Once again, I don't know what you're talking about, Jazz is not a failing genre, it's doing just fine! I guess you can convince yourself of anything, and yes Jeff Loeber did pay my brother!
chicken korma, jazz, pop, rock, tomato soup, hip-hop, punk, disco or having the choice of going to either the North Pole or The Bahamas for your holidays, its down to choice, some we may like, some we may try and others we will love, its personal taste, I'd take tomato soup over a korma any day of the week yet in the event of a nuke blow-out i'd only be to happy to get stuck into a korma, the same could be said for Jazz or other types of music, if Jazz or Hip-Hop is all that's left i'd only be to happy to listen to it in order to keep myself sane while stuck inside the fallout shelter. I'm glad your bro got paid, he's a good bassist (yes i did listen to him) i heard all about that Jeff Loeber being a bad payer and my first thoughts were he's done a runner

Again just have to say I am amazed at how well it has charted given the type of project it is. I thought it would have debuted at #25 instead of #5. Top 20 is still respectable. Also I saw the physical vs digital debate a few posts back. Put me down as prefering a physical copy any day. Digitial (I pod, etc....) is fine, but I prefer to have something tangible when it comes to a favorite artist.
first week sales will almost always give Macca a top 10 hit
Well, if we're counting Flaming Pie, Chaos, MAF and KOTB, then yes. Although it didn't work so well for FITD (which should have been top ten), OTG (which is also a shame) and Driving Rain (which actually kind of deserved it if only for She's Given Up Talking.) Plus Run Devil Run should have gotten a better charting than it did as well.

Macsback, let me say thanks for checking out my brother, and I'm absolutely sure he appreciates it also!

whisper it but it appears to me that 'kisses on the bottom' is quietly slipping away from the spotlight ....

I'm not surprised that it's at No. 66 in the UK after 4 weeks. After all, I looked at the top 100 album chart in the UK and the only other Jazz album I could find was Robert Glasper's Black Radio, which debuted at No. 81. So you folks aren't big jazz fans I guess? Gees, even Tony Bennett's new album wasn't in your top 100 anymore. I guess it's great that Paul has managed to stay in the top 100 for a month with this. But I bet it drops off altogether next week or the week after. It'll probably drop more slowly on the US charts since we seem to have a bigger appetite for jazz and standards. Just my 2 cents, though.

HitsDailyDouble shows KOTB at #38 this week, a pretty big drop but not a surprise. http://www.hitsdailydouble.com/sales/salescht.cgi The publicity has run its course, he's not touring, and it's only getting modest airplay (though "My Valentine" continues to get pretty steady, albeit not electrifying, play on adult contemporary radio). The album is running its course, and we can all get back to awaiting the pop/rock album we really want.

Was this posted already? http://www.mediabase.com/mmrweb/insideradio/charts.asp?format=4&showyear=y&dpt=n "My Valentine" was a Top 20 hit on Billboard's AC Chart last month. Paul's awesome, awesome track was in the same company as Adele, Hot Chelle Rae, Lady Gag(a).

Thanks for posting. I hadn't seen that. And yes, it is cool that the song clearly got a lot of radio play.
-
personally i think its clutching at straws, like the Jazz chart, this radio play chart doesn't mean much to anyone either, bring on the rock/pop album now and give us something to shout about, its been a long time coming.
-
I like the CD and I think it's great that Paul was Number 1 on the Jazz charts for 4 weeks. A great achievement.

A cut and paste job I am afraid, but exciting news nevertheless. Paul McCartney's recent jazz tinged album, Kisses on the Bottom, has achieved new heights for the ex-fab as it has recently been announced as hitting the coverted number one spot in the 'Jazz chart for ex-Beatles' Paul is said to be delighted at reaching the summit and overcoming no competition at all. It is expected that the publicity that this will bring will see increased air play and the select Radio station Love FM have already placed it in continious rotation in their songs containing the words 'Valentine' and 'My' slot. I will try and find the link again and post. Our man is breaking new ground here guys.

'kisses on the bottom' has not been a disaster commercialy but it is not a succsess either..nobody will be getting rich on the huge profits made from it.. i do wish that some of you would stop refering to the 'micky mouse 3rd division ' billboard underground charts in some kind of deluded glowing term of endearment.. paul mccartney [the artist] deserves to be judged on the mainstream genuine charts only...in my eyes. that is where i am so proud of his achievements and history....his amazing triumphs with 'the beatles' and 'wings' ...mainly. paul mccartney is/was a commercial heavyweight/ monster.he should be judged always against the best selling .i believe if you start fawning over his commercial non events as if they are a genuine event then you are indirectly diluting his previous awesomeness in this field.

We should all be able to agree to disagree! Kisses stayed #1 on the Billboard jazz chart for 5 weeks, I think that's fantatstic! Even now it's still at #2! That's no dissappointment in any way!!

Works for me. And it's an accomplishing worth celebrating. Nonetheless, I'm looking forward to the rock/pop album later this year.

Several pages ago, this was the focus of my post. I'd like to re-visit that. "My Valentine" -- a future McCartney-classic -- hit the Top Ten on a Billboard chart. And as a long-time fan, that delights me.

Me too. I wish someone like Adele would cover it on her next album. This song deserves to be covered, and often -- like any other standard.

Would like to hear My Valentine covered, not sure by who though?
