Pure McCartney

I still need to get my copy but it may have to wait until my birthday. I gotta get all of Paul's CDs back too since I lost them when I moved. I have no problems with the list of songs on Pure McCartney. Whatever Paul comes out with I love it anyway.

You may have seen this interview that just came out in the Washington Post? https://www.washingtonpost.com/entertainment/music/singing-with-gaga-a-new-box-and-jelly-bean-memories-paul-mccartney-returns/2016/07/07/98dcbede-3e62-11e6-80bc-d06711fd2125_story.html Paul finally comes clean about the Pure McCartney track selection: The "playlist" concept was suggested by a woman in his New York office, and she came up with the first version, which it seems Paul made changes to (he's not clear on that). The Flowers tracks were, in fact, left off because of the upcoming reissue. I can see that from the marketing standpoint, but if this collection has to stand up over the years, it looks silly not to have a few Flowers tracks on it. Let's face it, the people who'll be buying the Flowers reissue will be buying it for the bonus material (like the Elvis Costello demos), not "My Brave Face." And of course Pure McCartney didn't sell well enough that it would even have an impact on whether people also buy Flowers in the fall!

So true! Paul just doesn't think these things through!

_________________________________________________________ I'm still very confused with the theory behind this compilation. The original "playlist" concept ( a suggestion by a woman in his NY Office) is a weird starting place. If you are going with the "playlist" concept, why not, for example, create a poll with his fans from this Website Instead of the mysterious one person making decisions, you are allowing the fans (many people) to have a direct voice. It's not hard to believe that the end result would have been much better. As far as I'm concern there are a bunch of songs that would not have made a "fan" list. Personally, my list would have been significantly different. They include: Great Day (too many songs from Flaming Pie) The Song We Were Singing (too many songs from Flaming Pie) Bip Bop (this would not have made my list of 150 songs!) Waterfalls (Another song "One of These Days" from McCartney 2 is better) Appreciate (too many songs from "New") Sorry Nancy! Mrs. Vanderbilt (too many songs from Band on the Run; not as good as Bluebird) Winedark Open Sea (not as good of song "Hope of Deliverance" - same album) Girlfriend (Not as good of song as "I'm Carrying" - same album We All Stand Together - there are a lot of better songs Baby's Request - better songs from Back to the Egg Temporary Secretary - Better songs form McCartney 2 Big Barn Red - Better songs from Red Rose Speedway With a Little Luck (single edition)- wouldn't have happened using a fan Poll For starters I have listed 12 songs that I don't believe the fans would have voted in. I'm sure there are some more that would not have made the cut also. There are significantly better songs that were omitted plus the fact that the fans would not have voted for the "single" version of "With a Little Luck" in a million years. The other factor that I question on Pure McCartney is exactly who the target audience is. I liked the idea of a new compilation but you shouldn't eliminate your biggest fans. I would have added (like Yankeefan said) tracks that would appeal to the harder core audience. These tracks would have included some B-sides, unreleased material, rare songs like songs from sound tracks etc. This would have appealed to all audiences. The way it ended up has not appeal for the serious as well as the novice McCartney potential buyer. Anyway, just my thoughts. So far i haven't bought Pure McCartney because already own the huge majority of tracks.

Call me crazy, BJ, but I bought the 2-CD and 4-CD versions of Pure McCartney. I agree with a lot of the things you say, though I like "Appreciate" and "Temporary Secretary." Still, a majority of fans certainly would not have voted for the latter. Paul seems to have a soft spot for "Bip Bop," just one of those things, like "C Moon." Positive memories of Linda, I think.

Thanks wingsdgm! I must say I never get tired of Paul's songs...I don't mind the list of songs on Pure McCartney. Some of my favorites are on there. Maybe Paul will do a Pure McCartney 2 4 disc cd set with more other songs. That'd be nice huh?

In its fourth week on the chart, Pure McCartney is down to #196 (after a peak of #15). I think that's all, folks!

___________________________________________ Thanks Favoritething. I must have been really tired when I did my reply above. I noticed a lot of typos. Anyway, the Billboard results are obviously disappointing especially if they are adding individual track internet downloads to the tally. But as I mentioned above, the project seemed to be very haphazard at best with very little precise marketing behind it. It seemed to be doomed from the start. Including even a little bit of goodies for the serious fan might have helped the cause considerably. The serious fans are in many cases the "real" buyers.

I suggested the Fan Vote from Day 1. It would have been a perfect way to select the many songs to fit across 4 CDs. Everyone has different "tastes" with regards to Paul's music, so let the collective crowd decide. It could have been set up so the voting had to done across albums or decades- so not to overload on the 70's era. Same thing could have been done with a 5th "rarities" CD - of unreleased material, movie songs, etc. Again, my suggestion to Paul - fire whoever does your Marketing!

Yeah, that sounds about par for the course. Incompetent staff, poor management.

In the UK, it's risen slightly from #40 last week to #37 this week. Source: http://www.officialcharts.com/charts/albums-chart/

It's official - my 2 and 4 disc versions have different versions (or mixes) of Dance Tonight. But to add to this - I bought the two disc version while on a visit to the UK to visit my daughter (who's in school over there). This set was purchased at the HMV in Norwich (Chapelfield Shopping Center) The 4 disc set was bought back here in the states, in my home town (Barnes and Noble in Framingaham, MA) The difference - on the two disc version, purchased in the UK, the bass doesn't kick in until half way through the second verse (meaning the second half of where Paul sings two verses in succession - after 'everybody's going to dance around...'. On the 4 disc version, it kicks in right at the beginning of the first verse, I mentioned this upon my arrival back from the UK in the 'lastest purchase' thread (was in the UK over Thanksgiving break - although there's no Thanksgiving over there...LOL)...at the time I didn't have the 4 disc set to compare it to. Just bought the 4 disc version last week just to spend a Barnes and Noble gift card I received for Christmas (I don't think I was going to buy the 4 CD version if not for that gift card...and I browsed a lot of sections of music and books before I made the plunge...LOL) I'm not sure if the difference was intended to be between the 2 and 4 disc sets or if it's a US vs UK thing...they both say 'Concord Music'. Any ideas on this?

Maybe one is the video mix. It sounded a bit different to my ears, though it could be because it didn't seem to have the atrocious album mastering.
