and she flipped out over "FourFive Seconds" and begged to be allowed to record it as the lead single for her new album. That explains why Kanye & Paul are credited as writers on the song but Rihanna is not.

For what it's worth, I prefer this phase of Paul's to his Kisses on the Bottom phase.

I like both! But it's sad that a tune with Paul singing lead would never get this kind of attention anymore. But that's the way it is -- pop music is a youth medium and has been at least since Sinatra first burst on the scene in the 1940s.

You are correct. It is for the young.

If it goes to #1, it has to be a record for longest gap between #1's for an artist. 32 year gap!!! The video is being played non-stop on VH1. Paul comes off very cool in the video.

I can't believe so many people are still getting fished-in with Kanye West's bait. This is all hype. And all sides are benefiting: It gives him coverage, and it gives the media a new hot-topic to cover ad nauseam... ...instead of reporting news items of valuable substance. Of course, we know that corporate-media's goal is not to report real news anyway. Enough already. Stop being naive, America.
Well said, Audi. Thanks!
This pretty much validates my cynical take on all this: Kanye West & Taylor Swift Recording Music Together: "... Kanye West ... and Taylor Swift really have put their feud behind them because they are headed into the recording studio to make some beautiful music together!..." _________________________________________________________ This was never a "feud." It was publicity. And people sopped it all up with a biscuit. People really need to be more shrewd when it comes to anything covered in mass-media. Folks gotta' stop believin' the hype. http://hollywoodlife.com/2015/02/11/kanye-west-taylor-swift-recording-together-song-collaboration/

Agreed. Again I have mixed feelings. One hand I am happy to see Paul in the top ten, but I wish it was a song of his. For example I can bet was begging to be released as a single (using a recent song........) It's sad he might not get a top ten of just his solo material at all.
-
Paul McCartney's music has been utterly toxic to Top 40 radio since the late-'80s. It's as if it was against every radio-programmer's religion to add a Paul McCartney single to their rotation.

I can bet is a great song, but it wouldn't have sniffed the top 100

I thought you meant that he didn't have a top ten because he wasn't releasing the correct songs as singles.

I've made that argument in the past, but McCartney has released some good singles, too. I have since realized that, regardless, radio has had no interest in Paul McCartney's music since Flowers In The Dirt. I have lived in no less than three cities over the years, and a lot of McCartney albums were released in that time -- and, except for a Triple A station in one city, one random spin at a college-station in another and one random spin at a low-wattage station in the third city), I have never, ever heard a new Paul McCartney record on the radio.

Agreed 100%.
