Good point.

Obviously Paul has earned the right to do what ever he likes in a video; as for any artist. There must be something I'm not looking too deep into and maybe it is what it is; however I don't get having the actress from "She's Out of My League" laying on the piano. Is having actresses and other celebrities in the video validating Paul's releavance? That's the only thing bugging me about it. He can have Al Pacino in the video for all I care BUT only if there seems to be a story line within. This video, from my perspective, does not have any meaning other than cameos of who's who. I was fine with Dance Tonight (with Natalie Portman) and My Valentine (with Portman and Depp) - but this one got to me as well as it did to a few others. Everyone has an opinion and some will agree and others won't - this is just my feeling. I suppose it is making us talk and critique even the smallest details. Hey it worked. I love ths song but just a little confused on product placement.
I think the celebrities serve two purposes: 1) buzz and a video that has you guessing who is who 2) Paul's music still reaches a wide audience - young, old, celebrity, common folk, rich, poor, etc. The celebrities genuinely are Paul's fans. This is how they probably would react in private hearing the song. Notice that no one looks at Paul. The music is making them act that way, not his celebrity or being in Studio two. Celebrities not noticing the biggest musical celebrity ever, but instead enjoying his song, just like everyone else.
Plus the song is about fame and those who try to profit from it, and the whole game surrounding it. Makes more sense to me since Michelley's post.

True. I did read into the lyrics that it was about HM specifically (and her love of celebrity) and Paul being alone through that fiasco despite being a massive celebrity. In the end his own celebrity didn't shield him from the ugliness, but he got through it. I guess looking at some of the stars in the video you can spot some that are consistently targeted by tabloids for their personal life. And two (Depp and Moss) that were targeted when they were together. Others (Streep and Ullman) just seem like huge fans.

Paul wears sandals A LOT! Or even goes barefoot. Just be glad that it wasn't these: (notice the heartshaped freckle?) He must hate shoes.
Unfortunately I doubt that's a freckle--more like an age spot!

His sandals have made it big! http://uk.omg.yahoo.com/gossip/110--pop/paul-mccartney-queenie-eye-meryl-streep-johnny-depp-11-bizarre-moments-141430489.html
I must admit, that was a funny article!

It's an OK kinda video but nothing will beat 'Press' on the London Underground back in '86, for me D I used to say Queenio Queenio who's got the ball, see I haven't got it etc. Maybe I've been saying it wrong all these years oops Is 'What's the Time Mr. Wolf'' correct? Perhaps I've been saying that wrong too ?

You're probably right and Paul as usual "remembered" it wrong!!

No, but it made it, yet, another recent Paul McCartney album to receive rave critical reviews. That didn't happen so much in the '70s and '80s.
Yes, but a great video won't make a difference. If it was 1985, then yeah, sure. But in this musical climate.
-
Notice Paul can't see the celebrities, fans etc. I'm starting to believe this song has more to do with the vapidness of the celebrity cult and the way the media behaved at a certain 'painful time.' I'm taking Paul's usual 'its only a kids game' explanation is to cover a more sophisticated meaning.

Agreed! That one is probably my favorite Paul video! Were you there that day?

At the time, I guess that I was too young to make the connection on what a big, big deal it was for Paul to be riding public transportation. I appreciate the "Press" video much, much more today.

Agreed! That one is probably my favorite Paul video! Were you there that day? No... I wish - would have loved to have given him that massage D How many of Paul's videos have us fans appearing? Did the 'Take It Away' video with John Hurt, have 'proper' fans in the audience?

I wish I were there! But, again, at the time I was just getting into his music -- which would've been a good thing, as I would've been just a polite kid, rather than a gushing, blubbering, tongue-tied fan like today.

We just get dafter as we get older
-
Did Paul pay all the stars who were in the Queenie Eye video?

Yes. London Fun Clubbers got invited to that filming. Couple of friends of mine were in that audience, they had a great time. And I believe there are also Fun Clubbers in the campfire scenes in "Hope of Deliverance", too.

I tend to disagree. In today's computer/social media world a great video, one that has visual innovation, enough to go viral makes all the difference. Something you want to watch over again, and pass the link among your friends and say "Hey, you gotta check this out!". "Queenie Eye" is full of lyrics that could have been used in a visually stimulating way. Bitches, Snitches, Wicked Witches,... It is somewhat of a nonsense lyric song. Which is what I like about it. Best song on the album in my book. It should have been half animated and half live. It should have featured the band. Paul on the Magic Piano. One thing I loved seeing the song live in Times Square was Paul pointing at Abe in a section where the drums stood out. They were hot!!! The video they made, seemed hastily put together. It seemed gloomy in the studio, and the majority of stars, just appeared somewhat bored. Johnny Depp listening to an IPod when Paul is playing live? Eh. Paul on the grand piano instead of Magic Piano. To me the video is watch once, hey look at the stars, oh, there was a song? I don't think it draws you into the song, it is more of a background music to "Look at all my celebrity friends". Instantly forgettable. On the main site, they asked to hear our opinions. This is mine. I am sure I am being too honest, and will probably be bashed. Podgie (I Imagine more, what could have been) Monkey

Oh yes, of course, thanks for the reminder, lucky them

Has anyone mentioned that Giles Martin is in the video, but he didn't produce the song? Why would they need to run through the song, if it was already written and recorded with Paul Epworth?? Ah, artistic license!
