I've moved this topic into the Not Such A Bad Boy forum to form a more lasting acknowledgement of this new album release. The release is featured on the main site with a promotional blog entry now: Click Here to visit the Blog entry There have been premature whispers about this circulating for a while and, of course, fans have been keen to share the news on the message board, so many thanks to all those who cooperated by waiting patiently for the official announcement before offering their opinions. Can't wait to The Shin's version of Wonderful Christmastime. They're a modern band that I actually like.

My children LOVE Wonderful Christmastime, without question, their favorite Christmas song. Although obviously partial to Paul's recording of the song, my triplets genuinely like the Shins version of Wonderful Christmastime and are happy to see this version included in the compilation. My Christmas favorite has always been The Christmas Song. Hearing Paul's version of this song for the first time was poignantly moving for me, and a lovely moment in time for our family as we listened together. We LOVE that Paul has changed the line: "Everybody knows a turkey and some mistletoe" to "Everybody knows some holly and some mistletoe" Absolutely Brilliant!!! A beautiful song, recorded by a beautiful person - LOVE it!!!

Yes, American... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Shins http://www.theshins.com/home

I'm American and I've never heard of them.

Me neither. but it's about time Macca did another Christmas song. He seems to love them.

I've heard of The Shins. Their name often appears in the alternative newsweekly in my city. And I've seen them on a concert festival or two. If indie-rock is your thing, you might like them.
-
The Shins have made some great songs, i.e. "Saint Simon" and "Simple Song".
-
My brother and I joke alot about the lead singer of The Shins looking like Kevin Spacey. But their music is exceptional compared to some of the crap congesting the radiowaves nowadays. If anyone on that album is worthy of covering a macca song, it's The Shins. But there are a few modern bands that I would rather hear a macca cover from.

Still, very popular in Europe. One of the most well-known 'indie' acts.

Genius group who have been around for a bit--if anyone leans in the indie or alternative direction, their albums are worth picking up.

This is just about my fave secular Chrissy song It shall be heart warming to hear Paul Mc. sing this I had a dream about seeing Paul in concert the other night. Linda was playing electronic keyboards! Looked like they were in a very large gym (as if Wings would play in such--actually Wings did, though, didn't they, right at their beginning!). I was sitting rather far off and Paul's visage only a blur 'cause I didn't use my glasses or contact lens ("smart" of me). Suddenly he launched into an old timey K.O.T.B. type tune, and the high flying mood of the crowd plunged noticeably (sorry, Paul, but 'twas just a dream)--however Linda plinked out a charming run of notes to accompany the old chestnut and I beamed favorably in her direction. Her long shaggy blonde hair gleamed. She wore her famed cool deadpan expression as she played.

Party pooper. I like the Shins' cover and I think Paul's version of the Christmas song sounds cozy and warm and exactly as it should sound. Lovely.

Haha just my opinion! The Christmas Song is my favourite festive song but nothing can warm my soul like Nat's voice singing it. Michael Buble did a nice version though!!

I was just reading an article that said the Shins' version sounds a bit like the Beach Boys. ... Agree or no? As for Buble, I liked him at first but now I think all his stuff sounds a bit ... soulless and generic. But then, as I've already harped on enough here, I enjoy Paul's KOTB voice and the sound of this jazzy style track.

Is this CD going to be released only in the US? I see it on Amazon UK listed as an import: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Holidays-Rule-Various-Artists/dp/B009A9EKGM/
