FourFiveSeconds- new collab. with Rihanna, Kanye and Paul
-
The song was definately played live, though it sounded like some stuff was flown in. Off to Macca's right you could see a guitarist and bassist (and could hear the guitar clearly), off the opposite side was an organist and 2 backup singers. Macca at times seemed to be really into playing with the guitarist. Shame his mic was either off or mixed down. Kanye talked about the song before the ceremony according to Billboard. Said it was one of the songs he and Macca wrote. He then played it for Rihanna since he was executive producing her album and she told him she had to have it for her album. Makes me wonder if the version that will be on Kanye's album will be different than the version on Rihanna's. Her role was to sign the song, she had no role in the composition of the song. FWIW, I think she does an excellent job with it and I like the song alot. That and Annie Lenox were my 2 fav parts of the night. Also liked Ed Sheeran and ELO. RamblinRed

Annie Lennox was stunningly good, I thought! And I concur with all of your observations. Here's another article from Billboard, noting that "FourFiveSeconds" was the 7th most Shazamed Song, and the 4th most downloaded, during the broadcast. In fact, both new songs are in both of those top tens, and they're both in the Top 10 of their Twitter chart, too. http://www.billboard.com/articles/events/grammys-2015/6465702/most-shazamed-moments-grammys-elo-katy-perry-ed-sheeran

I don't see too many in the future having the need to say they were wrong about Kanye, or others that are his peers. It's a style of music that doesn't seem to evolve. The Beatles defined an era. Kanye and his music do not. He, Biebs, Miley and Eminem, and so many around them, are just a bulb on the great passage of light that was the Beatles, Elvis, throw in Buddy Holly, Mozart and Beethoven, and whoever came up with the theme for Hawaii Five-O. And so many others. Mr. Kardashian, and hopefully rap, will fall away and once more melody, humility and talent will reign supreme.
It's a style of music that has lasted almost four decades. How long does it have to last before people accept that it will last?
Hey, I admit I liked Rapture by Blondie!... a tinge of rap? In fact, I loved it.... and I don't mind it when it is plays a bit-part.... Epic by Faith No More was a good song... also bit of rap?.... The Peppers occasionally.... even Are You Lonesome Tonight had a spoken part to it.... ha, he was a pioneer, that fella!

... Yes, Kanye was a major d-bag for ranting about Beck's win.
And Kanye gave an interview backstage & said Beck should give the award to Beyonce. OMG. :
He is such a jerk. Now just imagine if a white artist did the same thing to a African-American artist, wonder what Kanye would think.

Annie Lennox's singing was positively amazing!! Also thought that ELO was the other highlight! I did enjoy Paul on 45 seconds ! Didn't see him on Only One, was he on stage? That floodlight that Kanye sung in reminded me of the lights on the floor for Oceans Kingdom, wonder if that was Paul's idea? One of the most enjoyable Grammys for me!

Actually, I believe they wanted to downplay it, like maybe it didn't really happen; that he wasn't up there with those two!! I think some media reports referred to Paul's being with Rihanna and Kanye on stage as being or looking "strange". If he was singing it wasn't audible. And since he doesn't sing on the recording of the song, there would be no reason for him to be singing on stage. Maybe Kanye or Rihanna told him to mouth the words, so he wouldn't look so awkward just sort of standing there sharing the spotlight with them for no apparent reason. Didn't work. Actually, his "performance" caught on camera singing along with Jeff Lynne on ELO's "Evil Woman" was MUCH better. Loved that. He was moving with the music, really into it! I can imagine Dave Grohl saying something to Paul.....after his stage "performance" on FourFiveSeconds....along the lines of..."What The F*** were you thinking???" And Paul answering: "Dunno man. Seemed like a good idea at the time." :

Love the performance of FourFiveSeconds on the Grammys but would have been way better if we could have heard Paul singing. Who turned the mic off?

Doubtful. Probably, as has already been mentioned, because he doesn't sing on it anyway. Except for those weird yelps, which I don't understand why he didn't mime those. In hindsight, they probably shouldn't have even had a mic in front of him and should have just let him strum, which is, in reality, all he does on this except for co-writing.

Great post. Simple solution would have been not to have a microphone in front of Mr. McCartney.

_____________________________________________________ Pertaining to not having the mic in the 1st place, I agree and said that earlier. As far as Paul just standing there, I totally disagree and so did Rollingstone. The guitar is seriously a very integral part of the song. RS said and I quote "PM passionately strummed the tune's propulsive riff". Anyone who would write that Paul was just standing there sharing the spotlight with Rihanna and Kanye for no apparent reason either doesn't like Macca or doesn't know music... Probably more the former. As I stated previously, I don't think Paul looked awkward at all. I thought he was loose and really into it. The song, I believe, is going to be Top 10 and Macca was obviously very intergral to its authorship. Rihanna's voice is perfect for the song which really makes it ideal for radio play. If it was Kanye's idea to give it to Rihanna, you have to give him a lot of credit for that.

http://static01.mediaite.com/med/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/mccartney.0.gif This moment just makes me love this guy even more!! LOL He was loving the song/performance (and I guess he was the only one nearby who did) when he realized the camera was on him, he got embarassed and sat down. Macca is just such a regular guy People are critizing Paul's black jacket/shirt outfit, but I thought he looked cool. Maybe on the too-casual side for the Grammys but still he looked good Nancy looked elegant as usual. I thought it was just me, that thought I couldn't hear Paul. Guess not. I wonder why they turned down his mic? If Paul doesn't sing on the song, then he should've not been given a mic to "sing" with Kanye and Rihanna. I would've liked it better if Kanye & Rihanna were upfront and Paul was in between them (a bit farther back) playing guilar and slightly behind Paul was the rest of the band. That way Paul would've been obviously present, but part of the band playing their instruments. Just my 2 cents, if I was a Stage Director The performance itself I thought was good. There was a lot of hype for it, on the pre-show I saw. I am glad it was a simple straight-forward performance, like the video for the song is. Paul didn't try to act 25 on stage with them and there was no half-naked dancers dancing around them LOL

At this point, the song is #1 on the iTunes chart, I think for the first time ever, if I'm not mistaken. ("Only One" is also moving up, through the teens.)

I ran an errand this morning, and as I was station-switching, I caught FourFive Seconds playing on KIIS-FM in LA. Afterward, the DJ and a caller spoke glowingly of the performance. parlance

I think he looked great and was into it, just a shame the mic was not on because it truly looked like he was singing and not just mouthing the words.

Kanye is an embarrassment. I'm disappointed in Paul's judgment on this collaboration. Paul needs to distance himself from the Kanye Kardashian bubble. Paul, you don't need to do this to stay relevant.
