Wearing of the green

Just wondering if Paul celebrates St Patty's Day at all. I know he has Irish roots through both his mother and father's sides of the family. (McCartney is an Irish surname, right?) This Monday is St Patty's Day but I can't exactly picture him putting on an emerald green t-shirt and wandering down to the nearest watering hole for a drink. I'm proud to be an American but I have strong Irish roots myself. I hope what happened this time last year doesn't happen again. I went out drinking on St Patty's Day and took a bus home. Might not seem like that big a deal to you but I had never driven a bus before.
Just stole that off the internet. Anyway, Happy St Patty's Day to all those who celebrate. Scarlett...wearing green today -
I always thought it was Scottish in origin. But further research indicates McCartney is indeed an Irish surname.

A lot of the Mc or Mac names are thought to have originated in Scotland. But it seems some are Scottish and some are Irish.

Thanks for the Elvis photo, Oobu, that's cute! I just noticed that you have over 35,000 posts.....may I say "wow"? Have you written your own book about Paul or would you like to? What an accumulation of Paul/Beatles knowledge you must have! Looks like I will need to buy Lewisohn's "Tune In" to get an answer to my "Is Paul Irish" question. Seems like a pretty interesting book. I would love to get one of my book clubs to read something like this but they're always hooked on fiction. We sit around trying to figure out the motivations of characters who never really existed and what sense does that make? I'd much rather be reading this sort of thing....and I shall!

Hi Scarlett, Not sure about Paul, but according to my English wife St. Patrick's Day is not really celebrated in England for various mostly historic reasons that I don't want to get into here. Although Paul has some Irish ancestors, I'd guess that he is fully Anglicized and considers himself to be an Englishman. Having said that, my guess is that he probably does little or nothing with regard to St. Patrick's day. Happy St. Patrick's Day to you though!

Steven, if you have green eyes, then you are definitely covered!My parents always told me that I didn't need to ever wear green on St Patty's Day because I have the map of Ireland on my face. Actually many people tell me I look like the lead actress in the Irish classic "The Quiet Man" if you're familiar with that film at all. Erik, a few years ago I happened to be on vacation in London when it was St Patty's Day. I had a full day of touring planned out for myself and I wore what I always wear on that day...green! Well, I couldn't help noticing that I was the only person riding the tube wearing that color that day, let me tell ya! I love the English. I love the Irish. It's all good.

Mike McCartney did a family tree in his book The Macs. It came out about 30 years ago.

I'd much rather be reading this sort of thing....and I shall!Paul's mum was born in Liverpool. Her parents were Owen Mohin who was from Ireland. He married Mary Theresa Dahner who was from Liverpool. Owen's parents and grandparents were all from Ireland. Paul's great- grandfather on his dad's side was James McCartney II and he was from either Ireland or Liverpool. This is all from Mike's book, so check Lewisohn's as he is probably more accurate!
