And now the time is near....

I'll never stop throwing up at all this unceasing criticism of Paul's singing voice-- it seems so ridiculous, yeah I guess that's why millions flock to his concerts, because he "can't " sing :
-
Yes he can still sing, but a far cry from what he was & the public saw & listend to him struggle & sound rubbish, this & the combination of his poor standing here in the UK has basically finished him off with the casual UK fan & certainly the general public.

Unfortunately that's probably true, although the animosity to him is really nothing new. A lot of the criticism of him in the UK is resentment over things that have nothing to do with his music. People in the UK can't stand his dyed hair. They've been hating on him for that for years. And also, people in the UK were the ones who read endless coverage about his second marriage and subsequent divorce -- and were down on him for ever marrying that woman. Add in his vocal problems at the Jubilee and Olympics and you have a perfect storm. Interestingly, Paul's music has backers in unusual circles. Alternative music sites like The Quietus and even some big music magazines like Q and Mojo magazine championed Paul's McCartney II reissue. Paste Magazine (a hipster online site) gave KOTB a really strong review. Spin Magazine praised Electric Arguments. Pitchfork just championed Ram and wrote positive reviews of both McCartney and McCartney II, and Electric Arguments. Those alternative sites would like to see him doing more of that and performing those solo songs in small venues -- rather than his huge Beatles songfests. The indie music types appreciate some of his solo work quite a bit. So it's really not necessarily "the critics" in the music business who have been hard on him lately. It's the general public in the UK, over superficial things. And the recent performances just made it a lot worse.

The one, televised performance where I feel Paul totally hit the ball out of the park was "My Valentine" at this year's Grammys. I enjoyed the Jubilee set a lot, but a couple of rough moments blemished the event.

I agree the general public have picked on the hair colour etc. for years & gave him a rough time. But in the last few months they have picked up on the musical side of things being below par, which really hasn't happened before, & for the first time in my life I have to agree, things aren't great at the mo. And its not just me, have a friend who's been a fan scince '63 & met the man & even he said things are going down hill ! So if the likes of him are gonna tell it like it is , it's no wonder Joe Public who don't like him have been so vicious .

How quickly they forget... I remember him rocking with Bruce, David and Joe... just forgotten like it didn't happen...

It's all subjective. I know people that didn't like the KOTB itunes special he did & I think that sounded fine...although I don't like the songs...but let's not go there. It is usually but not always when he does these onesy twosy things. He seems to need a bit of a warm up. Of course we all flock to his shows (some more than others) but that too has already been discussed. What is eurphoria when you are there at a show... sometimes sounds a little different listening back at it.

You should stop reading this thread, for your own health and sanity. We wouldn't want you to become dehydrated, hypokalaemia or get a Mallory Weiss tear from all that vomiting!!!

There are a plethora of threads that won't induce vomiting, diarrhea, spontaneous combustion, or other health concerns.

Thank you both for the best laugh of my day. You made me spit out my peanuts!

Sir Elton also hit back at criticism of Sir Paul McCartney for his performance at the Olympics opening ceremony. "It's a crap shoot - you don't have your own sound system, wait five hours backstage," he said. "Paul won't give up, and why should he?", he said.
Cheers, Elton. He's one of the few people to speak up for Paul.
Cheers Elton, indeed! I have a new respect for him now.
as do I now too. (but then, I've liked Elton since I was about 9 or 10. I even had a poster of him before I had one of John and Paul.

I'm just glad I wasn't eating or drinking anything, because I am "spontaneous combustion"

I do wish people would stop confusing the press with the public. Personally to my face I have heard very few remarks about his singing at the knees up and the complete waste of money, apart from blessed mother and i pointed out to her the last singer she saw was Ken Dodd three year ago.
-
I think Paul will still come back bigger and stronger after the Jubilee and Olympic concerts, let the dust settle , have a break and then back to some live shows with a newish setlist!

Didn't Paul mention Ken Dodd in that Wings 1979 video?

I'm glad to know that Paul has been supported by Elton Jones, he more than others knows how the business is... [/code]

Sigh. You really don't want to do a search on 'McCartney' on Twitter after they did a re-run of the Jools Holland 'Golden Moments' show from 2010, which closed with... McCartney. Painful combination in the UK at the moment. Ah, sod them, history will make it right in 50 years.

I don't understand the ridiculous level of hate, the Jools performance was good! This summer has simply destroyed Paul's already shot reputation in the UK. I don't care if people want to deny it, the general perception is extraordinarily negative. Even a good performance or a non-Beatles song gets slagged.
