Paul's New Album-- "New"-- CONFIRMED

From what I read on this board earlier, think the youtube response has been good.
The video is now up to more than 360,000 views -- in 24 hours. That's great, although it's not Katy Perry/One Dimension/Lady Gaga numbers. But it is great for a new single from a 71-year-old artist. I think this New single is just meant to promote that Paul has a new album coming. I doubt he or any of his people are seriously expecting this to make the charts although Paul will, as usual, make an effort. But if David Bowie's first single didn't make the singles charts in the US, despite lots of publicity and the huge surprise factor, I don't see how Paul's new song will chart. (I think Bowie's first single also didn't chart in the US because Billboard wouldn't count it, as it was offered free if you pre-ordered the album. But none of Bowie's other singles charted in the U.S.) Bowie's first single from his new album hit No. 6 in the UK but that was only for nostalgia reason, and because of the massive fawning publicity and praise he got when it was released, motivated by the fact that people thought he was on death's door and would never release new music again. None of Bowie's other singles charted above No. 40 in the UK, and most didn't chart at all anywhere but in the UK. I'm happy to be wrong about New making the top 100 charts. But for me, I'm just enjoying this lovely tune and hoping it means the rest of the album will be as good or better.

What did Amazon say the DELUXE Edition included. How much was it to pre-order?
Not much. But the iTunes Brazil deluxe edition that some people were linking to has 14 tracks instead of 12. Here's the Amazon link: http://www.amazon.com/New-Deluxe-Edition-Paul-McCartney/dp/B00EUS9JF0/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1377828394&sr=8-4&keywords=paul+mccartney+new+deluxe+edition parlance
Thank you for the link. I've been searching this thread for one. When I went to amazon myself, nothing came up. Now who is going to have that one special version with that extra song or DVD? BEst BUy?

With so many posts about the 'New' album its hard to keep up so this info may have already been posted....... There are 12 tracks on the 'New' album, the title track being track 6. The shortest track is the opening song which lasts 2:39 whilst the longest song is the final track which lasts 4:36 Mick Ronson is the producer of the 'New' single.

I was just in a Best Buy, and they have almost no CDs left at all. New releases featured down one side of the aisle, and a smattering of catalog and a few boxed sets down the other side. I would bet on Target again, not that I really want all these variations again, although I know there will be! And yes, the vinyl is available for pre-order on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/New-Vinyl-Paul-McCartney/dp/B00EUS9JNW.

I agree, doubt the single will make the charts but it would be nice. I am kind of expecting the album to make top 10 when it is released in October. How long it stays on the charts is another matter. (maybe 2-3 weeks).

"Kisses" stayed on the charts for a couple of months, if I recall correctly, due to his constant promotion. I think "New" should easily last into the new year, because I think he'll be promoting it even more relentlessly, and then the holiday shopping season will keep it afloat for a bit.

I like the song.

On iTunes the Deluxe Edition of "NEW" you can preorder...and get the song "NEW" for free...contains 14 tracks, the last of which lasts 6:15. Not sure why he just doesn't include all 14 songs on "regular" album issue and not make us buy the extra two in a deluxe-edition form. The Deluxe edition on Amazon is much more expensive at the moment..to preorder...but the price will come down when shipment time arrives.

Let's hope that radio gets behind this great track.

It's been 24 hours already! Is it time to change the title? I think I'm on my hundredth listen. Podgie (still 2 opposible thumbs up from me) Monkey

WixRocks!:
I could hear this getting airplay on our "Lite FM" station...they play pop music from the 60's to modern. It's pretty interesting. They played "Ever Present Past" when MAF came out.
The "lite rock" station in my city is one of the three stations I'd emailed yesterday, requesting the song. As much as I despise listen-while-you-work radio stations*, they do have their place. Still, most of them are corporate-controlled with very little difference in playlists from one city to another. *=if I never hear Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'" again, that'll still be too soon for me.

That made me laugh. Glad there was no food in my mouth!

In a word.........MONEY. Thanks for the info. I don't do 'downloads' and will no doubt buy the 'physical deluxe' edition. But there are so many albums that I have to buy this autumn that 'New' is in a queuing system so hopefully it will have dropped in price by the time I get round to buying it.
-
Since we already know that there's a deluxe version, I may just hold off until it is, for sure, available. I've grown a bit tired of buying two and three versions of the same album.
-
iTunes chart update: Single is #143, down a bit from this morning Album is #50, down from around #35 this morning The weekend could change things, though. And after the holiday, the promotion will probably kick into high gear. I have a feeling there'll be another new single by the time the album comes out, something more modern.
-
I have crafty methods of obtaining an mp3 rip from the youtube post of the NEW song. Sounds great on the headphones. I'll be the first day buyer for the Deluxe Edition.

My thoughts on the song: 1) I love it, but it doesn't feel like a single for today's market. I can easily hear it piping out of office speakers and malls, etc., but it doesn't fit into today's charts. Someone brought up Bublé's "Haven't Met You Yet"; yes, similar thing, bouncy and fun, but didn't hit the top of the charts, although you can hear it everywhere you go. 2) I notice it's on iTunes only as an album track, and not as a stand-alone single too, as you would expect for a true single, so maybe this is more of a "preview" track after all. 3) Seems to function the same way as the title track of "Flaming Pie": a jaunty little self-referential number, tucked at the end of Side One. (Yes, I do think there'll be vinyl of the 12-track album!) 4) People keep mentioning the Beach Boys in the harmonies at the end, but I don't really hear that so much. They were more about a laid-back California vibe; this seems more like olde traditional English, like a cappella caroling almost (kind of like what "Glee" does in between scenes), and certainly Baroque touches! 5) Again, I love it! It's aimed straight at Paul/Beatles fans, and it's instantly memorable!
Indulge me! No one refuted any of this.
- Yes I love it single smingle tho... not so concerned about that, it's a great preview that makes me look forward to pre-purchasing the album, probably the deluxe... now I'm waiting for the dust to settle to decide which version. I do really look forward to hearing it playing in the above mentioned places and also on my local radio station!! I am going to request this at my local stations and mainly Sirrius/XM.. http://www.siriusxm.com/contactus notice song requests mid page. it is most definitely bouncy and fun...in my family we call that Happy Music and the Beatles and Paul figured largely in that! 2) Yes it seems to be a preview, and a great one at that... 3)Also hope it goes vinyl, for my collection! Flaming Pie is one of my favs, so I'm expecting this to be one of my newest favs Can't wait to hear it! 4)Hmmmm I do like your assessment here... "this seems more like olde traditional English, like a cappella caroling almost (kind of like what "Glee" does in between scenes), and certainly Baroque touches!" Yes, I'm moving to this That's our Paul!! He's so good isn't he Love Baroque!! 5)Spot on!! I love it too!!! As far as the album cover, James has used the Qian symbol (in place of the E) on a couple of his albums... So I'm going with the translation of Qian/Heaven on this new album cover! That's what I'm thinking, anyway http://www.yijing.nl/i_ching/trigrams/1-qian.htm
