McCartney III a possibility?
-
I for one, really like the names he's been choosing for his last albums! NEW, Ocean's Kingdom, Electric Arguments... McCartney III is just not as imaginative and creative for the name, in my humble opinion... I like your ideas to polish up songs that should have been officially released Audi!

New will be old sooner or later. What's newer than New?
-
I admit that I have thought about the "New" title twenty thirty fifty years in to the future. For people being new to it then, as an old record.

I think "Chaos" WAS McCartney III
I tend to think Electric Arguments was more like a McCartney III album - a few pop/rock cuts, some exquisite ballads, and experimental instrumentation/song structures.
I agree Electric Arguments should of been the McCartney III album. I believe it was virtually a totally solo Paul effort of writing, playing and vocals with Youth (Martin Glover) as just co-producer. So Paul should of put it out under his name and not The Fireman. I think it needed some remixing and editing but would of complemented the McCartney / McCartney II series as a perfect 3rd installment.

McCartney was his first album after he lost his first band. McCartney II was the first album after he lost his second band. Those were his declarations of independence, more or less. What band has he lost to warrant III?
McCartney 2 was recorded long before Wings split and released while Wings were still together.

It's pretty cool that you think such an amazing album is worthy of the McCartney III title. I do really love the name Electric Arguments though. It always makes me wonder, were Paul and Youth arguing like, Van Gogh and Gauguin, in the making of it. Will their next collaboration be Utopian Dreams, or has Paul morphed himself, from the Fireman...into a Newmanesque robot of the Future? I really tend to love the Fireman type songs on NEW, however I love the variety from his working with four different producers and love that they pulled such a wide range of songs from Paul. NEW is my favorite album! Maybe Paul has evolved past McCartney III at this point...

I think Flaming Pie could have been McCartney 3, but nowadays I don't think it matters. Plus that maybe too nosalgic in 2015. He's really moved away from that idea both time and style wise. Any of that Fireman material or classical pieces could have been considered and they weren't. Imo

I wonder if the title "Electric Arguments" is borrowed from a poem by Allen Ginsberg called "Kansas City to St. Louis". I think the album has similarities with the McCartney albums but is still a piece of music he made while thinking of himself as The Fireman and therefore felt freer to make music without expectations, even if the result ends up being something that is as McCartney as anything else.

Now would be a great title for a 20 year old album.

No it came out in summer 1980. Wings were still recording in early 1981 The recording of the album was undertaken during a break from Wings in 1979 and before their British tour. So he hadn't planned McCartney 2 as a new departure. It was George Martin who persuaded Paul to effectively end Wings after McCartney 2 was released.

But did a Wings album come out after McCartney II? That's what I was getting at.

If he's not careful, he might go forward so far that he's behind himself.

I dont think Paul will do another new album for at least 4 years
