Didn't all The Beatles try to form bands at some point in time?

Yep! Plastic Ono Band, Travelling Wilburys, Ringo Starr & His All Starr Band.

Wings were one of the biggest selling acts of the 70's. They outsold The Beatles during their time together. Wings rule!

He would have been better off just as solo Paul. No disrespect but the other members of Wings had no business being in the spotlight with Paul. No one wanted to hear a non-Paul song on an album. But more importantly, Paul would have had more freedom to collaborate with different and more talented partners and players both in the studio and on stage like he has post Wings who would have pushed him. Imo, Wings in a way stifled Pauls creativity a bit and he became lazy.

You forget how major Wings were in the 70's. You can't change history. I adore the non Paul vocals and songs e.g on Speed Of Sound. Wings during the 76 tour were a better live band than The Beatles for sure. And they outsold them during their time together.

Well, don't forget that the quality of the sound system drastically improved by 1976.

Actually, I don't think solo careers exist much yet when the Beatles broke up. I once read they invented the concept of solo careers

"I don't like you" "I'll get over it"

Yeah, no other bands/performers had broken up (at that point in history) and then the guys had solo careers. Later we had Phil Collins, Cher, etc.

Except Rod Stewart, Neil Young, Eric Clapton, Paul Simon, probably a bunch of other people. Did Diana Ross go solo before or after The Beatles broke up?

KISS the pioneers.... went off on their own approaching their peak-time and each four members individually released solo albums... I might be slightly flippant in that.... but really, it was a clever decision. They reunited, in between making money, and then produced their peak period. Dynasty, I Was Made For Loving You... world wide tours, The Biz. I STILL wish for that alternate world where John, Paul, George and Ringo did the same in 1970/1971 and then reunited for the Mother of double-albums.... anyway, not to happen.

Yes Toris, for God's sake, why didn't Paul and John realize the enormity of what they threw away and reunite to see if they could recapture their songwriting partnership magic, have some jam sessions, see what happened And then of course all four of them record the results (also have more originals from George).

Because what you describe had not happened since about 1965. And why on earth would George ever return to that situation?? He was hanging out and jamming and writing songs with Bob Dylan and Eric Clapton, who treated him like an equal, which he was. Everything happened how it was supposed to.

The Beatles gave the world EVERYTHING they had...and more. John and Paul threw nothing away.

And let's be honest, some of that negativity was earned. Paul's '70s work had great moments and not-so-great moments. "Wild Life" wouldn't have been a good album or gotten good reviews if it had the Pope's name on it.

That`s subjective.I can never understand why people hate Wild Life so much - and I think it is one of the albums that is being re-evaluated.

I agree. Wild Life is one I love too.

Absolutely, and by some margin!... The Beatles obviously one of the first ones that had to consistently play live whilst being drowned out by mass adulation. Always the forerunners, those four lads. Sound technology would've been their friend. They'd have nailed it in '76.

To be honest, I rarely listen to the Beatles. I was born in the Wings era and grew up with McCartney solo, and always preferred that music.

Well, actually they did have some jam sessions out in Cali and May Pang said the tape of it was sheet. So, no loss there.

Also: Sam Cooke, David Ruffin, Jeff Beck and many, many more. And by the way: Diana Ross acted like a solo artist even when the Supremes were still together. One doesn't need to read Call Her Miss Ross to figure her out; just listen to their hits. With the exception of their first singles (which flopped) and their classic "Keep Me Hangin' On," Florence and Mary are barely audible on those Motown sides.
