The bass throughout the live album and film sound better than Wings ever sounded in the studio. And this is the reason for those threads about the Rickenbacker!
-
Wings Over America is still on the Billboard 200. It's gone from No. 22 to No. 71 last week and is now at No. 86 this week. That's good for a reissue.

Just saw the British Official Charts: Wings Over America is No. 36! Here's how the WOA chart position compares to the chart positions on the UK charts of Paul's other reissues. Band on the Run Reissue charted the highest: No. 17. Ram: No. 41 McCartney: No. 88 McCartney II: No. 108 Here's how Paul's previous reissues did on the Billboard 200: Band on the Run: No. 29 Ram: No. 24 McCartney: No. 50 McCartney II: No. 82
Wings Over America is No. 22 on Billboard this week!
VeryVery cool!
yup paul still has it
*When you consider the remastered WOA has next to "no" promotion/publicity, hitting in at #22 is very good. Stopping at my local convenience store every morning for coffee, I always check the New York/Philadelphia newpapers and the national papers (i.e. USA Today and Wall Street Journal). I haven't seen any article/review on WOA. I would think that USA Today might still run a prominent article about Paul at some point (pop-rock critic, Edna Gunderson) tying his tour and the WOA Rerelease. Maybe the fact that he is appearing in Brooklyn this weekend, might generate some publicity. Maybe WOA might have "legs" over the next few weeks also with the release of the Rockshow DVD. Since Rockshow is so good, it might cause additonal CD Sales especially considering that WOA is only $14.99 Hopefully, the younger generations (born in the 70's and beyond) will hear WOA or see Rockshow and get into one of the greatest live albums/concerts ever.
I'm not sure where you get the "next to no promotion" idea. If you search Google News for the phrase "Wings Over America" you get over 1,600 hits. And rumor has it that he's touring and playing a few tunes from this album. Touring absolutely helps boost Paul's album sales when he tours with an album to promote, and this tour it's WOA.
Bruce, I'm was speaking more of the traditional "print" publicity and promotion. I haven't seen much, if anything, on WOA through the normal Print media. Conversely, every magazine/newspaper I see has articles, reviews on John Fogerty's new CD with other artists (mainly country) dueting on his famous songs. I guess it has to do with the fact that "reissues" don't warrant reviews from the traditional channels. Fogerty's album has garnered articles/reviews in USA Today, People, Parade, all the local newpapers where I live (Philly and NY) and many others I'm sure. Maybe Paul's people have it right and the way you market/sell music today (CD's and DVD's) is 90% through the Internet anyway. HItting #22 for a remaster is pretty darn good. Just a little surprised that one of the best "live CD's" off all time being remastered and it is Macca is not getting more of a newpaper/national magazines etc. buzz. And your right, the fact that Paul is touring is helping the sales of WOA on its own.
And of course the promotion continues. Apparently Paulie did a small-scale U.S. TV gig Weds. night.
I'm sure most American fans saw his Colbert appearance, but for those who haven't, here's a link to the full episode. Includes interview, band performances, and Colbert's usual comedic segments. Apparently, this was edited out of order, since you clearly see that the NYC bike story is where Paul gets the word "begrimed"! http://www.colbertnation.com/full-episodes/wed-june-12-2013-paul-mccartney

I finally got EVERYTHING! VERY pleased with The Deluxe Box. However, they should have just left out that Ocean View book...probably would've brought the price closer to $100. Vinyl is superb as is Rockshow, but I am experiencing that "disappearing bass" issue like many others. I bought all of these at my local record store, and while it cost $25 more in the end, I was very happy to support them over Amazon.

Wings Over America is STILL on the Billboard 200. It's at No. 122 on the charts this week. That is amazing for a reissue.

