Paul's Speaking Voice / Accent

. P.S. Paul never Slurs his words, he Mumbles sometimes. when he mumbles out loud, he sometimes catches himself off guard. it can be scary soemtimes! so he blows out a sigh of "Relief". after he has Focused on the moment at hand! every one does it, even me. .
I love catching Paul do that on film in interviews.

I admit, it is hard for me to watch interviews involving Paul anymore after watching Steve Riks. I can't help but cringe..

The only Beatle whose voice didn't change much was Ringo. Look at John . He started out pretending to be a Scouser instead of the fairly posh middle class guy he was. He purposely sounded scruffy. And for a long time he had this deep voice in interviews. As he got older, his voice got softer and softer. Sort of the opposite of Paul. John's voice seemed more feminized as he got older (while Paul's has gotten deeper and more masculine. It's odd, isn't it?) Then George. He had the thickest accent out of all of them. (A great accent, I might add). But by the end of his life, he sounded entirely different, too. I think Paul does tend to vary his vocal style depending on his audience. When he's talking to music types, he uses the "f" word more and tries to sound more folksy. When he's trying to be perceived as a regular guy, he brings back his Liverpool accent a bit. When he's talking to classical-music or art types he sounds more like the sophisticated man he really is nowadays. That's probably what annoys some people. He doesn't always come off as genuine. Which voice is really his? In fact, they all are. And while haters might attack Paul about this, we all do the same thing, to some degree. I talk to my mother a whole lot differently than I talk to my kids and I talk with my friends from college a whole lot differently than I talk to my mother. And in professional/career settings, I speak in a different way, too. It's just no one is following me around with a camera documenting my vocal tics.

Well, Paul talks now on a lower register than he did in the past. So that forced sound on his voice now. He uses low notes to talk so there's an strain for talking (ask a voice therapist!) so he sounds "strange", bad, really. Kind of talking like a bariton. Only opera singers don't talk that way... they talk natural, using high thin voices, like Paul did. "girly" you can say... I don't have a clue about why he does talk this way now. I've got videos for comparison , simply searching mccartney interview in youtube. the thing is that even in the 60s he sometimes talked low too, he sometimes talks high now, you never know...

Mick Jagger is the king of adjusting his voice to whom he's speaking. Macca has fessed up to changing his accent a bit according to his territory, eg in the US he does the 'how ya doin' man?' type stuff, but anyone would. For all that, it's said that Michael Jackson had quite a deep voice and the silly high voice was just a put on latterly. Anyway, your voice deepens as it gets older.

I love the way Paul can change his voice and play around. He can sound like anyone. Like in The Fireman EA CD, where he becomes Gladys Jenkins and his voice has so many ranges. And just when he is goofing around. Of course I have only heard this on recordings, so that is what I am going on. He sounds HOT!

Yeah, I love his vocal range in singing. His talking however, just cracks me up.

Ok! Lets cut him him slack! He's heading into his 70th year; he looks great(probably better than most people half his age) & we admire him for the great music he's given us all these years.

: What's wrong with his accent

nothing is wrong, is just that someone is annoying with Paul accent. I don't see the problem, is easy don't listen to him anymore. But, for me is accent is fine, when was young and now is better, I love the low voice, like when Paul sing Two magpies, is amazing. 2:

I love to hear Paul speak, now more than ever. Must confess I've sometimes thought the other Beatles' speaking voices sound ugly. Not really pleasing. Their accents, vocal tones, phrasing, diction, etc. I've noticed that handsome men usually have pleasing melodious sounding speaking voices, and Paul IS/was the most handsome Fab. In my opinion

: What's wrong with his accent
As I said before, Nothing! Read the entire thread and you might understand. And I agree with Rupert Bear, he does sort of slur his words, not like he would if he was drunk, it's just a sign of age. My mother sounds like that especially on the phone (she's 80)

Exactly! There's no need to get defensive, its just an observation.

I didn't watch that much in men, but sometimes I say/think "the good-looking singer's voice". Cause the most beautiful voices use to be of singer considered as good-looking, pretty subjetive of course, but it seems like there's something about it. when thinking about beautiful rock and roll voices, it's Elvis, Paul McCartney, George Michael, etc. Elvis had that voice when speaking too.

Pretty much sums it up for me as well, & hell do I cringe when the mock- jamaican accent gets an airing ops:

Someone mentioned Linda's "upper class New York accent".... first of all I never heard that and I don't think Paul had any kind of New York or american accent all through his marriage with Linda! Sure, he used words that Linda would use but she did the same and she was even amused by the fact how her accent and use of words had changed because of Paul! Watch "Wingspan", there's a cute little scene that shows it!

That's funny because I remember when I was a kid, quite frequently being disappointed upon seeing the face that went along with a voice I'd loved on the radio. Most of the time the looks didn't match the voice. The guy would be ugly as sin, meanwhile I had thought the voice would belong to a cute guy. Still happens to me once in a while, it's just now I actually expect it. LOL

Btw, Paul (throughout his career) has been one of the few people who's speaking voice does NOT give anything away towards how he sounds when he's singing...John Lennon (on the other hand) sang with the same voice he spoke with

Rich, you are right! I never thought about it that way!
