Hardly. The album was huge all over the world. No. 1 in the U.S for 7 weeks, and was his most successful post-Beatles album, at least on the charts. Of course it didn't hurt that it came out while the Wings Over America tour was in progress.

Hardly, its their 2nd biggest seller. Average public reviews are 4 stars on iTunes and Amazon. Die hard 'precious Paul' fans and Beatles obsessives are not going to like anyone but their idol sing on a McCartney/Wings album Also, they probably let the 'professional' critics influence their judgement too.

totally agree how can an album with silly love song and let em in be called a crap album it's one of the best

Macca's songwriting on SOS is effortless and melodic. My only quip is the woman's metaphor of gravy on She's my baby. Ruins the song for me. This is an example where Paul needed a filter. Time to Hide is Denny's best song with Wings, but thats not saying much. Bland is the best thing I can say about it. Wino Junko is a poor rewrite of Medicine Jar and should not be on a Wings album. I think if Paul had been patient & took his best stuff from V&M and SOS, he would have 1 killer album. Instead, he had 2 good but not great albums.

Just to clarify, I'm not calling it a crap album.... I am calling it a failure to capitalise. Some brilliant tracks on there. But it could've and should've been so much better. Had a huge listening audience and was a time to nail it rather than dish off tracks to other members who aren't exactly as vocally adept or charismatic A good album, maybe, but not a great one, not a brilliant one. For me it will always feel like the job was 70 per cent done.

Is not a crap album, but it could be better, so much better. Is not better than BoTR, V&M or London Town, just because Paul decided to reduce his own control over the group. It seems to be a good decision but the result is songs like Cook Of The House, Wino Junko, The Note You Ever Wrote... it was 1976, Paul's highest moment of his life... if he wanted to, it would his best LP ever.

But it pretty much is. Not a poor track on there. Even 'Cook Of The House' is fun. I guess this album isn't for the die hards but more for the general public.

This is one of the best albums that represent Wings as a band with all members participation. that's why it was called the Democratic album! there is no boring song in the list. but maybe some light weight/funny songs like "Cook in the house" . of course this can weaken the album as a whole and not put in the same standard as BOTR. the album have 3 great numbers: 1. Let'm In : a very awesome unusual melodic psychedelic track of the 70's. 2. Silly Love Songs : Best selling single in 1976 (maybe the whole 70's). who can forget this bass line or the three singing at the same time part in the middle of the song?. 3. Beware My Love : A great underrated rock gem that one cannot get enough of listening to. you cannot but fell in love with the acoustic guitar intro and Linda and Paul singing then that huge rocking desperate voice of Paul shouting "wo wo wo". the amazing thing is there is no solo guitar part in this wild rock song. yes Paul did it all in his vocals! These 3 above songs alone could have made an eternal unforgettable album and career for any lesser artist! very well produced played and sung . very good songs: - The Note You Never Wrote : Paul gave it to Denny. a sad strongly produced psychedelic song also. a wonderful weeping bass line here> - She's My Baby : I like it, it shows how Paul is capable of turning a simple tune to something very enjoyable in his performance and production. Could've fit White album. - Must Do Something About It : It could have been produced much better and of course sung much better by Paul. still the song shines in the album with it is strong melody. Good Songs : -San Ferry Anne -Warm and Beautiful -Time To Hide -Wino Junko These 4 songs gives you the feeling that they were produced in a hurry! not enough taken care of, could have turn into something much more effective. still enjoyable but they lowered the album over all rate. I guess this is what cause few critics to say "Democratic but dull!" the one thing that I did not like of the the album is the Cover. only words on a n ugly background. this also can effect the reception of any album. you have a strong band at that time they should have all appear on the cover.

This is the one album I'm struggling with. All of the others have some merit, but Speed of Sound for me is the most lightweight. Apart from the hits, I quite like Must Do Something About It and Beware My Love. Any others I'm missing?
time to hide?
