Why doesn't Paul write a book on songwriting?

Paul is a strong believer that songwriting is a gift and songs come out of thin air. I have heard him say this more than once.
True he is a receiver of melodies from air.. there is no principle, no logic unless you are talking about theory which is not what make a song successful
After listening to some of his recent melodies...I reckon he needs to find some cleaner air!!!
Mel-odious?

Even so, he's still the most successful composer of all time.

On a technical level, Paul's musical-vocabulary is too limited to sustain a whole book. He can't read music. He refuses to learn how. And let's not even get into music theory. Paul speaks a rocker's language, which is enough for fellow play-by-ear musicians like myself who are in awe of his mere prolificity.
With the aforementioned said: I believe that the best way to learn from Macca might be in a hands-on, one-on-one situation. I imagine that if someone presented an unfinished, finished or nearly finished song to him, there is no doubt in my mind that he could keenly spot the strengths and weaknesses -- as well as what the song is missing and what needs to go. Writing is 50/50 creativity and skill -- the skill component is acquired by some faster than others. He's got that skill -- after all, he learned from one of the best: George Martin. For example, it was Martin's suggestion that "Can't buy Me Love" kick off with the chorus. More recently, Memory Almost Full includes some of the most concisely air-tight songs of his career.

I'd like to get a little "hands-on, one-on-one" with Paul! Sorry, but you left yourself wide open for that!

...and I have a line but I cannot use it!

I think HIS Nancy would have a thing or two to say about that!

I knew you (or audi) would, that's why I phrased it like I did!

Of course! That was just my fantasy (and has been since 1964!)

This is a cool video about songwriting by Neil Finn, someone who knows how to compose:

Wake me up when you find a similar vid with Barry Gibb...at least Barry has an accent that I can understand...and a catalogue worth talking about.

I'm starting to think you don't rate Neil Finn!..... I think he was completely on his game in those latter Split Enz years up to those first three Crowded House albums..... I rate him... he created some absolute gems!... good memories for me!
-
As I stated earlier I only like early (and some later) Split Enz. I loathe Crowded House.

Well, I'll give you that Barry Gibb could write a tune. I love the Bee Gees! Listen to this Barry Gibb song, bet you'll like it!

I love Crowded House so much I am certain it cancels out your hatred of them.

I think he's too busy. I also think he would really not give away secrets about the process. His best work as with any artist is pure clear inspiration. His gift as he calls it. No one can match Paulie's gift for melody.
