London - casting call - Paul's "Queenie Eye" video
-
lisalou7:
Notice Paul can't see the celebrities, fans etc. I'm starting to believe this song has more to do with the vapidness of the celebrity cult and the way the media behaved at a certain 'painful time.' I'm taking Paul's usual 'its only a kids game' explanation is to cover a more sophisticated meaning.
Well said.

No, but it made it, yet, another recent Paul McCartney album to receive rave critical reviews. That didn't happen so much in the '70s and '80s.
Yes, but a great video won't make a difference. If it was 1985, then yeah, sure. But in this musical climate.
I tend to disagree. In today's computer/social media world a great video, one that has visual innovation, enough to go viral makes all the difference. Something you want to watch over again, and pass the link among your friends and say "Hey, you gotta check this out!". "Queenie Eye" is full of lyrics that could have been used in a visually stimulating way. Bitches, Snitches, Wicked Witches,... It is somewhat of a nonsense lyric song. Which is what I like about it. Best song on the album in my book. It should have been half animated and half live. It should have featured the band. Paul on the Magic Piano. One thing I loved seeing the song live in Times Square was Paul pointing at Abe in a section where the drums stood out. They were hot!!! The video they made, seemed hastily put together. It seemed gloomy in the studio, and the majority of stars, just appeared somewhat bored. Johnny Depp listening to an IPod when Paul is playing live? Eh. Paul on the grand piano instead of Magic Piano. To me the video is watch once, hey look at the stars, oh, there was a song? I don't think it draws you into the song, it is more of a background music to "Look at all my celebrity friends". Instantly forgettable. On the main site, they asked to hear our opinions. This is mine. I am sure I am being too honest, and will probably be bashed. Podgie (I Imagine more, what could have been) Monkey
Thought I would do something on FB as a test. I posted the youtube clip of this video on my FB page and asked everyone to tell me how many people they recognized. My FB friends are mostly "boomers" but there are a few younger people. Anyway, withing 4 hrs, got 25 "likes" and 20 comments. I would say about 15 people said they may have to go out and buy "New" or put it on their Christmas list for Santa - lol. BTW - most people got the obvious famous people in clip but not many more.

Great idea!! I just did the same thing. I'll let you all know how it works out.

Paul should have asked Podgie The Bear to come up with a video for Queenie ! Maybe Podge Bear is kin to Rupert Bear. Or was that Rupert the Frog? Seems like there's some kind of bear from Paul's childhood that he loves (?)--anyways it's obvious Podge is a talented artist

Abe could put them to shame!

Somebody implied they thought he was showing off his famous friends, in that video...visual equivalent of "name dropping"...that's another way that video could backfire with some viewers. But Paul himself is the biggest most impressive "star" in the video so maybe that cancels it out, a showing off aspect (?)--

Rupert is a bear. You're thinking of the cartoon that was shown prior to GMRTBS in the theaters called Rupert and the Frog Song.

