McCartney III a possibility?
-
Just wishful thinking? The "Coming soon to the McCartney Archive Collection" ad that they dropped in the BOTR reissue pictures McCartney & McCartney II among the next Concord CDs. I would imagine that this whole reissue process is going to take at least a couple years -- and Paul hasn't released a new studio album in over 2 years. This had me wondering how he might tackle the problem of promoting a fresh studio album in the middle of the Concord reissue campaign. Hardcore Macca fans wouldn't get confused, but the casual fan might (and they almost always market to the casual fan). Anyway, I could see Paul surprising us with a McCartney III album for a few reasons. 1) he received positive feedback for the left-of-center Electric Arguments.... 2) he would use the same talking points to cross-promote all three "McCartney" albums.... 3) in an interview last fall he mentioned getting re-aquainted with his old 4-track and 8-track equipment (although that may have been a reference to digging up old tracks for the Concord reissues). Just a thought/prediction.

I hope your right about us maybe getting a McCartney3, any new material would be good right now!!! i would also imagine the expectations of everyone will be really high regarding anything new as Macca seems to be on the crest of a wave just now, one thing i hope we dont get is another live album, as we (the fans) are getting nothing new on that front...
-
That is my big dream - McCartney III would be so cool!
-
any new material is welcome. if its as charming and pure as mccartney one YES if its as lifeless and downright tuneless as mccartney two NO. ['electric arguments' blows mccartney 2 out of the water!!!]

Can someone please explain what is meant by McCartney III? Is this a scenario in which he does it all in his home?
-
I would be incredibly happy if paul decided to realize such a project! I absolutely LOVE McCartney and McCartney II, and somehow I can imagine paul thinking "it would be nice to make it a trilogy".
-
I would love a McCartney III however, I don't thin kwe'll ever get one after how awful McCartney II was viewed by the critics (and mosty everyone else...) Also, I think these McCartney projects sort of represent the end of an era McCartney- End of The Beatles McCartney II- End of Wings So until he's done with this current band I guess....I'd rather keep these guys than have a McCartney III though!

More or less - it also indicates Paul playing all the instruments himself (which he as done since). He could've slapped the title 'McCartney III' on any of his last two albums of 'Paul McCartney' music as well as his 'Fireman' album...He did get some help on parts of these albums - but they are in large part solo in the more literal sense.
-
He did..he called Chaos and Creation in the Backyard

You know something, I could actually see a McCartney III album happening. I think it would be an amazing peice of marketing first of all. and I could see Paul having an itch somewhere to do it. I wonder what it would be like? I'm thinking there would have to be some sort of common musical thread again. basically all done himself on his own home 4-track, something like that. I'll be waiting

I read at this forum that Paul's recent sessions nearly resulted in a McCartney III. But, alas... not.
-
've not really been bothered about a McCartney III...would have been more relevent if it was in 1990 and the turning point in his career, but its not
-
I think it would be a smart business decision, actually. It would generate a lot of media interest, while shedding light on the previous two.

While the first one certainly generated interest since it was Paul's first acknowledged venture outside the Beatles (not counting Family Way and his part in producing songs for other artists), the second one was actually just accepted for what it was - another Paul McCartney album...even with the 'sans Wings' thing. And it was rec'd with very much mixed reviews, regardless of what our own (as Paul fans) opinions may be. I think the title 'McCartney III' would only make a stir amongst us Paul fans. The only way I could see it working is in this way: the first one was released and although it was described as a big departure from the work he had completed not too long before (Abbey Road), it still had sort of a white album-ish feel to it...so in otherwords, it was still 'Beatle sounding'. McCII was a complete departure from...anything...Beatles, Wings, whatever. Since he's since embraced his Beatles past, a proposed 'McCIII could mark a return back to the sound of the late Beatles and McC(one) period (very organically accoustic in nature with one or two bigger numbers mixed in, including no frills vocals - just his voice as if he was sitting next to you in your living room)

I love this idea!

I love the sound of the first McCartney album, it has a pure and uncluttered sound too it.I think it would be great for Paul to record that way again using an old Studer four track tape recorder, less is more.

I tend to agree, more or less.

It's not 1980 anymore. Most younger musicians/Macca fans rank McCartney II near the top of the heap. I realize these things are all just a matter of opinion, but it's a worn-out notion that McCartney II is bad just because it didn't adhere to some baby-boomer classic rock/pop aesthetic. It's as if people think Paul was trying to write a bunch of sturdy Let It Be/Eleanor Rigby-esque classics, but failed. I've never seen it that way. I just think he was being goofy and having fun (think Wild Honey Pie circa '80). It is for that reason that I don't view Chaos Or Electric Arguments as would-be "McCartney III" projects. They contain some great stuff, but are generally too somber and artistically self-aware for that "McCartney III" tag. PS: I hope Concord expands McCartney II to the ridiculous double album it should have been!
