2016 rumors - new music?
-
After two years with hardly any new music, what can we expect in 2016? Has Paul been into the recording studio recently? When can we expect the release of the High in the Clouds-animation, which apparently includes a collaboration with Lady Gaga? Or is the Flowers in the Dirt-remaster the only release next year? Anyone any thoughts? Or inside info?

Sure hope so, Egg, Hay Macca: Get yourself together now and make us something tasty!

There's always going to be "new music", (ie) stuff in the can we haven't heard. The way his voice sounds nowadays in the studio doesn't fill me with optimism, and dare I say it, but his great days are behind him. Of course he could get around that by compiling a new album of old songs (or vocals) and present them as a new album. His studio is out the back door at Sussex, so he's probably recording something pretty regularly. You'd think that 2016 would see a new pop/rock or Fireman release.

I'm guessing we'll see a new Fireman or something else eclectic before a new pop/rock album. Just a guess.

Looking back at Paul's post-Wings albums of original songs (ie this excludes, compilations, live albums, cover albums, collaborative projects etc), we have: McCartney II (1980) [ 2 year gap ) Tug Of War (1982) [ 1 year gap ] Pipes Of Peace (1983) [ 3 year gap ] Press To Play (1986) [ 3 year gap ] Flowers In The Dirt (1989) [ 4 year gap ] Off The Ground (1993) [ 4 year gap ] Flaming Pie (1997) [ 4 year gap ] Driving Rain (2001) [ 4 year gap ] Chaos And Creation In The Backyard (2005) [ 2 year gap ] Memory Almost Full (2007) [ 6 year gap ] New (2013). In the last twenty plus years, there have been mainly 4 year gaps between albums as well as a couple of 6 year gaps. The only encouraging sign is the 2 year gap between Chaos & Memory but judging by past form, I'm not expecting a 'solo' album of new material from Paul until 2017. .............which is only about 56 weeks away.

And he will be 75. That would be cool!

Well, if Adele can call her new album 25 then I guess Paul could rightly call his next album 75?
-
Pipes Of Peace and then Flowers In The Dirt , He did some work in between those albums and he does tour.....?

Well yes, except you left out Broadstreet in '84 and Press to Play in '86, and Run Devil Run in '99. I consider those full McCartney albums.

'Press To Play' I did overlook and I'll edit that in,so thanks for pointing that out. But 'Broad Street' & 'Run Devil Run' I purposely left out as both albums contain old songs and I wanted the list to contain new albums containing newly written material. The availability (or not) of new material naturally has a huge impact on when an album is recorded, and released.

Both Broad Street and RDR contain new songs written by Paul. They're part of his catalog. You can't just leave them out.

I can...and have.

That explains the missing Kisses On The Bottom then. However, 2008's Electric Arguments can't be overlooked. In fact, it was nearly released as a Paul McCartney record.

That was the one record I was in two minds about including. But then I thought if I included that one, then I'd have to include the other Fireman albums which would then distort the listing. Plus most of the songs on EA were improvised in the studio during recording where as the 'mainstream' albums are pre-written. I just wanted to provide a list of new albums, containing all new songs, to see if there was a pattern in the schedule. It does seem roughly four years has been a fairly common gap between these albums, which has allowed Paul amply time to accumulate enough material to record.

Fair enough.

RDR is one of Paul's best albums, even if it is mostly covers.

Agreed. But again, Fabulous should have been on the album. What It Is and RDR are great original songs, by anyone's standards - McCartney's included.
