Could the new Kanye/McCartney single All Day be his best?

Hip hop/ rap is overtly occultists. They use the symbols and gestures everywhere as if they're proud of it. Rock music always had it too, but was more covert, or hidden. Hip hop/rap is in your face with it. It's just too negative and suggestive for me. I fail to see how it can influence anyone with a positive nature other than draw people into the occult in aggressive and subconscious ways. I think it's dangerous.
Hip hop is also American. It's very strange for me as an outsider to read about all this. I thought Kanye West was the biggest American thing right now and Paul McCartney is collaborating with him, having a hit with the black singer Rihanna, and suddenly there is talk about racism. This is a very dark thread. I signed up here on McCartney.com because I'm a fan but now I'm starting to doubt whether I belong here. It's like Paul McCartney vs. America and I'm just an eskimo who stumbled into here. :
. Don't worry about it man. There's a lot of overgeneralizing going on here.
Possibly. Are you familiar with Fishbone? They're an in-your-face, black, rock/hip-hop/punk band. If you'll compare the conscious truthfulness of this spoken-word/rap with what's purported to be viable hip-hop today, the point speaks for itself. This is what hip-hop should be saying:
When Paul McCartney makes a record with these dudes, then I'll truly be impressed.I like it. I would say that the socially conscious stuff is still out there, but it won't necessarily be heard on mainstream radio. And that goes for all genres, not just hip hop.

Pretty soon Paul will be out on tour, and the press is going to ask him about all of this. Can't wait for his answers.

Can somebody pleeeeeease tell me why his wife gets mobbed by fans in public more often than not? What is her actual talent that warrants her fame? What does she do other than simply exist? Have I missed something -- or are too many of my fellow Americans just that stupid?
"Have I missed something -- or are too many of my fellow Americans just that stupid?" In a nutshell, the answer is yes. IMO - She is nothing but a two bit wh**e whose main claim to fame was a sex video. Her marriage to Kris Humphries was nothing more than a publicity stunt for the stupid TV reality series.
She is indicative of what "celebrity" means in 2015. And that is why I don't buy the whole "Kanye is the Elvis and Beatles of this era, because old people didn't get them either" argument. People are famous today for doing SO MUCH LESS than what one had to do 40 or 50 years ago to be famous.
Yep, there is no way anyone could seriously say that Mr. Kardashian is any modern day counterpart to Elvis or The Beatles..... And I don't think anyone has.... surely not, in a serious sense.... Because that would be akin to me declaring the lint in my belly button is capable of world peace.... I'm pretty confident that The Beatles and The King will still be THE ONES in many a century from now.... Mr. K will just be a little piece of wax on a candle that eventually gets bumped off the cake.

Shouldn't that be "the celebrated Mr. K"? (Sorry, couldn't resist.)

You know, there are levels of artists in between Shawn Cassidy and the Beatles. Kanye falls somewhere in there. I'm more inclined to see him as creative even if if it's not my personal taste. His wife is simply a celebrity, but Kanye is more than that, but less than the Beatles.

I grew up in the south, and I went to school with and had many, many white friends. It amused me more than it did anger me when a friend's dad would greet me with the occasional "What's happenin', my brother?." I knew that they were trying to, let's ay, relate. But, no -- white folks using the "n-word" (in either incarnation) directly at black folks is ill-advised.
"But, no -- white folks using the "n-word" (in either incarnation) directly at black folks is ill-advised" IMO - McCartney being on this record is just as bad because it is like he approves of it being used and he is a white man. I also think this is amazing from the man who tells us the story of the song "Blackbird" being about the Civil Rights struggle and then finds it no problem "rolling with it" while songs says the term not once but many times.
Lets not forget Lennon used the word in the title of a single in 1972, no less, before hip hop existed.
Yes he did and I thought that was horrible also.
I like the record. And I like the message more, albeit a stark one.
Understood but Mr. Lennon could have made the same point without using that word IMO.

It has been implied by a few here on these pages that Kanye is a modern day Elvis or Beatles because some of us, like our parents before us, seemingly disapprove of West's "edgy" and "threatening" lyrics and actions like generations before did the Beatles and Elvis. I don't see Kanye as an innovator, he is merely one member of many of a movement. History will prove his value to hip hop, which may be very great indeed.

Well, THAT review certainly isn't very favorable!
I guess Paul sings during the final minute...if one can get that far into the "song". There is speculation that Paul's 1970 song.....being considered for "RAM", entitled"When The Wind Is Blowing,"...is used in the melody, if there is a melody in there somewhere. Paul's involvement with Kanye smacks of desperation on his part. Kanye is not the genius the music world seems to think he is This is just the latest example. Not sure who is using whom in all this.....Paul's involvement just saddens me..... ops:

Yes, that definitely is the melody in there. I think the song is pretty good, although I'd prefer if a certain word were not used over and over (!). I don't personally think Kanye is a genius, but he's influential and he's worked with a lot of different artists of today (including Madonna on her new album); his style changed the sound of hip-hop, there's no question, so that makes him significant, at least for now. I fully expect Paul to return to his usual thing after this Kanye album (and the upcoming movie soundtrack) are out of the way.

I don't think it's desperate at all. Paul has always liked working with interesting artists. And whether you like it or not, Kanye is one of the most significant artists of this generation.

I have thought about McCartney experimenting with hip hop since the 90s. He did the techno Fireman records... But it never really happened back then. You had all this Gangsta Rap... When I read that he had done some stuff with Kanye West, I thought, why him? I'm not extremely familiar with his music but from things I've read and heard is he considered some kind of a studio production genius in his field. And there is a pop sensibility to his rap. So... I don't know, but...

Significant HIP HOP artist. His influence is not as widespread as the Beatles were in the 60s and beyond. But in his genre? Yes.

That's true, he first cut his teeth in the business as a producer. People will say he's not the greatest MC from a technical standpoint, but he's quite possibly the greatest producer hip hop has ever seen. The soundscapes he creates are pretty amazing.

Nobody has been as influential as the Beatles. But hip hop has been in the mainstream for many years. Its influence spreads throughout popular music (well, maybe outside of country).

Fair enough. But is he more influential than, say, Snoop Dogg or Eminem? I don't know. Maybe he is. The most influential. Obviously he is big enough for Paul to take notice. In any event, may they make more music together if that is what they want to do!

I have not read all of the responses but Im in agreement with those who have pointed out the use of the N Word in the song. Ive tried to overlook it, but I could not bring myself to get to Sir Paul's part because I could not get past the first minute of the song. To say that hip hop artists use the word does not justify it in the least. It is a vile word and should not be celebrated. No one would be pleased to hear Sir Paul sing the words: "All Day N%^&%" I know his part comes at the end and he doesnt say it but he could not get away with saying that word no matter how beloved he is. No one should say that word. I have tremendous respect for Sir Paul, but I dont like his association with this particular song.
