The highest rated cable TV show (Bill O'Reilly - FOX) was going to have a segment on McCartney and "New" tonight. Unfortuantely, the segment got bumped due to the coverage of the US government shutdown vote. I hope they do air this segment tomorrow because love him or hate him Bill O'Reilly draws a huge audience every night at 8pm. For our non-USA friends, Bill O'Reilly is a controversial political talk show host and while the show is mostly about politics they do have segments on US entertainment/sports etc.

      Maybe I'm amazed !!

Yankeefan, You have ESP...I just heard the McCartney album mentioned by Bill's guest but I hadn't heard the earlier part. You're right about O'Reilly's drawing power. Is Bill a fan or critic? I think Paul is in England right now but maybe Bill would have the WSJ or NYTimes Music critics on to discuss "NEW". Obviously, if that would be true, I would hope it would at least be 1 critic (like the ones above) that love the album. Hopefully, we will find out if it will happen tomorrow. I was just saying in the new "Charts" post that "NEW" might have more buzz for a new Paul album since Flaming Pie or even Tug of War. Macca now needs to get back to the US next week and make some big national appearances. One of the big morning shows (Today or GMA) have music artists plugging albums all the time. Or how about Leno or Ellen. I guess we'll see.

Flipping through the news channels, I saw that was coming on and O'Reilly did an intro about his little report that wasn't shown, posing the question will the kids buying this album from the aging former Beatle. I don't normally watch this show, perhaps this will be shown Thursday night.

Figure he'll either rip or mock Paul given the support Paul has shown for Obama and vice versa over the years,

A snide remark from O'Reilly is almost an inevitability, given his attitude on a number of things.

Wonder if he'll bring on Bernie Goldberg. In the 23 years since his "48 Hours" report, I'll bet his views and Paul's have diverged quite a bit!

That's right, I had forgotten about the Goldberg interview. I have that on VHS tape and haven't seen it in years. That ought to be on Youtube, maybe. Best 48 Hours they did.

From the sound of the intro, think it will be positive. They said something like is this Beatlemania II which is not a bad thing I am guessing. I also don't see them doing segment to be negative.

                      Maybe I'm amazed !!

That is his nature but I doubt it in this type of segment. BTW - O'Reilly is a big Beach Boy fan .

O'Reilly loves The Beatles. The Stones etc...I remember his pointed editorial years ago on Ms Mills... I think he went along to Paul's New York shows. I know he did once.

I have it on VHS taped from the telly. At the time it was a very big deal, and one of the best all-round features of its type. Really good interviews that covered new ground (for the time). The passionate lady fan from Chicago, featured so prominently in it, sadly passed away not long after.

The other great thing is that it is free publicity reaching millions if they show it. If I don't see it tonight, I will write the show and ask about the segment. McCartney already was on with Fallon and Kimmel so probably does not need to visit another one IMO. GMA would be better than Today due to they are the #1 morning show and instead of Ellen how about doing "The View".

Ellen loves music and a Paul appearance would have a light, happy tone, he could joke and kid around and be playful like he likes, because that's the vibe of the show. On "The View" the interview would be more in depth, cover more ground. How about "The Talk" "Queen Latifah" and/or Dr. Oz. Rachel Ray he could demonstrate one of his favorite veggie dishes. Jeez he'd run himself ragged being on all these. (LOL)

Sadly their politics aren't too far off. Paul is overall a supporter of US power, the NYPD, very trusting of its motives in wars, silent on Israel's occupation etc etc. He may not have liked Bush much but all said and done, Paul's politics are closer to O'Reilly's than Amy Goodman's say or even Rachel Maddow's. And Paul uses every visit here to hurrah the U.S anyway. Sadly Bill O'Reilly won't have a problem with him.

I would hardly call Paul a conservative! I think his silence on such things is more to do with being a public figure who doesn't want to alienate or push away fans who might find his taking a stand distasteful or disagreeable. Having said that, Paul is clearly pro-USA, and sees it as a second home.
