I am really surprised to read such negative reactions to the video. I think it's a hoot. Very nicely photographed. Paul looks great. The video is strange and surprising. I think it's cool that Paul is an apparent source of some reverence in the video (as he should be). To my mind, he is finally receiving the respect he deserves. I have no problem with celebrities being in the video. Paul is a celebrity, after all. Celebrities now find it "cool" to be in a McCartney video, because Paul is cool. Full stop. Think of all the years he was regarded as so unhip. Paul is now regarded by many as the coolest artist on the planet, and it's about time. Plus, Queenie Eye is an absolutely killer song. Outstanding.
It definitely changes the way I think of the song, and not in a good way. Almost like some in joke/message between celebrities?? not at all the picture I had prior, and it's just weak. However I won't let the video ruin the jam for me, I'll live
It's not an in joke between celebrities. Some people in the video are celebrities. Others are not celebrities. The viewer is wondering who's who but Paul, at the center, doesn't even know they're there. We're just watching a bunch of people enjoy the song and react exactly how they would if they were alone in their room dancing to the song. The celebrities are no different to the "regular" folks. Absolutely killer song. I just don't get why people are so up in arms about what I view as a fairly subtle, quiet video.
Yes, that is exactly what I took away from it. And I wondered if each celebrity was watched when they first listened to Queenie Eye and asked to replicate it on the video. Most of them couldn't have been too exposed to the song before hand. Johnny Depp is deep in it. Sean Penn is heads down really into it. Meryl is dancing like a lunatic. Tracy Ullman doing some funky hand jive. I think their presence in the video represents how they enjoy the music in private. No one sees each other. Paul doesn't see anyone. But everyone is a huge Paul fan and loving the song. I thought it was fun. I can't help but dancing to the song, I absolutely love it. I probably look like Meryl Streep when I'm jamming it at home while doing laundry.
I thought it was fun and enjoyed seeing all the other people. The ladies in my life enjoyed Johnny Depp so everyone had something in it to enjoy in addtion to the song. Will it make a difference in the charts, have no idea because video's are not "events" like they were in the MJ days .

A sexy chick dancing seductively on top of a piano. Subtle. But I'm with ya' on the track. Love it. And I still think it was a great choice for a single.

I'm liking it (the video and especially the song) more and more. Not everyone seems to agree it was a great choice for a single, but there's definitely general fan consensus that it's one of the best few songs on the album! (Judging by the thread devoted to picking favorites.)

I was disappointed in it. To keep those fan volunteers waiting 9 hours to dance in it; I thought it would really be something. The way it was filmed with people appearing when the camera was on Paul, it could have been shot in 15 minutes! Shows those Hollywood-types aren't so great in my book!

Notice so far, two ironics PETER BLAKE, the man who created the Sgt Pepper Beatles' album cover ALICE EVE, whose mother and father are actors Sharon Mughan and Trevor Eve. Alice's mother, Sharon appeared in those Taster Choice coffee commercials (ala soap opera/love relations format) in the U.S.A. with actor Anthony Head ("Buffy the Vanpire Slayer," TV series). Trevor had a few appearances in those commercials playing the ex-husband. Anthony Head's brother is actor/singer/songwriter, MURRAY HEAD ("One Night in Bangkok"). Murray Head was one of the stars (uncredited) of a 1966 movie called "THE FAMILY WAY" featuring music composed by PAUL McCARTNEY.

A friend emailed me his thoughts about the "Queenie Eye" video, which he liked OK, but he added: "I thought Bowie did the celebrity thing well in two of the videos for his (seriously great) The Next Day earlier this year. See: "The Stars Are Out Tonight" and "The Next Day" if you missed them." I've just watched Bowie's "The Stars Are Out Tonight" for the first time since it came out -- it's just a bit too creepy for me; nonetheless, it's a brilliant video. I like the video. It's just a video, it's not supposed to be anything more than that. Essentially, it is Paul lip-syncing to his song, with a bunch of people jamming to it in their own way. What's the big deal?

You can blame Mary's husband for all of this if you need to blame someone, however my daughter is a film maker and it took her 10 hours to shoot a 6 minute short. All of the people were on the set for the whole time. It is a long process. You shoot the same thing over and over and then you edit it down. It's not as simple as the finished product looks.

For starters, it doesn't live up to all the hype, not to mention that ridiculous teaser. And celebrities just don't impress me. Quite the opposite, actually. Granted, it's absurd that a musician has to paint a picture to accompany his music in the first place, but it's part of the business. And, basically, Paul phoned-in his performance. "Beautiful Night," "Your Loving Flame," "Lonely Road" and "Ever Present Past" were much better music-videos.

I guess he only has himself/the Beatles to blame for that

As it stands the vid is an extremely small deal IMO. Should have could have been a much bigger deal. And that's my problem with it, I think it had a lot of potential. But glad you and others like it. People are citing seeing Paul and Giles together in Studio 2 as enough to make it a successful video for them?? Man you guys are easy, I wish that did it for me.

Well, if the video was more to your liking, does that mean it would get more exposure, or be more successful? I think not. All I meant is, it is what it is. A "better" video would not change anything. IMO.

That's like saying better songs wouldn't change a bad album.

Nirvana had some great videos. A lot of bands from that period. Kurt actually drew his own storyboards and stuff, they were completely his vision. And visually very stimulating. I wonder if Paul did that kind of thing for Queenie Eye, ie came up with that idea himself. I admit Michelleys post made me no longer detest the vid in the same way I first did, but it's still not something I'd ever go and rewatch. And I do rewatch good videos now and then.

Seriously, you should still do the best work you can at all times. And I think a really good video could have had an impact in building interest in the song/album. And if not, it could have been something that people would want to check out again as again. I could be wrong but that video is forgettable IMO.

Fair enough. Supposedly NEW has better songs. Did it make it a no. 1 album?
-
No, but it made it, yet, another recent Paul McCartney album to receive rave critical reviews. That didn't happen so much in the '70s and '80s.

Obviously Paul has earned the right to do what ever he likes in a video; as for any artist. There must be something I'm not looking too deep into and maybe it is what it is; however I don't get having the actress from "She's Out of My League" laying on the piano. Is having actresses and other celebrities in the video validating Paul's releavance? That's the only thing bugging me about it. He can have Al Pacino in the video for all I care BUT only if there seems to be a story line within. This video, from my perspective, does not have any meaning other than cameos of who's who. I was fine with Dance Tonight (with Natalie Portman) and My Valentine (with Portman and Depp) - but this one got to me as well as it did to a few others. Everyone has an opinion and some will agree and others won't - this is just my feeling. I suppose it is making us talk and critique even the smallest details. Hey it worked. I love ths song but just a little confused on product placement.

I think the celebrities serve two purposes: 1) buzz and a video that has you guessing who is who 2) Paul's music still reaches a wide audience - young, old, celebrity, common folk, rich, poor, etc. The celebrities genuinely are Paul's fans. This is how they probably would react in private hearing the song. Notice that no one looks at Paul. The music is making them act that way, not his celebrity or being in Studio two. Celebrities not noticing the biggest musical celebrity ever, but instead enjoying his song, just like everyone else.
