Unfortunately if you read reviews on Amazon or iTunes from the public they are very very mixed and rather than leaving some people wanting more they've just decided Paul has lost it and won't but the next album. I hope I'm wrong!
Well the Amazon reviews of Memory Almost Full are just as divided as the ones for KOTB. Meanwhile, the Amazon reviews for EA are much more uniformly positive and yet it didn't sell anywhere near as well as KOTB or MAF. Makes no sense.
I think that might be because EA wasn't promoted as much as KOTB has been. I'm sure if he would have sung a song from EA at the Grammys it would have sold.

It's amazing Paul Mc. can write classical and ballet music, no matter how they did in the reviews and the charts. It was somewhat exceptional that he mustered the chutzpah to put out "KOTB" given his legendary status and reputation for being a rocker and master of pop song writing, and being in the greatest rock band in the world (many think). His ability to draw legions of eager enraptured concert goers is extraordinary. Even if not in a venue near you, still exciting from afar. He's sitting on one hopes oodles of new songs he's carefully crafted or tossed off the top of his head and then crafted or not even had to work on much, some are so good. He's supposed to let us in on that this year! So yes this is a wonderful time to be a Paul fan (or is that another topic) even if his standards effort is, inevitably, heading south on the charts.

Well I agree it is sad that more people don't know about Chaos or Electric Arguments. But the fact is, he has sold more CDs in the US in the past 5 weeks with KOTB sales (160,000 and counting) than he sold in ALL of 2011 (when he sold only about 144,000 CDs in the U.S.) So yes, KOTB is a big success for Paul -- not if you're comparing it to BOTR, but this isn't 1973. For 2012, and compared to Paul's CD sales from 2011, it's a big success.
Just to throw this out there: Paul didn't release a new album, aside from Ocean's Kingdom, in 2011, and Ocean's Kingdom was released towards the end of the year, so I'm not sure that comparing this new release to last year's sales really backs up your argument...
Besides Ocean's, in 2011, he also released the remastered McCartney and McCartney II to very strong reviews for both. So in 5 weeks, Paul has surpassed his total CD sales for all of 2011 in the U.S. That's all I'm saying.
Oh, okay. I'm looking at original work, because re-releases don't typically sell massive amounts.
in the case of BOTR its been re-released something like 4 0r 5 times now, for the most it would be hardcore fans who would buy it again and again and again lol, considering he only brought out Oceans kingdom last year, 144,000 sales for his back catalogue in the US is good, I would expect a new album by Paul to sell more than combined re-issues, anyways my lurve, once again you've hit the nail on the head with your logic

I'm glad you get me, my lurve. I'll be curious to see after a few more months what KOTB's "final" sales will be in comparison with the last few albums.

considering a few years have lapsed since his last rock/pop album and with CD sales dwindling, I reckon its sales will be on a par with the new album when its finally released, is the day getting closer when people will only be choosing the songs they like from albums making even albums a thing of the past

I'd rather he had a regular album do this well to be honest, I honestly think he'll have lost a chunk of sales for the normal album through this project. He had momentum on his side from all his touring and the fact he hadn't released an album for so long. I think a regular album could have done really well, particularly if it was as good as EA, MAF or Chaos!
I'm hoping that the KOTB album gets folks wanting the rock album even more...
That is precisely why I thought that it was a better strategy to release the standards album first. Plus, Paul -- being a rocker at heart -- might have the itch to rock out soon.
He can't stay away from rock/pop, and that's his bread and butter. And no, the Capital Studios album on iTunes hasn't really generated a lot of buzz. I wonder how it's selling...
Given the confusion and disappointment regarding the deluxe version of the studio album, lots of folks don't seem to be as enthusiastic -- to say the least.
I'm finally getting my REAL deluxe version from my parents this weekend. Damn you, Target and all big box stores!
did you find the deluxe version difficult to get where you are?

To add a bit of context, I just read a story about how Bruce Springsteen's new album -- which got mostly positive reviews -- is No. 1 in the U.S. this week. But it only sold about 200,000 copies. I mean we're talking Bruce Springsteen. In the US. He can pretty much do no wrong here. And yet he barely beat Adele (who sold another 193,000) for the No. 1 spot. And Bruce has been on an absolute PR blitzkreig with his new album -- on the Grammy's, doing a week of Jimmy Fallon, doing a Live at the Apollo concert for Sirius radio, going to SXSW, etc., etc. Just goes to show -- once again -- the death of the CD and the fact that the older legends may be bringing in the audiences for live shows but those same folks aren't buying CDs in large numbers and the younger generations aren't paying much attention to the old guys, they're paying attention to Adele and the other young artists. It's interesting albeit depressing to watch these trends. It means, unfortunately, that Paul can't expect any better sales when his pop/rock album comes out than Springsteen. Of course Bruce is starting a big tour and he actually sings his new songs at his concerts -- -- so he may well build his numbers gradually. But 200,000 seems awfully low given the promotion he's done.

to be fair, ive heard that new springteen song on radio 2 and it makes me wanna vomit. hes still wrapping himself up in the american flag to sell records.very sad indeed. perhaps mccartney isnt that daft after all dabbling in fields in which hes no expert..at least hes trying something different.'springsteen' is rubbish and has always been a rubbish singer...take away the pro american stuff and theres not alot left....'#bon jovi for pensioners.

Agreed. I didn't buy Springsteen's album either because I haven't been a big fan since his Darkness on the Edge of Town days. I like The River, too. But not much since then. Still, he remains huge here, which is why I expected numbers for his first week to be much bigger than this. Literally, he's been promoting the hell out of the record. And yet I just read another story -- I really must stop looking for distractions and do some actual work -- that says he may not have beat Adele to No. 1 after all, that it's too close to call and they're both in the 200,000 range. I really really hope that Paul doesn't try to follow any trend with his next album. I just want him to follow his muse and produce another Ram, or another Chaos, or another EA. You know, no pressure.

I liked him pre "Born in the USA" days, he tries and fails miserably by trying to hard to make every song sound like a anthem, gimmie Born to Run, Dancing in the Dark & Greetings from Ash-bury Park NJ any-day over this latest offering. on a par with Queen, hmmmm maybe, better than Slade....never

i agree the likes of springsteen possibly still sounds okay vocally because he was never that great in the first place....a bit like how 'ugly birds' mainly age better than 'pretty ones'!! part of pauls problem has always been how great a singer HE WAS,how handsom a chap HE WAS ....although i do believe his songwriting skills have not deminished one bit,its just that his willingness to work tirelessly in the studio and release stuff has.

I think Paul has one of those voices which would never age well no matter what he done, ok some may say if he never smoked etc it might have helped, I don't buy into that, Macca was and still is a screamer and had a balladeers voice to die for, look at songs like Oh Darling and Hi Hi Hi to mention a few, i can't think of any other singer who could do those rockers justice. Pauls 1st home was always the studio, lets hope he fires out a good few albums in the coming months, after-all he keeps saying he has piles of new songs waiting to be recorded, he should bin the re-issues for now (we've got them all anyway) until we get this long awaited rock/pop album.

There isn't a Target store within an hour and a half's drive of me, so yes. I could have ordered from Paul's site, but at the time Amazon had the "deluxe" version listed at a cheaper price. We all know how that turned out. :
