The Press to Play lyrics were great although that was not my favourite moment of Macca-music. I would choose the whole Footprints lyrics, and these ones as well "Taking the sand inside an oyster changing it into a pearl Making another magic transformation Find the right boy for the right girl"

This is just so beautiful... Love it! At the end of the end It's the start of a journey to a much better place And this wasn't bad So a much better place would have to be special No need to be sad On the day that I die, I'd like jokes to be told And stories of old to be rolled out like carpets That children have played on and laid on While listening to stories of old At the end of the end It's the start of a journey to a much better place And a much better place would have to be special No reason to cry On the day that I die, I'd like bells to be rung And songs that were sung to be hung out like blankets That lovers have played on and laid on While listening to songs that were sung At the end of the end It's the start of a journey to a much better place And a much better place would have to be special No reason to cry, no need to be sad At the end of the end...

Love it, perfect lyrics about life and death. A good song for a funeral.

And they will probably play it at his. I am just thinking about it!

If you cry, you haven't read the lyrics right, it clearly says:
It's the start of a journey to a much better place And a much better place would have to be special No reason to cry No need to be sad On the day that I die, I'd like jokes to be told

It's not actually a sad song, true. But it came out as my father was dying and I will never be able to listen to it without crying.

I know the lyrics quite well. I don't care what Paul says, I will cry my eyes out on that day. When someone has been a big part of your life for over 50 years, it is only natural.

Of course it is. I wasn't that serious. But at least this song gives one hope that death is not something that's too sad.

Lennon used to like Paul's "cosmic" (John said) lyrics, like "and in the end..."... and said "he can write great lyrics if he wants to" what about... "what's the use of anything?" Paul use to shrugs like "I don't have a clue" when singing it live now. I've never heard anything more "cosmic" than that. Yes, what's the use of anything, of it all? Paul, in the original says "No use" after "what's the use of worrying" and "what's the use of hurrying" but nothing after "what's the use of anything" in Kiev 2008, the premiere!

Here we sit, two lonely old people Taking our lives away Bit by bit, two lonely old people Keeping the time of day Great, underrated song... It really is nice to see that on this, Paul's 71st birthday, he hasn't turned into the image painted in these lyrics.

"May we never be called to handle all the weapons of war we despise" I love all the lyrics on My Brave Face but in particular "Ever since you went away, I've had this sentimental inclination not to change a single thing" "As I pull the sheet back on the bed, I wanna go bury my head in your pillow" "As I threw away another untouched TV dinner from the table I laid for two" Conjures up great imagery IMO
I kind of like "Ive been hitting the town and it didn't hit back" - lol

Many a time, I have wondered who wrote that great line -- Paul or Costello?
-
'Though some things in life are hard to bear Don't let it bring you down Should the sand of time run out on you Don't let it bring you down' From Don't Let it bring You Down. To me these are powerful lyrics which have been a comfort to me in hard times.

Sounds like Costello but who knows. Maybe we should ask this question and send it in to the monthly question to McCartney - lol

A lot of lines on "Chaos and Creation in the Back Yard," especially. Among Paul's most introspective soul-searching works. One comes to mind, "While you were riding to Vanity Fair"--very telling and evocative, when you consider what it's about. And who it's about. The reference to English Literature, the novel, "Vanity Fair" book title.in particular.

Okay, I'll bite--what and who is it about?

Well, it seems obvious to me, Nancy. I thought everyone knew. H. M. (if it's alright to say that) and the frantic grab at media attention and doing great things in the world and getting a lot of credit for it, and being high fashion and high profile as possible, etc. Wringing every last bit of opportunity out of the association with Paul Mc. though I've no doubt she went through a period of being truly besotted with him. He's too lovable and likable not to bring that out, even in someone possessed of a lot of "vanity."

Okay, I'm not that familiar with the song (or the album for that matter) although I have it, I probably only played it a couple times. ops: Will have to play it again soon!
