What’s your favorite 3 album run from Macca?
-
Michelley:
Well I'm sure both Audi and Kapoo will come after me with a pitchfork for saying this, but I don't consider "live" albums to be real albums anyway. Harrumph. So my favorite 3 album run: OK that last one is a stretch. I like Wild Life but don't love it. It's just that I had a hard time finding 3 straight studio albums in a row that I liked. I love Chaos and Electric Arguments but not MAF. I like Flaming Pie and Run Devil Run but not Driving Rain (in fact, I pretty much hate Driving Rain, both the album and the weather variety). Now I'll run for cover.
I'm not a big live album fan either. Tripping is a really great quality live album with a lot of songs and great performances of said songs, as is WOA. and the production of WOA is actually quite dirty and bass heavy which I like, and Paul sings his butt off. but other than that I really am a studio versions/album guy. I really like McCartney/RAM/Wild Life as well. its tough, do you shift it up to lose McCartney and trade for RRS? thats a tough call for me, I prob would cause I like RRS so much. but thats about equal. and MIA sort of leans it towards McCartney. I think I voted RRS, BOTR, V&M for mine, that would still hold true. but I do like the semi-recent stuff, Chaos (ok) /MAF/EA. I prob said already but BTTE/M2/Tug of War is nice too, maybe my 2nd fav. or 3rd behind the one you said. If you try to actually count all releases, this game does get tough. easy for people that like classical, or techno I guess. or live albums. but Paul's so eclectic you hardly have any 3 straight rock albums to look at after Wings. I've never been a huge fan of DR either. I kind of respect Paul's percision writing and getting some cool sounds, but there's not actually a great song on it. Heather is one of the best for me. Something about Tiny Bubble I like too.

Tough one Kapoo! but it would be either Red Rose Speedway Band on the Run Venus and Mars or Speed of Sound London Town Back to the Egg Can I just have ALL six?
-
btw audi, thats actually a good call for me, and the albums I first got into Paul, that was an early one I often forget. I really liked it when it came out. it actually made me want to play acoustic guitar more! always thought Paul and his band at that time, just nailed some of those songs, like Blue Moon of Kentucky. His vocal and the tempo, its all perfect. ![](http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/8/89/ChobaCover.jpg/220px-ChobaCover.jpg[/img] [img]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/d/de/PMUnpluggedCover.jpg/220px-PMUnpluggedCover.jpg"/> I basically got introduced to solo Macca during a really 'live' period I remember him feeling so much more rock that the Flowers album might lead one to believe, having sort of been introduced to it in the context of of the other stuff he was doing around it.

At the time, it was BIG deal that Macca did Unplugged. I made damn sure that I was all done with studying EARLY so I could guard the television in the Student Center at my college -- no way in hell I was gonna' miss it. Before Paul did the show, I was already blown away by Aerosmith's Unplugged set, and when I saw the preview of Macca's, I nearly lost it. I'm sure most of you know that only 250,000 copies of the album were released June '91 -- I was first in line that Tuesday morning.

I was aware that it was limited release. My Dad managed to get himself a copy of the CD, which I still have someplace. Wondering now maybe I should keep a little better track of it. Would be a very nice addition to the vinyl collection. Paul's banter too during that show does seem relaxed and unrehearsed. even in the lyrical gaff between Blue Moon and We Can Work It Out, maybe I'm niave but that seemed unrehearsed. 'can I get some more of those Ooo Ooo's and Yeah Yeah's!' that was just a cool performance. they should show it more on all the unplugged re-runs I see.

Still a favorite. I think it was a genuine blooper. However, he "forgot" the lyrics to "We Can Work It Out" when I saw him in Memphis '93. He'd mentioned forgetting it on Unplugged during the concert. Could've been another one of those "deliberate mistakes" Paul likes to warn us about.

with in between close second (some may call it cheating a bit, but "Снова в СССР" wasn't released worldwide until 1991 ops: )

Good call on your first selection, including WOA. I can't argue on those, love em, although I think LT is Wings weakest effort. and tremendous use of album cover pics I must say a couple good singles in there too. but I was just reading back in this thread and wingsdgm made an amazing call on the singles released between RRS, BOTR and V&M. that period was REALLY good. with the singles its like no contest. I love Goodnight Tonight and the groove and the production, but Mull of Kintyre is like a gimmick song for me. amazing how well it did commercially. its good, but for me it just goes to show I personally would suck as a record exec trying to say whats commercial

Me, too. That's what made me include the singles. The B-sides "Girls' School" and "Daytime Nightime Suffering" are worth noting too. "London Town" has a special place in my heart/ears. I always listen to the whole album from start to finish when I listen to it. I always skip songs on "Venus and Mars " and "Speed of Sound". Otherwise the most "logic" choice would be BOR, VAM, SOS.

I think Paul was really almost panic-striken for a second there when he messed up WCWIO for the 2nd time! Then he asks the audience "Do you want to sing it?" I think inside he was really nervous until he finally got it right. In '93 if he messed it up again, then it could have been deliberate.
-
Hmm, I think every tour he made the deliberate mistake, maybe it was genuine first time around. It works as a pun on "You can get it wrong and still you think that it's alright...". Ever thought of that? 3 in a row is a tough one...

Testament to Paul! And I know many agree with you that his latest set of album has been as good as anything he's done solo. I think those are solid picks. And I've only listened to it once really, but Oceans Kingdom has some really interesting music on it

They are very solid picks! Ocean's Kingdom is great... and I listen to it quite a bit. Saw the ballet in NYC and was hoping there would be a DVD...sorry there wasn't, my seat was too far away to really enjoy the costumes and ballet as much as I would have liked, but of course I was there for the music and that was fantastic!
