Glen Campbell and Paul
-
Heard about Glen Campbell's passing on my way up to NJ from Florida. Maybe someone could post Glen's version of Mull of Kintyre which is wonderful. Did Paul and Glen ever meet? I believe that Paul was also a brief guest commentator on Glen's recent documentary covering his last tour with his children. Can anyone confirm. Thanks

Sorry, I've been off the Site for a couple of days and just noticed that Mr. Campbell's video of Mull of Kintyre has already been posted on another Forum. Just watched it and Glen had a perfect voice for "Mull". The video also shows that he was a very versatile musician.

Paul's cameo in the documentary about Glen lasts about 15 seconds. It shows Paul greeting Glen backstage at the Grammys and telling him, "I was rocking out to 'Rhinestone Cowboy'!" (which Glen played on the show.) Paul then said, "I just wanted to come back and tell you how much I love you!" It was sad because Glen clearly didn't remember who Paul was, though he was perfectly polite and warm.

__________________________________________________________ Thanks for the info Soymilk. I thought that Paul was on the Documentary albeit very short. I couldn't believe how great Glen sounded on Mull of Kintyre. Almost like the song was made for Glen's voice. It would be very cool if Glen's children put "Mull" out as a single in honor of their Dad. I do think that it has potential on one of the charts like Adult Contemporary or even Country. It does show that Glen back in the day liked Paul's music.

And while I knew Campbell was an accomplished musician, I had no idea he could play bagpipes!!!

_____________________________________________________ Bruce, I think you know a lot more about the various music charts than I do. I couldn't believe how well Glen sounded singing Mull of Kintyre. Since "Mull" barely made the charts back in the day in the US, do you think Glen's children should put it out as a single. I'm thinking there may be a couple of chart categories (e.g. Adult Contemporary, one of the Country charts) where it could have some success. I actually think Glen sings it better than the original. Of course Glen's children would have to take the first step. Do you think they should?

Which link are ya'all looking at?

Thanks for posting that link Nancy! Have heard the bagpipes are difficult to learn and those sounded really great!!! He must have really loved that song, to learn the bagpipes as well. Maybe he's Scottish

Nancy R:
Thanks Nancy for the You Tube video. It was nice to see the full video with Glen introducing the song and mentioning Paul. I saw an article about Glen's daughter and the song and letter she wrote for her Dad. I think it was from Rolling Stone Magazine. Anyway, I sent a comment to her about what a great musician her Dad was and the thought of releasing "Mull" as a tribute song for her Dad. He sings it amazingly well.

With the last name of "Campbell" I would certainly think so!

Interesting idea. I doubt it would be a hit beyond nostalgia interest for a small group of fans, but it would be lovely to see. I don't really know what country radio plays these days, but my educated guess is that it's not songs by guys of Glen's and Paul's vintage (not unlike Top 40 radio).

Didn't he used to play bagpipes on "Amazing Grace" in concert? He probably took up the pipes for that one.

I saw Paul in the audience singing along to "Like a Rhinestone Cowboy" when Glenn Campbell came out on stage singing it and made quite an impressive showy entrance, on the Grammys I think it was. On T.V.

I was thinking it was on Glen Campbell's "farewell" special, but I could be "misremembering."
