Mine came today too. Haven't had time to inspect it, but can't wait! Will bring back great memories of May 1976 seeing Paul in concert for the first time and being the best age--21!!
I thought you were 21 now!
I wish, Javi, I wish!

oh yeah! Mine just arrived!!! Venus & Mars/Rockshow...YES! This is how Paul should have opened the show. (I know about the Kittay factor) but OMG COOL. Long hair at Madison Square...oh yeah.....lovin those satin pants!
What do you mean by this? Just curious
She's referring to the myth that Mademoiselle Kitty is Linda...but I don't believe that.
Why not, may I ask?

PDS:
Am not sure that is an 'official' list - looks more like a wish list. And there is no way they can release 40 albums by 2016
I agree!

I always took that portion of the song as Paul mocking the heavy metal arena rockers of the time and their erroneous groupies...ala Mademoiselle Kitty....sounds a bit...uhh "prostitute-ish" to me.

I thought we proved that list to be crap years ago...

Personally, I was glad to discover Best Buy had an 'exclusive' three CD (with the Cow Palace bonus CD) version available and on sale for $14.99...I will eventually spend the $100+ dollars for the deluxe version (so far Ram is the only one I splurged for the deluxe), but wanted to wait it out to see if I can grab it on sale...as for now, the only thing I don't have that I would like from the full deluxe version is the Wings/World DVD
My exact thoughts and exactly what I did too! By the way - you can YouTube that special AND in its original pitch!
-
I was hoping that they'd all get remastered and re-released, provided they keep selling in quantities that allow their production I can't see much reason as to why they wouldn't. With London Town, Press To Play and Flowers In The Dirt at the top of my wanted list. But I'd prefer his new songs on a new album before any of that. Sounds great too though. I was a bit off with the packaging being a bit on the slim side compared to the last 3 releases but it's not so important. You Gave Me The Answer is so twee I love it.
-
I really enjoyed the third disc, my favorite was the version of bluebird, to me even better than the wings over America version. all in all very pleased with the remaster, now I really can't wait for rockshow blu ray lol.

Okay, Got the standard edition yesterday and listened to the whole thing non stop. Very first impression, Wings were a powerhouse band live, they were at their absolute peak and this remaster really showcases that. McCartney's bass is just thunderous, the way it should be on every one of his albums. A complaint I've always had is that McCartney's bass always sounds too far back in the mix, I want it up front and in your face, after all this is one of the premiere bassist so he should be heard very distinctly. The Rick is the absolute best bass for McCartney the Hofner though more Iconic always sounds muffled to me, doesn't have that thump like the Rick. I already had the Capitol CDs of this album so I played some of those first so I could compare the sound, right away I noticed that the remaster is louder, sharper, clearer with a more dynamic range. One thing I really like is that you can hear the crowds delight better. You really hear them react when the guitar riff of Let Me Roll It hits. The performances just thrilled the crowds. The performances are just awesome, I have a whole new respect for songs like Spirits Of Ancient Egypt and Medicine Jar, I mean Wings are just rocking out on these songs. I know most people talk about Maybe I'm Amazed but for me Call Me Back Again and Beware My Love are the vocal performances to hear, McCartney is one of the absolute greatest singers. This album clearly shows that he is a premiere rock shouter. Joe English on the drums is just excellent, without a doubt he is the best drummer McCartney ever had. I actually heard rolls and fills I never noticed before. I also noticed that you can really hear when he hits the cymbals, the crashes really help highlight the songs. I've stated many times that WOA is my very fave McCartney album, with this absolutely fantastic remaster It's my fave all over again. Oh I have to mention Hi Hi Hi and Soily, how can anyone say Wings were lightweight and soft if they listen to these songs, they just come blasting out of the speakers! Their performance of Hi Hi Hi is just a scorching smoking hard rocker, one of McCartney absolute best rockers. I am just thrilled with this remaster, this album has never ever sounded better! Now for the Rockshow blu-ray.

But the pause in between the tracks ruined it for me.

Just got the newly remastered Wings Over America album which is good but not my fave Paul live album but got for collective reasons. After a play in car on my way to work I notice a gap between each track. This isn't great to listen too as it is a live show with an audience and surely Abbey Rd staff could've filled in with audience atmosphere like 'Back in the World' album. A little disappointed. I'll check my original cds of this album for any similar issues. Cheers all. Jim
My copy of WOA is the same as my 70s vinyl and doesn't have gaps. The live tracks on the bonus disc does and that is probably due to their departing from the sequence in the concert.
-
I notice 'Tripping The Live Fantastic' & 'Back In The World' cds run without breaks, why not this remastered Wings cd? A little puzzled & disappointed. Won't be reaching too often to play.
-
OK, I don't like Time to Hide. Mediocre song, mediocre singing by Denny (?) -- especially coming after the gorgeous lilting rendition of Let 'Em In. I could just imagine the whole stadium lighting up a fat one during Let 'Em In, so maybe they didn't notice that Time to Hide is kinda meh. I absolutely love the whole acoustic portion of the WOA show, from Picasso's Last Words through Yesterday. It's like a folk show within a rock show. Great.
-
Everybody elses Wings Over America got breaks between tracks?

Nope. Or if there are, I didn't notice them.
-
The main question would be: Why only 8 songs and not the complete, unedited concert as bonus? I mean, at 140 bucks retail it wouln't have changed much the production costs.
-
FYI, The WOA reissue is at No. 34 on iTunes (which surprised me). The standard edition is at No. 14 on Amazon, and the deluxe set is No. 47 on Amazon ( -- given the price). I think it's also selling fairly well at Best Buy. I wonder if the reissue will chart on the Billboard 200 next week? I think it will. It won't chart high (few reissues do). But there's a good chance it'll get in the top 100 albums, I think.

PDS:
I must admit I had assumed / hoped it would be all the albums that got the Archive treatment - in The Paul McCartney Archive Collection - including Wings and solo albums...
Just a guess, but I think all his albums had gone out of print up to the Hear Music release of Memory Almost Full and after. Because he did not have a label, all of his albums are due for some sort of reissue, either Archive or Deluxe or a Standard release. Probably take a few years.

Try listening to it on a different stereo system. I have a little boom box that always does that on live recordings. THIS I did not listen to on that little thing...full out cranking bose system. oh yeah. it was fine there.

Nice review. I agree with you 100%.