I've read dozens of reports on amazon and the Steve Hoffman forum - http://forums.stevehoffman.tv/threads/bass-drop-outs-on-dvd-and-bluray-of-wings-rockshow-what-to-do.321070/ - about several manufacturing issues with the audio of both the dvd and bluray. Any comments from those who listened to the whole thing carefully?
-
side by side comparison:
It states: Published on Jun 27, 2013 Here we have the new Blu-ray of Rockshow side by side with a version from the McCartney Years DVD. The images and sounds are very different. I like the resolution of the Blu-ray, but the McCartney Years has much better audio( background vocals) and actually sounds like you are at a Wings concert. Please note: when the picture is highlighted, that is the souce of the audio. Bass drop-outs: two good examples of the defective audio on the Blu-ray, check out 4:09 and 4:23. There are many, but this should give you an example. -

That's what I'm talking about! The mix might be crap done by an incompetent sound engineer, that happens often. But the bass dropouts are inexcusable lack of Quality Control. Now I'd like to know if Eagle Rock will fix the problem by releasing corrected discs.

Well according to the following post from the Steve Hoffmann music forums (where the sound quality obsessives hang out) the problem may not be an issue of "quality control" at all. Here's what a post there said: Don't shoot this messenger but I'm going to pass along some comments from an online Beatles fanzine (The 910). You can choose to believe it or not. The reviewer says he listened to the laserdisc with headphones and that the same bass frequency anomalies existed but that they were buried in the sludge of the mix at that time. He also states that the so-called dropouts are based on specific notes on the bass guitars, particularly the D string, 4th fret (F#). If you believe this, maybe it is not a manufacturing defect at all, but simply an issue with the on stage bass ampliflication. In other words, this is cleaned up and more faithful to the original but there were bass amplification problems on stage that weren't as noticeable in a muddier mix.

Really? I've always though most of Rockshow was re-recorded in the studio as was Over America to fix all imperfections. So the question now is: How come The McCartney Years portion that includes Rockshow tracks have perfect 5.1 sound and the bass sounds is flawless? Fron the SH forum: Just to be on the same page, I don't think anyone is saying there is zero bass. You can still hear it playing from the front speakers, but the bass drops out of the sub no matter where on the neck Paul, Denny or Jimmy are playing. The sound coming through my system sounds incredible when it's firing on all cylinders. I was hearing things that I've never heard before, but I noticed almost right away that the bass periodically stops coming out of the sub.. The first time I heard it, I actually rewound the blu-ray a few seconds to see if Paul stopped playing, because I didn't recall ever hearing that before.. That's how noticeable it was. Then, it kept happening. again and again... I popped in The McCartney Years dvd, and that had no issues at all. Bass was pumping out of the sub without fail.

Maybe they overdubbed the bass for The McCartney Years. All I know is the reviewer who listened to the laserdisc said he heard the same thing but it was covered up by a muddier mix. I'm no expert. Just thought people would be interested in the multiple theories people are discussing. Personally, my blu-ray of Rockshow sounds fantastic. No complaints here.

Boy, I'm glad I don't have the decerning hearing some of you have--it would drive me bonkers! I can't tell anything is wrong with the bass at 4:09 and 4:23 in that video.
-
I've read it is most noticeable during Band On The Run. And of course you have to select the DTS audio option and listen through your 5.1 home theater.

I have the DVD and selected the 5.1 from the audio options. I had zero problems. In fact, the bass sounded great and shook the house I did notice some sloppy bass playing from Denny and Jimmy. But the bass on Band on the Run was great. No issues for me

Suddenly, the deluxe WOA box is on sale at Amazon for $108.99. Not sure how long it will last, but this is the cheapest I can remember it being since it was briefly below $100 as a pre-sale. So I finally bought it! http://www.amazon.com/Wings-Over-America-Deluxe-McCartney/dp/B00C8985DU/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1384017654&sr=1-1&keywords=wings+over+america+deluxe

Wix, I read somewhere one of the books in the WOA deluxe edition has a photo of the stage at each venue. Is that true?