Oh well... next a lot of cheese to sell a ok song.
It's a great song. And anyone with a shred of musical taste gets that. But given that you do nothing but moan, complain, and pass judgment on Paul in your posts, I'm not surprised you don't like it.
Oh Paul's delusional girlfriend speaks.. If any of you didn't know. She Paul real love of his life.. it a secret! We not here to agree with your delusional worshiping. I think Paul professional enough to accept criticize of his work which I left to a few words but thanks to you I express my real feeling about this kind of shameless self promotion.. He had enough success he doesn't have to prove himself but it sounds like he was helping Mary's husband. As far as your comment that I don't get it. Get what? I didn't like the song. Excuse me. I don't have to get anything. What there to get, it's a hype up OK song that I couldn't even remember the tune after watching the video. As far as you go, since your stalking me on this site which is creepy and weird and Martin who usually pretty cool about keeping this childish stuff off the site isn't stopping you. I'll make a point to comment back each and every time you do this even if they keep removed the post like they done. I think you Paul McCartney worshiping is unhealthy and flat goofy. You have dilution of grandeur about Paul McCartney. I get that celebrity worshiping is a sickness and some people like you take it too far. I think you actually think you know Paul. Most true music fans don't need to be told what cool. We know what we each like and when we HEAR it, not because we see beautiful people bobbing their heads looking too sexy for themselves. I listen to music not watch it. This video has a bunch of beautiful people trying to make Paul music look hip and current. Which he doesn't need to do this he a legend who is cashing in big time and really starting to over expose himself. Its ageing models and their replacements all looking like "it girls" of the 60's. Millionaire, brooding, unshaven, rich single actors, looking to meet some pootang ,looking deep and sexy who right now need a diversion from their big time flop movies. ie Lone Ranger, Fair game. Movies that cost more to make than they did. This video shows how Paul can buy the best. Big deal. He'll be on the cover of Rolling Stone cause they don't have enough good musician today to get 12 covers. They got to drag back in all the 60 guys. I am sure Michellie someone like you wouldn't of heard of the documentary "Looking for Sugarman" because it not cool enough for you, though it did win a academy award. Great documentary about a overlooked musical artist who music I "got" just watching the documentary and the music was made 40 years ago. I watched the music in ahh of the unbelievable story, which was just amazing but the music was great and after watching it I couldn't get the tunes out of my mind and understood how this guy out sold the Beatles in South Africa. It all about image and exposure and sadly it hurt the music business. I couldn't even remember the tune after watching this video. Doesn't that seem odd that the video overshadowed the song? It would be interesting to see how much money this record cost Paul to make and promote and what it bring back in profits. He might have more in common with all these actors than.

Also, I am quite sure that Mr. Depp and all the others have plenty of things to do to occupy their time that they do not need be in a Paul McCartney video for diversion. "He'll be on the cover of Rolling Stone cause they don't have enough good musician today to get 12 covers. They got to drag back in all the 60 guys." Really. A rock icon puts out his first new record in 6 yrs which gets pretty darn good reviews and you think it is because they could not find anyone else - wow. BTW- I thought RS supposedly hated McCartney and worshipped Lennon - lol. There are plenty of people RS could put on the cover this week like Pearl Jam or Katy Perry for instance.

Notice so far, two ironics PETER BLAKE, the man who created the Sgt Pepper Beatles' album cover ALICE EVE, whose mother and father are actors Sharon Mughan and Trevor Eve. Alice's mother, Sharon appeared in those Taster Choice coffee commercials (ala soap opera/love relations format) in the U.S.A. with actor Anthony Head ("Buffy the Vanpire Slayer," TV series). Trevor had a few appearances in those commercials playing the ex-husband. Anthony Head's brother is actor/singer/songwriter, MURRAY HEAD ("One Night in Bangkok"). Murray Head was one of the stars (uncredited) of a 1966 movie called "THE FAMILY WAY" featuring music composed by PAUL McCARTNEY.
And Trevor Eve played Paul in the West End production of the play John, Paul, George, Ringo and Bert in the 70s.

I remember that time I saw their music videos and heard some really good music from bands and solo artists I'd not heard of and was knocked out by them, and then I never saw or heard from them again--must have been cause of what you said, Tarty, they couldn't afford to get promoted. I hate Miley Cyrus's singing voice, and she was so ubiquitous the past few weeks I found myself almost starting to get brainwashed to want to buy hers. Praise God I came to my senses, LOL Johnny Depp might well feel chagrined over playing Tonto and it bombed. he's still done very well for himself. But they say in Hollywierd you're only as good as your last movie. He might feel embarrassed by talk about him dumping his common law wife for Amber Heard. "They were there looking for poontang" LOL, that was funny, Tarty--they probably were! As well as to get some of Macca's star dust sprinkled on 'em and he wanted to enjoy some of theirs. Why couldn't that vid have featured his website regulars like us as well as the celebs, LOL--would have interested us, and maybe a few more, ghosts who lurk here and grow familiar with the oddballs oops I mean fans who write stuff here. You can be funny, Tarty. Even down to how you spell words.

" Yes the movie was supposedly awful, did not see it but trust the reviews. Cmon, every good actor alive has made clunkers. You don't think legendary actor Dustin Hoffman regrets being in "Ishtar" for example. Personally, I don't go to a movie just for one actor, I go for the overall movie.
