What’s your favorite 3 album run from Macca?
-
Driving Rain Chaos and Creation in the Backyard Memory Almost Full
-
McCartney Ram Wild Life. I suppose. But... London Town Back to the Egg McCartney 11 ...runs a close second.
-
If you could choose a 3 album run after when they were recorded, how about Abbey Road, McCartney and Ram?
-
If it was a ten album run I could narrow it down a bit.
-
Same as Squid..
-
This is a though one, but I go with: LONDON TOWN - BACK TO THE EGG - MCCARTNEY II And second comes: Chaos - Memory Almost Full - Electric Arguments And for the third place: Ram - Wild Life - Red Rose Speedway
-
I suppose the last three albums were my favourites, I wouldn't count the Beatles albums though as that was also John and George helping out and they were at the peak of their powers, however if I could I would include Rubber Soul-Revolver-Sgt Pepper. Three of the greatest albums ever made!
-
The first 3 would be RRS, BotR, and V&M. The second 3 would be Flowers in the Dirt, Off The Ground, and Flaming Pie.Finally I would say Chaos and Creation..., Memory Almost Full, and his next studio album. Why? Because The Fireman is not technically a McCartney release, and because based on the last two, I think his next record will be amazing!

Danish Macca:
I'll pick the run of Flaming Pie, Run Devil Run, Driving Rain, Chaos, MAF and Electric Arguments as the strongest run in his career with Rubber Soul, Revolver, Sgt. Pepper, Magical, White Album and Abbey Road as a close second.. Okay I know, I left Yellow Submarine out in the last one..
I'll agree with this except I'll give the nod to the Beatles ones with the Pie - Arguments run second. I think you're right on the money as far as his post-Beatles work, and love that someone else agrees that his late career resurgence is seeing him make very consistently good albums.

i always thought 'rubber soul' didnt have enough 'mccartney' tunes on it for me..its alright ,but 'revolver' is miles better.they got the balance right on thast one.

i think that I like some of the beatles as well i think that It would be fun to hear things off the Hey Jude Album too as with the White album mixed in with ram and a couple of other McCartney albums and some John Lennon, and Harrison as well single. Makes for a great play list love doris

I'm going to go with Ram, Wild Life, and Red Rose Speedway. These three definitely stand out for me, but if I could choose more, I think I'd take the whole run from McCartney to Venus and Mars!

I was just reading a review of Driving Rain on AllMusic.com by Stephen Thomas Erlewine (his reviews of Paul's work tend to be thoughtful and fair). Anyway, I was reading along and Erlewine says something directly relevant to this thread:
As the record (Driving Rain) draws to a conclusion, he hauls out a bunch of inventive, winding jams that may be a little excessive, yet they're exciting because he hasn't tried something like this in years. He's grooving on making music again, just like he did on Flaming Pie and Run Devil Run. Driving Rain may not be as coherent as Pie, nor as relentless as Devil, but it's rich, layered, ambitious, and successful. Since becoming a solo artist, Paul McCartney has never delivered three records in a row so overstuffed with imagination, melody, and enthusiasm as he has in these three albums.
So there you have it. The best three in a row in this guy's view: Flaming Pie, Run Devil Run, and Driving Rain. Here's the link to the full review: http://www.allmusic.com/album/driving-rain-r557359/review
I think you'll find Stephen Thomas Erlwine loves Chaos and MAF too, so that's five in a row. http://www.allmusic.com/album/chaos-and-creation-in-the-backyard-r787157/review http://www.allmusic.com/album/memory-almost-full-r1067283

That's areally tough one! Probably Flaming Pie right through to Electric Arguments for me. Driving Rain is probably my least favourite of the bunch but I rediscovered it recently and I'm much more fond of it now than I was before.
-
I'd say... Band on The Run-Venus and Mars-Wings at The Speed of Sound!

I know it's too each his/her own, but I'm always amazed at the opposition to MAF. No biggie, just surprises me since I love it so much If I had to pick a three-album run, I'd probably go with Chaos/MAF/EA. He's had stronger albums, sometimes two stronger ones in a row, but I honestly feel that this has been his most consistently great run of at least three albums since the Beatles disbanded.
My problem with MAF is the sound (plus a couple of bad songs). I still like most of the tracks but can't listen to more than 4 or 5 songs at a time before I have to put on an album like Chaos or Flowers. As far as my run of 3 I'll go with RRS, Band on the Run and V&M.

I?m with you there. This is the run that began my deep dive into Paul?s solo catalogue ![](http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/8/89/ChobaCover.jpg/220px-ChobaCover.jpg[/img] [img]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/7/7c/TrippingLiveCover.jpg/220px-TrippingLiveCover.jpg"/> I love those album covers

I?ve come to the conclusion that I?m not a huge fan of Paul?s ?original rock? or ?pop? songs.. but this 4 album run blew my socks clean off. Viva la 1999. ![](http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/9/9f/StandingStoneCover.jpg/220px-StandingStoneCover.jpg[/img] [img]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/3/35/LPCCover.jpg/220px-LPCCover.jpg"/> In all honesty, the music in those 4 albums is pretty incredible. talk about diversity. all from the mind of the man. kurrrrazy.!
-
Ram is my favourite album but Im not a huge fan of Wild Life so with that I would go with Red Rose Speedway, Band On The Run, Venus & Mars as his strongest 3 consecutive albums.
-
Flowers In The Dirt Off The Ground Flaming Pie 3 superb albums imo
