And now the time is near....

Olly, Slack Mac is right (and that's not something you hear people saying very often... )....there are cheap flights to that there Larn-dern. Getting a good vocal coach is right, but there are plenty of excellent vocal coaches in London. Cripes, if someone can teach Phil-up Schofield to play Joseph in ALW's West End claptrap all those years ago then anything is possible......

That wasnt a vocal coach that got Phil to sing it was a miracle worker

God, I seriously worry about Paul's set up at times. It's like the final days of a lot of great performers and athletes who in their doteage hang on the bleatings of the hangers-on whose only interest is keeping the golden goose laying those big shiney eggs. It's like when Paul goes on about not wanting to do a vocal warm-up backstage before a concert coz he feels self-conscious.... : .....a bit better to feel self conscious back stage in front of a your crew and a few assorted guests paying homage to the master than struggling and going butt over boob in front of one billion peole don't you think! It's not difficult to find a vocal coach in that there London.....just pick up theatrical newspaper The Stage.....you'll find them in the ad's section near the back.
Agreed. I made the point in a different thread on this topic that Paul always sounds better in the last 1/2 of a concert than during the first 1/2, and I chalk most of that up to him being warmed up in that last 1/2. Many reviews of his concerts say the same.

Noooooooooooooooooooooo Mitch - you've totally misunderstood what I was suggesting, Olly could apply to be Macca's vocal coach !!
-
It's daft ain't it.... : .....doesn't want people to hear him warming up coz he's the great Paul Mc and a former Beatle (and it ain't Rock and Roll of course!)....but then he goes on stage and can't hit his notes and comes across as a past-it singer and complete tata.....when he could with proper management of his voice go on singing stuff live for years yet. No need for a scalpel just a few vocal warm up routines. Surely an excellent coach could construct some exercises involving Beatle songs, perhaps he'd feel less self conscious then.
-
But surely Mac dahling, if Olly taught Paul some vocal exercises there's a possibility that Paul will end sounding like Julia Double-glaze-your-arse!

it can't get much worse, I say he goes for it

Gawd, can you imagine if all of a sudden Macca started singing all Latin-American-like...the women on here already flood when his name is mentioned never mind when they see him perform live or wiggle his butt.....they'd be going down hither and thither like bloody skittles.....

Finding a vocal coach is very easy, finding a good "vocal coach" is very very difficult. Most of them will spoil your voice (and your money), they're kind of "vocal cheerleaders" like: "C'mon!, you can make it! give it more support, sing from the diafragm..." "Give it more support" and "sing from the diafragm" are 2 signs you must run like hell... Think that anyone can announce himself as "vocal coach"... you can make it too, anyone... Quite disgusting. Seth Riggs is good, he charges like 6000 $ an hour. http://www.sethriggs.com/
Olly - this could be you're calling
how?

the irony of all this is this if Paul got more technical, got a great coach or so... Then many of you won't like it. You'll miss the old Paul with all his technical imperfections, you'll miss the raw stuff... The "smoking singer voice" he says... He's damned if he does, damned if he doesn't. You can't please everyone.

Olly - its a no contest my friend - you are the chosen one, I have every faith in you, you're perfect for this job. Not only will you restore what was, you will also be what is until Macca is what will be again, fear not oh mighty saviour of the voice, its not as complicated as it sounds, all you have to do is watch "Singing in the Rain" I want you to study Debbie Reynolds, watch how she stands behind the curtain singing while her breath doesn't make a ripple on the material - I think you get the jist - YOU are going to be Paul's voice as well as his vocal coach - many years from now people will still be debating if the walrus was Paul, many more will be discussing Oliver Sanz "The Man Behind The Curtain"

Yes, tomorrow morning. But, well, there is some William Campbell somewhere, one that looks like Paul sings like Paul, they will notice the difference if I was the substitute... I can't play acoustic guitar chords, for a start!. I guess Paul would have to teach me that in return And the dooooh

Hey, besides the joking, I guess Paul would do that someday, put some singers to sing their songs, I guess when he is 100 (he plans to get to "three digits age") he will need some rest in a 3 hour show... Who does that? Brian Wilson does it, I think.

I would love to see him bring in some (female) backing singers.
-
I don't like the female backup singers....it makes me think of Vegas acts. I've seen Neil Diamond, Rod Stewart, and Bob Seger all do it live...and it looks very dated.
-
I think any future Paul gig would suit additonal musicians/backing singers, would make it a bit more diverse.
-
One of the things that always impressed me about Paul's show, was that it didn't take glitz and glamour to make it entertaining. When I left Neil Diamond concert, I felt like he put on a good show, he was a good entertainer...well, so does a circus clown. When I leave a Paul McCartney concert, I feel changed. A new wind has gone through me because of this man and his music. I leave appreciating the song selections, the display and arrangement of them, the visuals to enhance the experience, and the conciseness of his musicians. He makes as much happen between 5 people as Neil Diamond did with 15. In my opinion, less is more.
