Paul's New Album-- "New"-- CONFIRMED

Bruce M.:
Some interesting reactions to "New" -- 1) A rapturous review by a self-described 23-year-old: http://www.underthegunreview.net/2013/08/30/single-review-paul-mccartney-new/ 2) A nice round up of press reactions, including the Telegraph in Britain, Billboard and Rolling Stone: http://www.theweek.co.uk/music/54874/paul-mccartney-reprises-beatles-new-single
Nice, thanks! I followed the one link from the second article to this one, which talks about the possibility of UK live dates by the end of the year. (There have been rumors of US and European dates, but nothing from Paul himself on those that I've seen.). Japanese dates are already booked, as fans probably know. http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/music/news/sir-paul-mccartney-releases-new-single-and-album-title-8789273.html

E-bay is currently offering a limited number of "NEW" cds by Paul (issued in Japan) that will include 4 bonus tracks...16 total. That's two more tracks than the US deluxe version.

I'm nervous about the video. The words "Paul" and "video" haven't always made for a good combination. I'm still loving the song. I do wish Paul had used the opportunity of a New album to do a bit of a new image change. It would have been a perfect time to stop dyeing his hair and get a decent hair cut. Sigh. I like the New song a lot, and the Twitter campaign was clever, but a new look for him would have been great and instead that photo Mary did just showed the same old, same old, with hair that looked dyed too dark. But heck, it's the song that counts, right? And the song is so lovely.

Not to go too off subject with the song but I agree with you. His hair is way to shaggy. He should let it grow out long like other men do that are older and a lighter shade. Back to the song..it stay with me. I can have the jingle in my head when not listening to it, so thats good, its catchy. I think the intro is to simple, too much like something he has done. But a very good song.

Hey, anyone else do some Sherlock Holmes analyzing of the instagram photo Paul posted? I looks like the NEW logo itself is hollow, a cutout, of white posterboard, and there is a photo underneath. At first look, it just looks like white glare from a camera flash. Hmmm...but no...replace the white with a dark color, blow it up a bit, and the photo is more apparent. To me it looks like someone taking Paul's photograph. That's my guess. Here's the backup for my guess: Podgie's Photo Capture- Click Here Any other thoughts? Or guesses? Podgie (Feeling like Jonny Quest today) Monkey
To me seems like I Ching signs, but I checked it...and didn't found none like NEW's sign. An other guess is looks like the "pattern" that TV used when the broadcast was ended

As a older man but a bunch younger than McCartney, I don't color my hair and it is probably 75% grey. I went to a shorter cut a few years ago and think it just fits older men. I had my years when my hair was down past my shoulders but understood I am not in my 20's anymore and what looked good then would not look good now. Actually, I remember a picture of McCartney on the 93 tour and his hair was grey then and thought he looked great. As for the song, very catchy and perfect for the end of summer. Can picture listening to it on the radio in the car while driving to the beach - lol

He seemed to be going gray even before that, for Unplugged, as I recall. I like the fact that people like James Taylor and David Byrne just let nature take its course! Back to the song, I've probably listened to it at least a dozen times already, but other than that, it's constantly in my head. I'm with Michelley on the video: a little nervous; hope he comes up with something cool and original (not like "Nod Your Head"!).

Someone didn't like the photo for the promotion of the album.

But that should tell you something, doesn't it? And my point was relevant. Paul has a fresh New song and a fresh New album. This would have been a great opportunity to turn the page on more than a decade of abuse over his hair, and go for a New sophisticated gray-haired look. That would have been a great way to promote New, and would have generated photos and coverage everywhere mentioning the New album. But what do I know?
-
Let's be realistic. Paul is not going to "go grey" until he stops being in the public eye, which will probably be the day he dies. (which I hope is a long time from now) BTW, I love New!

The symbol doesn't look like NEW to me. As a matter of fact, I think if you can see the letter N in three bars, the symbol could be quite confusing. Podgie (I think I'll wait) Monkey

Has anyone seen Liverpudlian Thomas McConnell's cover of "NEW"??? Here it is for anyone who's interested:
This kid does his own original stuff, too, and it's quite good:

When the colour of his hair is infinitely more interesting than his 'New' single......certainly.

I recommend looking for III O in front of the symbol, and a stick figure with a dress. Podgie (Or take a chance. Knock first, if there's no response walk in, if there is no urinals you are safe.) Monkey

It's an optical illusion, isn't it? I like the concept a lot. You can see in it what you want to see. I see New. But you could play with it in all sorts of ways.

It's No. 27 on Amazon now. Great for a pre-order with no details.
